Tech that died in 2020
This year we can be grateful to say goodbye to some awkward tech. Look back on the before times as we bid farewell to the Segway, Google Glass… and whatever Quibi was supposed to be.

Toshiba didn’t really dominate the pc or laptop market in the 90/00s. Dell actually did a long with IBM and Apple (before they became a company that is now trash and over priced). Dell still is big in the computer market a long with Apple and even Lenovo is coming up with their thinkpads

Quibi was a great idea for people like me who are the opposite of people who have time to binge watch. Quibi was for busy people on the go. These are people who only have time to watch while commuting on a bus or train or maybe waiting in an airplane terminal. It doesn’t matter now, COVID has forced many to work from home or worst… out of work. It was short, but we thank you Quibi. :”(

My first Toshiba laptop lived 10 years.

Even though it is not Toshiba, I still expect 10 years from my Acer.

I love my Toshiba, mine dates back to about 2015. One of the things I really liked and found lacking in other laptops is the version I had, It had a huge fan vent on the side. Worked so much nicer than just having the vents on the bottom. kept cooler better. Only issue and a few people I know had with the laptops, including my dad and his is at least 10 years older than mine, is the place to physically plug the ethernet cable in didn’t fit the standard size, unless they skimped on the plastics. Leaving one only with wifi to connect to the internet. But they are robust little machines. I type a lot and the keyboard is still going strong. Despite the fact I’ve physically worn dents into the space bar after the first year of use and most of my keys are shiney. It still works and the markings on the keys have not faded or pealed off. And when Windows cannot work on it no more, it will get Linux put on it. It is darn good hardware.

Over the years…
Toshiba also made “somewhat rare” laptops; with specs that well exceeded Alienware, and even came close to MSI. They would make a batch of about one hundred of them just to see if they could make it work.
They would then basically donate most of them to retailers, but…
Through a contract with the retailer; Toshiba would actually take a considerable hit. One could also think of it as a donation. To Toshiba these laptops would normally retail three to four thousand, yet. The retail cost would be a fraction of that – usually less than 1/2.
Again Toshiba did this with batches of computers, about one hundred at a time, but. All told, there were a minimum of three thousand people out there that were able to get a very well spec’d out laptop for an incredible price.
Wonder what the reasoning is on that one? Either way, I know three people that own such Toshiba laptops, and got them well, well under fifty percent of retail
