I try to support human checkers, but the self-serve gets more and more enticing. No way to no-pay, prices are frequently set wrong in the computer “accidentally”.
Sonic or microwave weapons for shoplifters? Maybe Taylor Swift sonic weapon?

Already see a flaw. Bring a bottle of water and trade for a yummy drink of the same weight.

Can’t help but think of the lyrics to “21st century life” by Sam Sparro,
“I watched the news on my computer screen
Talking about buying my weed out of a vending machine
You tell me I’m free but how can it be
When you’re always watching me on the CCTV”

So rather than pay a living wage, invest in robots.

So if technology is replacing human paid jobs then humans would not know how to make money to buy these, so these robots will be less utilized? Tech replacing humans is good but consumer is humans , not robots
    … shopping for thought.

That’s nuts. Scannable nuts. Without a bar code. But still nuts. Still need a team of security guards to rugby tackle you through the window for forgetting to pay for those nuts though.

“retail are trying to find solutions to the labor shortage”

Lets not fool ourselves, we all know the solution but corporate and shareholder greed gets in the way.
    – hire more workers and livable wages.

I hope that when AI and Automation inevitably replace and displace millions of menial workers AI and automation will also displace corporate execs as well, they can get to experience what the rest of many working lass Americans are going through.

This is just or even more important, make the vast majority Automation and AI a public utility and publicly owned, not publicly traded.

It will end wealthy “investors” or shareholders profiting from all of it. I.e. Socialize automation and AI, not privatize it.

look I am not anti-tech and you cannot halt progress or stop Revolutions, if anything I think it is time we start changing or replace our lopsided Capitalist system with better Economic models to go along with these changes and makes sure that everyone benefits and not just the 1%.

This is a great way to eliminate low-wage jobs and increase the number of unemployed and poor people. It’s good for investors and executives, no one else.

the word ‘privacy’ is an illusion they want you to have if you have smart devices. Your smartphone already has your data including your biometric information. Don’t be naive in thinking that GDPR or any local legislation will protect that data.

About weight. Can we replace something with the same weight. Like we bough something for our home, than replace the goods with ours? Or we swap with other goods?
About camera. What if the store having aniversary celebration. There are a lot of desain party in the shop. Will the camera still able to function normal?

so what happens if someone has a burner or throw-away phone &/or email that is tied to fake name. how about someone wear heavy obstructive closing (probably sketchy looking) one day and shirt and pants the next.

Boy, this is a first-hand look at companies prioritizing profits over employees. Anything to get that extra buck.
Own a business now, or not many jobs will be left that AI or robots won’t take over for us.

why would one bother to ‘go’ shopping. Let them use this ghastly mechanized world to send the items to us. Why be involved in a world that is merely fashioned/designed to ‘regard you’ like the product you are flinging on a plinth…you are either equated with a robotic device or the product/object being moved. In short, you are being assimilated. Message ends.

There is NO labor shortage. We have runaway inflation and energy costs that have artificially caused the cost of labor to be totally out of phase with the cost of living. Human workers are simply among the first (and not the last) to get squeezed.

How long will it take for the oligarchs to finally realize that 70% of our economy is consumerism. People put out of work by automation don’t have a lot of money to spend.
