The Wheat Field That Could Change the World | Guntur V. Subbarao | TED
Crop physiologist Guntur V. Subbarao and his team have developed an antibiotic-infused strain of wheat that naturally combats harmful, fertilizer-eating bacteria — a “monster” contributor to climate change. Learn more about how this breakthrough could once again revolutionize agriculture, increasing crop yields and protecting our planet at the same time. If you love watching TED…

Monsanto wheat?

it’s no longer monsanto; they were sold to a german pharmacuetical company so people would stop associating their products with all the problems they cause. Look up a doc called “Bayer and the Bees”.(Im probly spelling Bayer wrong)

No to GMO.

Unless what you eat is an heirloom plant then you are eating a genetically modified veggies or fruit. If not for these modifications most people in the developing world would have died. Borlin (sp?) Saved many by developing dwarf wheat. I’m more interested in the fertilizer.

@Ruth Gallagher No to genetically modified organisms, no gm crops nor anything else genetically modified. People in the developing can easily be fed. You know how? The developed world simply has to stop the overconsumption and stop throwing away food. Problem solved. We in the developed world consume produce and throw away so much food, it’s embarrassing. And then people like you and these big companies like Monsanto come up with the genius idea that only genetically modified bs can save the world from starvation. Stop food overconsumption and we can feed the entire world without problems.

GMO is simply a tool to alter food traits. Whether it is used to make healthy food or not is up to the user.
ƚΞIϽıịıCIΞƚ
December 15, 2022 at 5:33 am
@Will Wunsche The tool is the modification or manipulation/alteration of the genetic information of an organizm. GMO is the product.
ƚΞIϽıịıCIΞƚ
December 15, 2022 at 5:47 am
@Will Wunsche And there is no need to genetically alter organisms. The western civilization could simply change the way they live. Overconsumerism and throwing millions of tons of food away could solve the problem of feeding the world. But I understand why you are supporting projects and technologies like genetic engineering. You (by you I don’t necessarily mean you personally) would support anything in order to stop climate change without even having a short consideration about the dangers and repercussions of genetic engineering and what harm it could cause for the environment and us humans. But I already know the answer to that, too. Even if it would turn out to be harmful for us humans, we are too many people on this planet anyways, am I right?! My response is, as I mentioned before, not necessarily meant for you personally.

I’m more concerned as to why wheat is in everything?? And – as it turns out – many people are pretty intolerant of it and don’t even realise it?
J. Ewing
December 15, 2022 at 12:51 am
Exactly!
Brett
December 15, 2022 at 1:33 am
It turns out that wheat intolerance is due to a lack of attention to a person from their friends. Having a medical issue makes the person deserve more attention.
J. Ewing
December 15, 2022 at 3:10 am
@Brett this belief is a result of following the masses. Who don’t usually listen to their own bodies. If you are actually a man of science then you could do research and actually educate yourself on how wheat is actually difficult for the human body to process. But I’m sure you’d much rather prefer living a life of blissful ignorance where you can eat anything you want because facts and research do not matter to you because you’re a big boy and doing research is so hard 😂🤣

Return the land to grass and give it back to the cattle. Take it away from the companies that have spent forty years poisoning it. Monsanto and Bayer. They’re killing us and the locked up animals.

The animals made the soil and chemicals are destroying it. It’s being washing into the fivers and oceans; poisoning everything on it’s way.

Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor that’s a secret they keep among themselves and they kept on investing without stopping while some poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them.

Thank you.
Does the BNI crop produce seeds to remain as a natural plant? at the beginning I thought this was a Monsanto type man manipulated version of a crop which if you know Monsanto that only leads to bigger implications for humans and for nature.

Muhammad Qasim’s dreams are a warning to the Muslim ummah. As they are coming true, many across the world are talking about them, and newspapers and interviews are also being conducted on these dreams. Muhammad Qasim Dreams

i had a small hope this was about the fields in Türkiye where they grow 6-7000 year old sumerian wheat. It looks amazing. Like sci fi. Like the giant wheat from the alien movie. Its naturally gluten reduced. Almost three times the industrial yield.. amazing but no english coverage.

A few aspects of this talk made me very skeptical, but after searching a bit I think that this is solid science. A few things were skipped for the short format of TED, I guess.
However, what worries me is how the industrial use of this idea might lead to even more bad ecological and social consequences.
To me this is more like a band-aid that ultimately should be replaced by an agricultural system that works with the soil instead of against it.

Unfortunately many will fall for it
Others will be forced to deal with it
Such as Monsanto/Bayer
