The United States is on track to win the AI race — and hollow itself out in the process, says Gina Raimondo, former Governor of Rhode Island and US Secretary of Commerce. In this unflinching look at the threat of AI-induced economic disruption and social unrest, she offers a concrete blueprint to prepare workers for what’s coming next. “AI is a 100-year technology and needs a 100-year response,” she says. Is America up to the challenge?

How about we defund Capitalism? Never was a good economic system. The single greatest tyrannical system ever created by human beings.

It’s not the best, but what is your alternative? If you advocate getting rid of something, you have to equally be in favor of a type of replacement.

A job doesn’t give me purpose. A job doesn’t give me dignity. A job gives me enough money so I can sustain life and do the things I want. I’d be more than content with just rescuing animals, making bird houses and watching movies until I die. Lots of Communists and Capitalists think that having a job is the only motivation in life, How sad.

Absolutely agreed. Artists and the like wondering what they’ll do after AI takes over not realising they can continue to do art.

TED is just brazenly capitalist class propaganda now, with weak “humanist” branding. “Civic minded capitalist,” and it’s just rehashed neoliberalism.

What jobs is she talking about purpose, dignity, and pride? I’ve yet to find a job that doesn’t remind you you’re replaceable, you’re free time isn’t respected, you have to be accountable but when it comes to higher ups that’s not our place, and don’t get me started on HR/OSHA violations in the name of reaching quotas that only really rewards the managers while we get a meal party.

No, I study to get a job to earn money; it’s all about the paycheck.

The wealthy do not care. It’s “their money” and people cost them profit.

Yeah,no ,work isn’t purpose, work isn’t dignity. Work is a means to an end. You have to work to live a comfortable life. Purpose is family, other people, yourself, your pets, your hobbies, purpose is life outside of work. As someone who uses AI frequently in my day to day corporations are putting far too much stock in it by eliminating headcount, frankly they are using it as more of an excuse in order to fool stockholders.

Universal Basic Income represents the only viable short-term remedy. While education is vital for the next generation, dismissing UBI through the ‘dignity’ argument is a detachment from reality that undermines the search for a functional solution.
