Will old wear os watches be able to run this new combined os

    • Raine Draa

      May 19, 2021 at 12:41 am

Maybe it will eventually rollout to current and some older watches, but I suspect it won’t be available on any watches that aren’t new watches for some weeks or even months

The number of times “Google has not laid that out yet” makes me hesitant for any longevity in their product releases.

Fitbit is my only option for an iPhone that isn’t an Apple Watch. Sad to hear.

It’s what I was hoping for for sometime now. I love my active 2 and I feel if it had some of Googles smart touches with a smidge of fitbits fitness forte, it would be a perfect and we’ll rounded competition to the Apple watch.

A Samsung, Fitbit, Google Watch with even more ripped-off Apple Watch features sounds as laughable as Google’s boring I/O, and as laughable as Samsung’s Smartwatch sales. 🤦‍♂️😁🎤

Sooo, when the new Samsung watch launches, is gonna be the perfect time to search for sales on a galaxy watch 3 o active 2, and have it long enough to let this new joint-venture play out and mature

    May 18, 2021 at 11:57 pm

Does the existing wearOS watches get future OS updates? Example: ticwatch pro 3 that have the latest processor

    • Øystein

      May 19, 2021 at 1:54 pm

Uhm… Ok? We already have several options that do that already.. I’ll take most other watches over an Apple watch any day

    • GliderMan

@Øystein most watches don’t have the combination of features and that level of integration on android

They are not creating an android watch.

Looks like it,s a tizen, wear os hybrid. Not android

  33. Robson Umdenstock

It’s all still really confusing. The Apple Watch is one seamless device and software. Google just can’t compete

  34. Jeffrey Love

    May 19, 2021 at 10:34 am

Can’t wait to see what they come up with. I just hope the watch is strong and screen is tough and won’t crack when it suddenly strikes something got to wait and see glad I didn’t get my watch yet and also I’m waiting for the Pixel 6 to come out

  35. Will

    May 19, 2021 at 12:08 pm

All they really need to do is make Fitbit sync with Google Fit, but it doesn’t sound like they’re in any hurry to make that happen.

    May 19, 2021 at 12:08 pm

Does anybody else thinks that’s Elon musk on watch display?

  37. Timothy Collins

    May 19, 2021 at 12:17 pm

Ugh. The top, number 1, priority I have in smartwatches is battery life. As is my Fitbit sense gets 4 days to a charge. 5 Days if I push it. I like that. Wear OS… If it makes me charge every day or every other day turns me off entirely.

  38. Diwosh karki

    May 19, 2021 at 12:58 pm

    Sounds bad for tizen os

  39. Jaybie Dayy

    May 19, 2021 at 1:14 pm

So basically Samsung wants it’s own OS but with android wear apps 😂

  40. Øystein

    May 19, 2021 at 1:44 pm

No, it does not sound impossible in any way. They all do work together with Google for software etc anyway so it actually makes sense for all of them to team up.

Great, now Google can sell all my health data to every company as that is their business model to do so, I will get all the pop-up ad to spend more money to improve my health! Looks like spending money to buy a watch will allow a company to collect information to require the consumer to keep spending more money and…. that is good for the health (financial health?) I guess we have different view on “Health”

  44. Steven Mancera

    May 19, 2021 at 5:57 pm

For something as grand and big is I/O, even being cancelled and delayed for a year, it seems a lot of things Google announced today was a lot of “unknown”

That Material You, Android Auto, and this supposed WearOS-Tizen merging.

They completely botched it and didn’t learn on Apple’s announcement of Catalyst or Rosetta apps coming to Mac on the past years

    • JAY MAN

      May 20, 2021 at 4:00 pm

you do realize google take about other things after the event, which is where they talk more about to chrome os side you can’t compare that two events they serve to different purposes for developers

  45. Richard Thomasson

    May 19, 2021 at 9:39 pm

Disjointed and messy. Promises and unions that have produced nothing but rumors. It seems that if Google ever does produce a Pixel Watch it would be abandoned by year two anyway. This all adds up to the Apple Watch series 6 resting on my left wrist.

    May 19, 2021 at 10:03 pm

Google working with Samsung? this is massive. i was planning on getting the new Active 3/4 when it launches in June/July, but now i’ll wait for my birthday in Fall… thanks for this unexpecting & welcoming news.

  48. Diego Teliz

    May 19, 2021 at 10:20 pm

I would love to see an improved (smaller) version of the fitbit flex 2 for sleep tracking… or even better, a smart ring! or whatever is confortable for sleep tracking purposes. A smartwatch is not the answer…

  49. Don Payton

    May 19, 2021 at 11:24 pm

Never going to go anywhere till they give up on the stupid round design. It’s a smartwatch not an analog

Google wear os is really really far from the Apple Watch OS …

  55. ikku4321

    May 20, 2021 at 8:28 am

RIP Tizen. Samsung has been killing off it’s health app features one by one for quite some time now. So the news was long time coming. Once again we are left with only two options: Apple or Google. Viva la monopoly.

    • JAY MAN

      May 20, 2021 at 4:03 pm

you getting it a little confused Tizen is not died is just combined so the name is Tizen os the layer is still Tizen but with more Google like the playstore and others that’s why it’s not called Wear Os anymore

    • ikku4321

      May 20, 2021 at 5:36 pm

@JAY MAN Give it a year or two and it will be also renamed. Point being, it’s now transforming to googles ecosystem and we have one choice less as a consumers. With this move google pretty much bought itself a smart watch segment outside Apple (first Fitbit now Samsung). Regular user segment used to have Fitbit, Tizen, Wear OS and watchOS. Now there’s only two. However they market it to you monopoly isn’t good for anybody. Not mentioning how invasive it actually feels.

    • JAY MAN

      May 20, 2021 at 6:03 pm

@ikku4321 so the partnership actually benefits android uses in the long run because now you don’t have to worry about apps support which is one of the biggest things that was holding Tizen, and Fitbit back the name change more than likely won’t happened because Samsung exclusive doesn’t allow that I worked on the wearables and consumer mobile team at Samsung and it’s a lot of things the public gets wrong about this partnership.

    • ikku4321

      May 20, 2021 at 6:37 pm

@JAY MAN you and me worry about very different things, but that’s ok.

    • JAY MAN

    May 20, 2021 at 12:51 pm

Imagine a smartwatch with a lots of bloatware like the Samsung’s smartphones that have a lots of duplication of app in Google and Samsung’s software. That’s a massive FAIL!

Btw, I had three iterations of Tizen-run watches, the Samsung Gear S (Curve), Gear S2 and Galaxy Watch (aka S4). Tizen is smooth and seamless but it does struggle/stutter a few times and have limited apps. It is very fan and futuristic since it was a stand alone watch that I can use for calls or answer through my watch.

I’d say that the jack of all trades approach of Samsung in their watches is the culprit of not having to master one aspect of their claimed watch features such as heart rate sensor with inaccurate readings and GPS that always have inaccurate distance and pace measured and the lackluster battery life.

So, in the end I had to switch to Garmin Fēnix 6 Pro for a sport-oriented GPS watch for my sport needs.

Samsung’s watch face designing feature sucks. Facer and Watchmaker are great for both Tizen and WearOS.

    FINALLY…

A Galaxy Watch that I would actually be excited to upgrade my Gear S3 Frontier to.

The 46mm Galaxy Watch 4 LTE should pair nicely with my Z Fold 3…

About time Google and Samsung combined resources for Android.
