I only play Paradox games like city skylines, Arthur 2, Eu4, Hoi4, Vic2/3 and games like that. i went from a i7 4790K to a dual Xeon 2699v3 18x18C/92 threads machine to be able to play in 4k (dual 6950XT as graphics from tri 980TI)

My steam deck arrived yesterday and I’ve had a blast trying out various games on it.

Don’t listen to this video when it comes to storage and getting the middle option. Get the 64gb version and buy a 1TB to swap out the internal one. It’s simple so just look up a YouTube video for it.

I love my steam deck matter of fact its the reason I recently bought a gaming pc asus tuf intel i7 with RTX 3070 so i can play my steam library games on either one and since my laptop is window base it means i can purchase games that aren’t currently deck supported and play it on the gaming laptop and if down the road it gets deck support then boom I’m good to go

This guy just wanted something to complain about when it came to the orgonomics of the Steam Deck.

The Steam Decks orgonomics are done right so that the user doesn’t get hand cramps while using it.

If you are going to change the ssd get the base model, you don’t need the mid tier.

I moved all my gaming from consoles and gaming desktop to the Steam Deck. It’s amazing in every way and it keeps getting better.

    March 18, 2023 at 3:31 pm

I waited 1 year and 1 day to get my deck and it was worth the wait. I did get the 64gb model and upgrade the internal storage to 1tb. It’s a easy swap (for a mid-techy person). It would all come to less than the middle one. It’s better than a Switch as it can emulate the Switch and most games run great.

The controls aren’t ergonomic? That has to be absolute first time I’ve ever heard anyone say that. That’s cap.

At least the steam deck you can at least party chat , unlike the switch 🫢

    1. Valve never made any Steam Machines, this was done by PC manufacturers
    2. The Steam Deck is the most ergonomic handheld I’ve ever felt
    3. You CAN’T equate installing something like the Epic Games store on the Steam Deck to doing everything on a Switch without tinkering. That is literally a false equivalent. Did you know that it’s possible to install Android on the Switch? Yeah, except most people aren’t gonna tinker like that. So you’re flat-out wrong. The Steam software and library is what you officially get to use. The hardware just doesn’t prevent you from doing more but to say that this means you HAVE to tinker is all sorts of disingenuous

  16. Nick Beardshall

    March 18, 2023 at 4:52 pm

The Steam Deck is a game changer. I’ve just spent my day off playing Wii games. But if I fancy I can play my Steam games.
It’s not perfect but it’s currently the best handheld gaming machine you can buy.

They need to mass produce it for the other retailers like Target Bestbuy etc then I would totally buy one. 🙂

  20. Matthew Hardwick

    March 18, 2023 at 6:09 pm

For me it’s a cheap entry point into PC gaming which is the main reason why I got it. I know it can do so much more other than playing Steam games but to be able to take that library on the go is fantastic. But I wouldn’t play really demanding games on this device because of the battery life.

  21. Comicbooker

    March 18, 2023 at 6:50 pm

Picked up a Steam Deck about a week ago and I’m totally loving it too! My 7-year old PC was dying so I got this as a replacement and it’s been amazing. Currently playing through Elden Ring and Vampire Survivors and it runs both games really well! I love that it can play all these Triple-A games, and I also love that I can get them for cheap during the many Steam sales (one of which is going on right now!)

I hope intel and nvidia have there portable versions of the the steam deck since the razer edge had the Intel i5 or Intel i7 with windows 8 cpu. The nintendo switch is using a custom tegra processors like the old nvidia shield tablet and nvidia shield portable that I used to have. I’m still waiting for Intel and nvidia with high end desktop cpu in a steam deck form factor. Some of the 2019 gaming laptops had the Intel i9-9900k from dells alienware area 51m and msi gt76 titan. I hope there will be a desktop cpu in a steam deck form factor like the 2019 gaming laptops. I sold the nvidia shield tablet nvidia shield portable because the battery life was mediocre with a mediocre display and a slow micro usb charging port plus they require an nvidia gpu to play certain game titles from your gaming pc unless you played certain games that were exclusive to the nvidia shield devices. I played half life 2 and soul caliber alot on the nvidia shield devices. I ended up getting the nintendo switch because they have crysis remastered since it’s my favorite shooting game besides call of duty and I have to 10,000 mah zero lemon battery case for the nintendo switch since there is a compartment for storing my nintendo switch games and a built in kick stand, it’s heavy but it’s worth it for the long gaming sessions.

  24. H Koizumi

Reviewer still got it backwards. Out of the box, steam deck is plug and play like the Nintendo Switch. Just because Steam Deck allows desktop mode to tinker within doesn’t make steam deck not plug and play. It’s more along the line of Nintendo Switch disallow the options where Steam Deck does.

