It’s encouraging to see more people take up this new attitude of empathy and emotional intelligence. I’m a young person myself, but I hope I remember this lesson as I get older. Thank you for sharing your story.

I think it will be useful to give more importance to storytelling again, especially in times when I am feeling lost it will have precious gems right there. And also I liked his personal way of adressing common concepts like “boundless ingenuity”, that terms are not of everyone. I sense he is a very thoughtful person and really dwindles between different arguments in his job. Also the sense of humor is an added value. Like adressing parents claiming to be above the other parents like two-spidermen pointing to each other, that stroke me haha. I sense he is really having fun right there

Leadership is a verb, and it requires action. Don’t be limited by frameworks and titles. Get proximate to young people, change your language, and hold yourself accountable. Reject false choices and lean into the power of ‘and’. Foster empathy, community building, and storytelling. Stand with and follow the model of leadership demonstrated by young people to fulfill your responsibilities as a leader and stand on the right side of history.

🔑 Key Insights:
• Young leaders show remarkable adaptability, accountability, and ability to drive positive change
• They focus on building community, empathy, and inclusive narratives – unlike many adult leaders stuck in partisan debates
• Mohan learned from youth advocates to:
✨ Prioritize emotional intelligence over rigid management models
✨ Embrace the creativity and storytelling skills of young people
✨ Avoid either/or thinking and instead seek collaborative “and” solutions
• To support young leaders, Mohan suggests:
🤝 Hiring youth, attending their events, and listening to their perspectives
🗣️ Changing how we describe effective leadership
🔍 Reassessing recruitment and selection criteria
The core message is that empowering young leaders is crucial for driving meaningful, equitable progress. By learning from their example, adult leaders can become more impactful.
