While we’re at it, dismantle the corporate wealth extraction system and start letting the producers actually feel the benefits of their work

No duh. But does our government and companies actually CARE? A: No. We’d be more productive if they paid us a bigger wage so we could focus instead of stress about bills but they aren’t doing that either. And if they disposed of their waste properly they wouldn’t polute the only planet we have, but they don’t want to do that either. Go us.

Really doubt it, the government doesn’t need to touch anyone’s company. You would destroy our family business. We work 6 days a week most of the time because no one wants to wait an extra month or year to build their building. This is privileged offices talk right here

When workers regain their deserved appropriate wages and labor gets guaranteed 40 hrs/wk, 1.5x time & double time pay over 40 hrs compensation (earning employer’s matching benefits support… worker productivity increases, people will spend more and the businesses will finally share the actual costs of doing business as before this crushing transfer of wealth to the top slows and becomes better balanced for all workers.

@Otto Bhan no body deserves anything. Take away minimum wage and all the people who actually try will flourish. Minimum caps people’s growth off the bat

October 17, 2022 at 5:59 pm
Why do we need government help if it benefits companies? If companies were truly better off giving their employees an extra day off they would do it on their own without being compelled to do so by the government.

If labor was largely replaced by robotic workers, production would be cheaper, resulting in lower costs of goods and services across the board, necessitating less income and thereby fewer work hours. We could bring labor back to 1st world countries and rely less on cheap labor in countries with questionable labor practices such as China. This could usher in a new golden age of abundance and quality of life. We are at a point technologically, where we should be able to create affordable, intelligent, and universally applicable robotic workers, and we should support that effort as a society.

The 4 day work week, like at the beginning of the introduction of the 5 day work week might feel new and might have these advantages
But i think if you give it enough time, it would become normal and ted talks with the 3 day work days would begin

Great idea but corporate and business mindset is more money, more profits. The people at the top already get more time off than their employees so they don’t care. Wages are kept low so that employees can’t acquire any leverage or power through savings. The powerful don’t even want to raise the minimum wage! So 4 day workweek? Ha. Nice dream.

You have to fully explain it to people though. My Dad suggested the 4-day work week back in the mid 70’s. I heard him and decided to take Fridays off from grade 5. Looking back I don’t think it was that productive because I had to hide from everyone so I really couldn’t get anything done. My fort still didn’t get built any faster. Maybe if it was legal.

At the very least, I have been thinking if I had 4 10-hour days with a full hour lunch, instead of 5 8-hours with a half-hour lunch. That’s three days not commuting, not having to get up early and get a deeper sleep. I’m a gamer, so I do prefer to grind once I’m sitting, then just relax _uninterrupted,_ rather than force all my errands in less time than even the fucking Moon in _Majora’s Mask_ does.

I used to work 12 hour shifts working 4 shifts one week then two the next it, was good money and a lot of free time which felt great, but due to production circumstances they had to change the shift pattern to a 4 day work week working 9 hours a day instead. We were all intially fuming when they put us on it, but then like about 3 months later we realised how good it is, no more long long days or night shifts working from 7pm -7am and that 4 day work week come with a rotating day off in the week. It’s amazing, they’re begging people to go back to 12 hour shifts (Voluntary shift) but we all refuse.

I do 5h everyday, sometimes I take 1 or 2 days off and I’m happy. I don’t feel like I’m working at all, because I do other things for the majority of every day. Still i do 30 to 35 productive hours a week.

Obviously, this is going to lead to people getting paid less, after all, if you’re not working as long then you don’t need as much pay. Additionally, this clearly does not apply to retail sales especially if your company has competitors in the area.

@Sky Gravity I’m not reading all that; but, in answer to the first line, I work for money, gratification, and to learn skills which will give me more freedom and flexibility in the future. I’m a tradesman so I’m already self employed and choose when/ where I work so I’m assuming your thesis doesn’t rlly apply to me, then again I’m sure you’ve just been copying and pasting the same text to all the comments so my individual response probably isn’t important to you.

“We’re gonna make 4-day week”
“Woow, that’s great!”
“But there’s a chance you’re not in that category and you will still work the same week”
“Well, that’s sad, but I like my chances”
“And you’re gonna pay for everyone’s weekends by paying more taxes, even if you won’t get 4-day work week”
“Whaat?”
