A silver lining to this is that even though the required NVMEs in question are pricey, there are enough NVME manufactures that pricing should be competitive as companies try to undercut each other to get more customer purchases.
Im also guessing “Compatible with PS5” is going to be placed on a driver product description on Amazon, Newegg etc to avoid massive returns and wrong purchases.

What has happened to Sony. Xbox Series memory expension you plug and play. Literally. What a shame.

$ony are a joke right now, what a car crash this is… Remember the how to share games video $ony did, MS need to do one around SSD storage upgrades.
Just pop over to MS, plug and play without removing panels, its cheaper to purchase too and no confusions or legal disclaimers.

What a clusterfuck!! Microsoft had the right idea by selling their own proprietary SSD expansion card.

    $220 for xbox 1tb.
    Ps5 1tb (cuda 530) $230 and a faster speed. Can’t go wrong.

PlayStation should be smart and come out with their own SSD that would be compatible or when software or Hardware is available give us the option to upgrade to a 2tb PlayStation 5 cuz I am not going to open mine up that’s for sure

All this is why I’m glad Microsofts Xbox went less confusing and more Simple way when it comes to the Storage Upgrade. The prices is about the same for 1TB. Microsoft one brand one price.
Sony different brands different prices especially for 2TBs and up. Sony should make their own brand with all the specifications need with heat stink. One price depending on the storage size.
    Simple 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

I have a ps5 the drive is so small I installed 3 games and now I cannot update them as my drive is full. PS5 badly designed from day 1. They build an e-commerce store to sell games easy, but give you a hard drive so small you cannot buy. Guess other stores will follow suit, Walmart will start using 3inch x 4inch shopping carts in all stores soon to follow Sonys great example.

Wait till Black Friday if they have on sales.

guys it’s not that hard. Any pcie 4.0 m.2 fits. Heatsinks are dirt cheap very few pcie 4.0 drives have less than 5500MB/s. The TeamGroup T-Force Cardea A440 1TB is $180, has 7000MB/s reads and comes with a heatsink. Team Group T-Force is a well know brand in the PC space. You can also go for the Samsung 980 Pro and Sebrant Rocket SSDs.

    July 31, 2021 at 10:54 pm

I will stick with my external 2tb Samsung Evo SSD. See no point in messing about m.2 . Why didn’t Sony just do, what ms series X, plug in expansion ? Is beyond me.😕

  26. Killer_E305

    July 31, 2021 at 10:59 pm

Microsoft deserves credit for choosing the proprietary route for their expansion ssd drive because the route Sony choose is a confusing mess

These new ssd’s are not worth it in my opinion. Sony really screwed it’s customers with 665gb console ….

  43. STEVEN WORTON

    August 1, 2021 at 12:52 am

I really wasn’t blown away with the quality especially in performance mode or resolution mode it wasn’t much better it’s not worth paying all that money best to stick with external hard drive and just move the games onto internal memory when you need to.
I really was disappointed with PS5

  50. Jason howe

    August 1, 2021 at 8:00 pm

they will likely have to redesign both consoles personally 8 TB should be a minimum standard of provide actual storage capacity to main ssd as for secondary you are likely looking towards 8TB and skies the limit on nas configured ssd’s

    What do I think ?
I think its time for me to stop searching for a PS5 online everyday because this is just rediculus & to much money.
I guess SONY only wants the rich to fully enjoy their PS5.

  56. kevin campos

    August 1, 2021 at 9:41 pm

they might as well tell us wat drives are compatible or overprice us for some sony ones

  57. Mr.SunShine

    August 1, 2021 at 9:57 pm

Turns out the PS5 is far more expensive than the Xbox series X and far more ridiculous to operate truthfully everyone just get a Xbox series X it’s a great system and you don’t have to tolerate any of this b.s. Sony lost this console generation.

  60. Rafa U

  63. Bryce Dabbs

Can’t wait to see how just okay the storage upgrades will be, and even so they’ll still never play to the level of the console storage

  64. Suavemente173

    August 1, 2021 at 11:49 pm

It’s a big headache to find a ps5 without paying the scalpers. But now , it’s a bigger headache to see with Nvme ssd is compatible with the system. Not thanks, I’ll pass. Looks like Next Gen is ALL about the money and less features and wow factors.

  65. BigBossG26W

    August 1, 2021 at 11:52 pm

Wow Sony Bravo 👏 you really did it this time great job. I will take my money and just buy a gaming PC for the price this will a cost. What a joke.
