I was a freelancer for 2 years. I was a student at the time, and i also live in russia, art is realy cheap here, thats why most of the artists and disainers try to find customers from other countryes. I used to draw avatars and stikers for whats up and telegram for so cheap. Like 5-7 dollars for 1 stiker(and it was a full drawing, not a photostiker)
I realy want to try and be freelancer again, but make normal money)

It’s so stupid that we literally have to survive in Russia because of some bad people (I’m talking about the government, if anyone doesn’t know)

Why are “intelligent” young people so opposed to capitalism? It’s the name leftists have given to the FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM. Be grateful you still live in a world (for now) where you get to be a freelancer and work for yourself!!!

    • Madeleine Johansson

      November 2, 2020 at 12:58 pm

We young people are so opposed to capitalism because it’s a system based on infinte growth on a planet with finite recources. In this capitalist society young people are getting burnt out before they even turn 30 because capitalism has told us we can’t be succesfull if we’re not working 24/7. Capitalism is using up the planet’s resources at an alarming rate leaving us with dying planet. Capitalism is literally destorying people’s mental and physical health as well as the planet we live on. That is why we are so opposed to it.

    • Mitch L.

      November 2, 2020 at 1:52 pm

@Madeleine Johansson Then what is the alternative to capitalism? In my old-fashioned view, capitalism is based on freedom — the free exchange of goods and services. Any other system will demand that the “experts” show us the way. That will not work out well for humanity in my opinion………

  17. John Karavitis

    November 2, 2020 at 2:08 pm

0:36 Perfect example of how she not only doesn’t like capitalism, but she doesn’t understand what it means. Your work product, creative or not, is “worth” what someone in the marketplace is willing to pay for it. If you’re “underpaid,” then you aren’t offering what employers/customers want. Oh, and by the way, you do NOT pronounce the letter “t” in the word “often.”

She still dislikes capitalism even though she finally figured out that her lack of practical knowledge was her real problem, and now she has a successful bookkeeping business. Hey, try being a creative freelancer or entrepreneur in Venezuela or Cuba. See how well socialism works. And Sweden and Denmark are NOT socialist nations.

I guess I was expecting more than 101 advice when I watched this. Not sure I walked away with new information but all the speaker said was great advice for starters. Being confident enough to stick to a price that was fair to me was one of the hardest things for me to put boundaries on. You want to make that sale! But not everyone is your customer. I’m not even my own customer but that’s okay! If people get uppity for a deal, ask them if they’d accept less money on their regular take home just because their boss asked nicely.

That final statement is the essence: stop doing work out of fear of not having any, and jumping through a (wrong) clients hoops, and start taking on (by choice) jobs where you can actually add value, and with clients that are willing to pay you the right price for it.
