I absolutely loathe ASMR and can’t get through a video of it. In fact, I had to stop this one at 11:47 because of it. I guess I’m an outlier.

hello , some of my first ASMR experience was someone whispering in my ear with cupped hands in elementary school . then it was julia child and joyce chen’s cooking shows in the 60s and bob ross painting , and i have been chasing the ” tingles ” ever since . i especially enjoy watching shoe shine men working and make up jobs being performed . BTW the examples you showed , does not do it for me……..great share , thank you , for sharing……….

When I was young, maybe 12/13, I was sitting in the back of the car. My mum was in the passenger seat and dad was driving.

I asked mum, “mum do you ever get a big warm tingly sensation that washes over your whole body.”

She looked at my dad for a moment then said, “not in a long time.”

Last time I asked her about anything 🙈🙈🙈

I think that whatever gives people goosebumps has something to do with ASMR too. State of calm and deep relaxation seem essential though. As do the specific sounds.
It is some kind of simulated association to situations in which we are usually deeply relaxed while someone gives us close personal attention.

I skip videos or mute them when they have asmr in the title. I don’t experience pleasure, but rather pain . White noise and repetitive noises are also disturbing to my brain.

ASMR makes me cringe and feel nauseous. I’m very happy just thinking and contemplating the future of mankind, the universe, and my place in it. I’m an INTJ, and I wonder if our personality has a bearing on our reaction to ASMR.

I am shocked and saddened by the assassination of my friend and longtime partner Shinzo Abe in Japan.

Former Prime Minister Abe was devoted to both the country he served and the extraordinary alliance between the United States and Japan.

I will always remember the work we did to strengthen our alliance, the moving experience of traveling to Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor together.

I send our deepest condolences to the people of Japan who are very much in our thoughts at this painful moment

Just more proof we are all connected as lifeforms and thus some people do not believe in magic(more than your typical sense’s) therefor
they may never feel that sense.

As in the sense has never been trained or grown, and other sense have now gotten so tuff there is maybe no way to allow them to open the door
to that area of their minds.

I would assume training could help but if this sensor has been untrained then It might be a case of you told your
body it was not needed thus you never got to develop it and/or your place of birth and surroundings made it so that sense was
not a viable option for what you was taught was needed for your survival.

Just my 2 cents, will it change the world….(I wish) but I doubt it would even if I was 110% accurate on the above topics.
Knowing the truth is out there and if told the truth many would still choose not to agree is the worst feeling imho.

ASMR is triggered when I flow into art. Hmmm, so must be some connection between flow experience & ASMR. Some art days are hard work but many for me are flow & enjoyably calm as I experiment & watch colour/form/texture develop. ASMR as you say is about a kind, caring person assisting you, so if you are that person to yourself in your daily endeavors VOILA. Guess that’s why we are supposed to learn from our mistakes & not be too hard on self. ASMR is about a state of being & acceptance.

Personally I can’t stand the ASMR where people talk or whisper, or there’s any sort of discontinuous sounds and lipsmacking. It’s uncomfortable and gives me the feeling of “back away I’m about to punch you.” But I would consider the ASMR with just sounds, like the scratch of a pencil as it writes.

    July 12, 2022 at 9:20 am

I have seen many videos explaining ASMR, and “the tingles” and have often wondered if the “feelings” are of more basic response. Let me explain. I see ASMR not as response to sound, but as a reward for intensely for searching and finding an audio response. The ASMR fans are not just playing the sounds, they are actively attempting to connect to every sound and/or frequency in a low sound environment, and their brain is in high scan mode desperately awaiting a response. A confirmation that I am not alone and that the tingles are my brain acknowledging the receipt of those low tones and creating a biological response similar to fight or flight, but in this case since we are already safe, we’re accepting it as pleasure today since we know there is no risk. I like to think that ASMR is a tool we possessed in infancy to receive auditory feedback to confirm that we are not ever truly left alone. Thanks for the presentation, and I love to know if ASMR occurs in blind people since their hearing tends to be more acute.
