I have several friends that jump from one subject to another and if I don’t butt in with my thoughts, I never get the chance to share. Once I do get the chance to speak, I would have to go back and go through 5 different subjects. Which I don’t, of course. It’s too exhausting….

What an interesting topic. I think that “engaging” is a normal conversation, the other is taking turns to give your speech, zero interaction. I find it is a huge cultural diference between countries I have lived in. To some is the normal, for others feels rude. It is difficult when you grew up with one culture but live in the other.
