It seems subtle when she says it, but I have an Irish friend with that name, and when she says it, you can clearly hear Sair-sha. She even once said this actress doesn’t say it right. lol

I remember in an interview (I think Jimmy Kimmel) she said that even she forgets how to pronounce her name at times.

@Samuel the interviewers brought it up

    • Samuel

      January 8, 2023 at 7:43 pm

@Andy Gilleand she would have a publicist who agrees with the interviewer what can be asked, the SNL song was annoying. America is a diverse nation, a non Anglo name can’t be that surprising and there is a large Irish diaspora in the States

    I really can’t hear the difference… I’ve looped it several times & truly don’t hear a difference. Maybe Sur-sha vs Ser-sha, but I don’t know…

    • HouseMDaddict

      Sur-sheh versus sur-shuh. It’s “eh” not “uh”

  42. halatiny

I think Americans would normally say it like “Sorsha” phonetically ig. Instead of the kind of ai or e sounding inflection.

THEY MISSPELT IT IN THE TITLE HELP ME

  44. Stephan Ginther

    January 5, 2023 at 2:10 am

I hear the difference, probably because I’m bilingual but its basically a *_slightly_* harder ‘r’ sound in the Irish version. I think the ‘r’ is slightly shortly too.

I wonder if you knows shes pronouncing it the same each time. Lol

    • Kyron

      January 7, 2023 at 5:15 pm

She isn’t. Sear vs ser are the approximate differences between Irish and non-Irish. It’s very clear.

    • Dancing Ostrich

      January 7, 2023 at 6:30 pm

@Kyron Lol. She may think think shes saying it differently. But shes really not…
And re your explanation. If you took the ‘a’ out of the word search; serch would sound the same.

    • Kyron

      January 7, 2023 at 6:35 pm

@Dancing Ostrich But sear, as in to sear something, or the Sears Tower, isn’t pronounced the same as the “sear” in search. Not even remotely. Surely you understand such basic English, right?

    • Dancing Ostrich

      January 7, 2023 at 6:43 pm

@Kyron I am english. To be fair to her (and you), I just listened to it again on loop about 20 times and on the blu tooth speaker. Just to sure.
Im afraid there is no difference. Or if there is, its so imperceptible to the human ear, its not worth mentioning.

it’s more ‘sear’ sha than ‘ser’ sha but you can use Ser sha too. You’re welcome non Irish people

    • HouseMDaddict

      January 7, 2023 at 7:48 pm

I thought she ended it with “eh” and not “uh” as well. As in sear-sheh and not sear-shuh

    • Frostyblade 88

      January 7, 2023 at 8:28 pm

@HouseMDaddict  You’re right, I missed that, since I knew there was a difference at the end but couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was

the Irish is more like seer-sha and the English is more like sur-shuh. The shwa is different and also English people don’t get Irish phonetics so they sort of Anglicize everything.