  25. Bo Mamba

    March 18, 2023 at 9:18 pm

I sold mine because it feels redundant and a bit useless as a handheld device it’s not portable enough to take out with me on the go, as a PC gaming at home I’d rather max out everything on my gaming PC, the battery life is discouraging especially playing heavy 3D titles, hefty and wide to fit in pockets not even small bags, emulation can be done in my smaller handheld devices, I have a Switch which can play Nintendo titles smoothly and just play other games on my console and PC. This product is niche.

wait, that was a bad advice. 256gb is the worst of 3.. best option actually is buy the 64gb and replace it with 1TB SSD. will be about same price as 256gb but way more space than the 512gb.

What does he mean about it not being ergonomic? The design looks bad, but it’s the epitome of function over form. It’s big and ugly but feels amazing to use for adult hands. That’s the point.

    March 19, 2023 at 12:17 am

i brought the 64gb model and stuck a full size 1tb m.2 in it sure the case don;t fit flat at the top but it runs fine xD no heating issues either just thought id let people know your not forced to buy the small sized drives if you dont want to

I’m absolutely thrilled about how successful the Steam Deck has been because it’ll encourage Valve to keep going in this direction and produce better hardware! I think the 2nd and 3rd gen Steam Decks (when they eventually come out years from now) will be truly incredible!

Steam Deck is gonna be a household name even more in the future, its gonna be as popular as a laptop and switch, guaranteed.. they really are on a good start even back in 2022.. 🔥🔥🔥

Get the $400 version and install a 512GB 2230 SSD (~$70), following a tutorial video. The 256GB version would be good value, but that’s even better.

They released a hand-held console with essentially broken software and spent the next 12 months “finishing the product”. They did this because they can’t afford another year of losing market shares.

    Get the cheaper model and a micro SD card, it’s a $100 better value: 64gb Steam Deck + 256gb micro SD = $430. 256gb Steam Deck = $530.

I always thought of myself as an average consumer of the steam i didnt realize few people used the desktop mode infact im watching this video on my steam deck

  41. Luca Barone

People always complain about better hardware. But hardware is constantly evolving, so its pointless. When the next Steam Deck will come out, there’s gonna be people complaining that it’s not powerful enough, and so on… the same has been true with the switch etc. All of this while million of peoples more than enjoy the power it has right now.

  42. Kenji Tasaka

    March 19, 2023 at 10:07 am

The biggest edge the Steam Deck has over it’s competition (Aya Neo, GPD, etc.) is something they will have trouble ever catching up to and that’s Steam itself. They’re taking the same approach that console makers have been doing for generations. Sell the hardware at a loss to get people into their storefront and entice them to buy games through them. Of course since it’s a PC we all know that you don’t have to, but I do think that valve really had two customers in mind. The type that wanted more out of console gaming than what the big 3 offer, and the existing pc gamers that wanted more versatility in how they can game. I’m very happy that they have achieved all of this in basically the span of a year. They got all the PC gamers in early, they did what they will always do (especially Linux folks) and contribute improvements to the whole system, which polished it up just enough for the console gamers to get interested in it. The average PC gamer isn’t going to buy a $1200 handheld PC because they know it’s not a good value compared to a desktop or laptop PC of the same price, and the average console gamer won’t buy a $1200 handheld PC because holy moly that is ridiculous! You could buy all the consoles for that price!

TLDR: Valve made PC gaming more friendly to both PC gamers and console gamers.

Too late to get now. I`d either wait for deck 2 or go for other brands, although more expensive, but they`re more powerful

  51. KingOfMadCows

    March 20, 2023 at 5:25 am

Don’t get the 256GB one. Go for the 64GB one. It is very easy to install an M.2 drive in the Deck on your own. There are tons of guides on youtube. If you’ve ever used a screwdriver before, you can pretty much install the M.2 drive yourself. Installing the Steam OS on the new SSD is very easy too, you just need a USB drive and you can download the OS from Steam. Your can get a 512GB 2230 NVMe drive for around $60 – $70 or a 1TB one for around $180.

  52. Donald Gross

    March 20, 2023 at 10:14 am

Great video. Only thing I disagree with is the recommended model. The basic model is the best value and very usable, I’ve been using mine for months with just the 64 gig internal (plus already owned sd cards), but can easily be upgraded to a now available 1T internal.

  53. WindAddict

    March 20, 2023 at 3:28 pm

I stopped watching when the reviewer said “the controls aren’t super ergonomic”. Obviously he doesn’t know what he’s talking about

  54. sugarhigh4242

    March 20, 2023 at 10:16 pm

Switch doesn’t have other stores, so this doesn’t seem like a mark against the Deck. We all want to play every game that ever existed on the Steam Deck, but that’s not a common expectation for a game system.

  55. unstopology

    March 21, 2023 at 8:24 pm

I love my Steam Deck. The biggest issue I had was the main drive filling up with “other” files, which I think are game files that “have” to be stored on the main drive and not on a SD card. After I installed a bigger NVME, I didn’t have the issue anymore.
