Who really gives a damn! Coming out with another luxury model is just another way that Apple fanboys will over pay for the tech! How ridiculous!

As someone who thought my mac trackpad WAS a physical button until I learned otherwise, I’m pretty confident Apple will nail this and deliver a phone that’s even more sealed and durable. Fingers crossed.

I try to see the positive. My glass is ½ full.
I don’t see an issue with the buttons or lack of buttons. If the change helps with dust/water resistance then why would anybody complain? Tech evolves and this is another example.

Apple should have learned from Volkswagens mistake with the new 2022 Golf models. Capacitive buttons are trash. Physical and tactile feedback is better.

Remember when people made the argument that the iPhone was going to flop because of no tactile feedback, and that’s why the button based android phones would win. Well…

I’m nervous for Apple too for their bold move to eliminate the regular button for a haptic touch buttons. They probably might make provisions for a similar long press reset feature on the haptic buttons. Who really knows we just have to wait and see.

  23. Sid

    March 17, 2023 at 8:33 pm

I’m not nervous. Apple is the king when it comes to haptic feedback. Actually with no buttons, it would add durability and longevity to the phone

I think apple just decided things without asking consumers what’s best. Physical buttons are always the best way to control volume in my opinion, and I won’t get any more iPhone in the future for sure

No buttons makes me worry about repair ability. Its would be easier and cheaper to replace a button, but at this point just opening a phone is a challenge. I can’t be the only one that misses being able to buy a new phone battery and keyboard on Amazon for an old black berry and having a new phone for like $40.

Apple is looking to make the very best phone out there. Only problem is: they already can, they just won’t. They’ll slowly introduce “new” features so consumers keep buying every year. How else are they going to make money if the best product they make is already out there.

It could just be 1 button instead of 2 separate smaller buttons for up and down. The top side of the 1 button would be up and bottom side would be down. Similar to how some androids have their volume button

Personally I think the switch to remove the buttons is cool but does it really have any real world value? Probably not but that’s apple for you. Remember the pressure sensitive display? As Pointless as it was!

I passed on the iPhone 14 for a 13 pro when Apple removed the sim card tray. If these button changes occur then this will be a wait and see move for me. Kinda has me looking Android phones again 🤔.

How will the power button work if your iphone is turned off so there is no power to the taptic engine?

    🤔

    • jon Sprog

      March 20, 2023 at 6:49 am

@Carl Gunderson on the 7, 8, SE2/3 it was the home button and not the power button.
the solid-state button needs power to run? so how will it work on the power button if your phone is off

    • Carl Gunderson

      March 20, 2023 at 8:06 am

@jon Sprog Well, how are you able to turn on your current device after you fully shut it down then? Don’t you need power, in order to turn on the phone with an already existing-power button? It’ll work the sameway as the physical power button works now. The functionallity doesn’t change. The only thing that changes is the physical power button to a solid-state one…

    • Carl Gunderson

      March 20, 2023 at 8:16 am

@jon Sprog Riddle me this; If you’re So WoRrY about how the power will work to turn on the phone from shutdown mode. Then, why don’t you have the same concern with the current method with the physical power button? Is it because you know how it works with a physical button or do you just assume how it works with a physical button?

Because, in terms of functionallity. Nothing is different from a solid-state button and a physical button. What makes the physical and or solid-state button work is done by software anyways.

    • jon Sprog

      March 20, 2023 at 9:06 am

@Carl Gundersonon the 7, 8, SE2/3? by pressing the power button, wich dont need power to work before you press it.
Have you ever touch a solid-state button when your phone is off, its just a glass plate, it dont move, because it needs the power to operate.
So for the power button to work the sensor needs power to function before you press it.

    • jon Sprog

      March 20, 2023 at 9:10 am

      @Carl Gunderson well i’m not worry 😀
Just really curious how that tech would work.
i’m still rocking a SE with solidstate, and i dont have a problem with it

No buttons, chances are it will improve underwater capacity. Lower production cost and a higher retail price because it a big new feature = BIG profits $$.

  59. James M

    March 19, 2023 at 2:19 am

I am particularly worried about there possibly no longer being a way to reset if things go wrong or get locked up. I think it is a real question do they have a solution or are they just choosing to ignore the loss of those options.

    • Marc Louie Mancilla

      March 20, 2023 at 9:33 am

I think they will also change the way the buttons are powered. It will be independent of the main OS. As long as it is plugged-in or has battery left (reserved power atleast), the buttons will function.
