Excellent, easy-to-understand video pitch on an exciting new electrolyzer from Advanced Ionics CEO, Chad, with Q&A / interview by VC panel at the end. Focus on industrial decarbonization by lowering electricity requirements for “green” hydrogen production by 40% or more.

As Chad points out in his presentation, the design goal of his company’s electrolyzers is to use H2O steam and about 35 KWH of electricity (ideally from renewable sources) to produce each kilogram of hydrogen (H2). For those not familiar with the amount of energy, each kilogram of H2 contains about 33.6 KWH of energy. From RMI, “In electrical terms, the energy density of hydrogen is equal to 33.6 kWh of usable energy per kg, versus diesel which only holds about 12–14 kWh per kg. What this really means is that 1 kg of hydrogen, used in a fuel cell to power an electric motor, contains approximately the same energy as a gallon of diesel.”
