Snort! China is not ahead of us in AI, they have some capabilities with AI but that does not equate to some how being ahead of the US. Furthermore China is at least a decade behind the US on microprocessors and that distance is now set to grow as the sheer amount of money in China being lost to corruption is just mind boggling.

What you are seeing since Trump took office in 2017 is the US slowly and steadily pulling ahead of the Chinese on just about any industry that requires large processing power.

When you combine this with all the other crap going on inside China you get a general picture of malaise that doesn’t indicate China getting ahead of the US at least not without the US actively aiding China and that’s not happening any more for obvious reasons.

Furthermore don’t expect China to pull out of the current economic downturn inside China quickly. China requires a complete overhaul of its economic system and that’s unlikely to happen until things utterly break inside China and the CCP has no other choice.

@weinam chia Snort! No matter what happens I’m certain that the right course of action is economic decoupling from China. Xi is not trustworthy and will use any opportunity to stab the US in the back. Better to be done with that devil now that we exactly what he is.

the gpu is MADE IN CHINA

    • mindpuzzle81

      June 17, 2023 at 4:41 pm

@brandon kim no the fabs for all advanced processors are outside of China. China largely has low end processor fabs in the sub 24 micron area and even then it requires imports of US technology to function. The advanced processors have an almost 80 percent US IP rate in both the chips themselves as well as the machinery that makes the Chips. Sure ASML is Dutch but the R&D is all US, same with alot of Japanese and Korean machinery companies.

So no the chips are not being made in China for advanced processes which includes AI and many other fields.

    • Jack Smith

      June 17, 2023 at 4:44 pm

@mindpuzzle81 china is already making them and now it’s been announced that chips act is being amended dummy

Stop saying China is copying US or stealing US IP. US does all this plus so much more unscrupulous things! Look in the mirror first before accusing & criticizing others. There are so many things that China has that US doesn’t even have yet. China has 1.4 billion population & have capable human beings that can invent & be innovative just as much as the U.S. & the west. For thousandths of years, China has invented major things that contributed to the good of the world & where the west has copied or copied stolen intellectual inventions or innovations that were unique from China only. US was not even a thought on this planet then. US is built on innovations by the immigrants, many students, scientists are of Chinese descent. The world can work together if U.S. stops being so hegemonic & so arrogant!

All these hi-tech were largely available in West but never shared openly with developing countries and people-in-need. Now with China in the lead, such technologies and collaborations help world towards a shared and prosperous future.

China has literally no a.i that is worth noting. These experts don’t understand China labels average tech as ai…. How can you market yourself as an expert and not see that all of their flagships are either stolen or cobbled together. Nothing worth stealing from. China nor worth paying attention to. The only thing they do is clone and copy and they make cheap things. Unfortunately that also means the tech they make is often unreliable or sets on fire. Take your pick.

    • Kshoo

      June 17, 2023 at 12:12 am

No, it’s actually not. Look at the U.S. education system. We have barely changed curriculum since the 80s. And yet China, Japan, Singapore, Germany, and many other top educational countries have computer science and coding as CORE curriculum, taught to every child. They are so far ahead of us in this way that we will absolutely feel the gap in our technological abilities in the next decade alone. They emphasize STEM over all else while the U.S. has only plummeted in the last 5 years alone in educational milestones. Look at the states, high schoolers are at 7th grade math and reading levels now. Our kids can barely keep attention for 2 straight minutes. How do you think that will translate on the global stage in just 5 years alone? We are so. Far. Behind.

    • Jim King

      June 17, 2023 at 12:24 am

@Kshoo – Your several great points do not negate my claim. Have you seen all the videos about how China cheats on everything? Bicycles piled as high as mountains? Electric vehicles parked, covering thousands of acres that don’t even operate? CCP operatives ‘painting’ farmland and everywhere else imaginable the color ‘green’. Installing fake wheat and corn, etc. They are nothing but ‘paper tigers’, as phony as a $3 bill. (But, you did make some good points.) …By the way, are you CCP?

  10. Kshoo

    June 17, 2023 at 12:07 am

No shit. They’re ahead of us in curriculum. They actually teach comp sci as core curriculum, meanwhile the US has barely adapted core curriculum since the 80s. We are abysmal in every facet of education. This gap will only grow exponentially unless we seriously start to invest and care about our education system the way China, Singapore (especially) and many other countries do. They are too far ahead of us to reasonably expect for the US to lead in any tech industry in the next decade alone. This will also be clear as war evolves to tech and aerospace.

Stealing a technology and stealing a child is a different thing. China has stolen from you the technology, but you have stolen from me my child (my invention) and tortured me. Torture and pressure is not helping the creativity only destroyes that, I am happy that you have helped me to destroy my ability to invent even more. Listen to my phone and make a pressure on my laptop, never again with my creativity never ever.

@xinyiquan666 all of china’s top ai has to do with facial recognition and surveillance. China only leading in those 2 department . While China will catch up by 2035. The top 5 ai in the world are way ahead of china’s progress outside of those 2 category because private companies aren’t focusing on spying on citizens.

    • Zelgie

      June 18, 2023 at 4:56 pm

@xinyiquan666 and to your questions of how do they implement it if they don’t have the technology. Facial recognition ai is different from deep thinking ai. Facial recognition is done by comparing points of facial features. While it is still ai, it needs far less processing power and way less programming compares to an ai that replicate deep thinking. You don’t understand this because you’re ignorant in this field.

Rouland is just regurgitating propaganda. China steals our IP.. Didn’t he read ASPI’s report in feb 2023 that said that in research in 44 critical technologies for the 21century, China is ahead of the US in 37 of them? And are they actually ahead of us in AI? One thing he did say that made sense was in cyber offense and defense, the US is by far in the lead. After all China’s been buying Cisco routers/switches for decades.

With one fifth of mankind in China, there are more super geniuses in that country than the West can imagine. They also have a political system that allows stability for long term planning including means to defend themselves. Thus, China is unstoppable. The majority of the world is with China and Russia now, that’s a fact. In this irreversible trend, the West needs to redo their thinking before being marginalized in an exponential way. It’s obvious in the eyes of the world, but it is not yet clear to people who still dwell in their wishful thinking.

🏺The British, the PENTAGON provoked the Russians to a war in Ukrainian by killing 14 thousand Russian children, women, and older man in the DONBAS area. The Ukrainian people are been used by NATO, in a planned 10 years PROXY WAR AGAINST RUSSIA. Do the people of Taipei, TAIWAN know they are next to be used by USA-NATO IN a PLANNED PROXY WAR against CHINA? The PENTAGON.BIDEN is arming Taiwan to give their Government the allusion they can win a war against China. Think, In 2014 Obama&Biden through the PENTAGON & NATO started the Ukrainian war training 900 thousands military Ukrainians and put lot of weapons including biologic-weapons “labs” in Ukraine to be used to exterminate the Russian and their promising economy as the PENTAGON intended to do in China with the COVID19VIRUS, These Bio-weapons give the Ukrainian Government the allusion they could win a war against Russia, but, most if not all of that 900K are now dead. TAIWAN will suffer the same destiny their island will be destroyed, except, if they get rid of their corrupt senators and president, for Ukrainians is too late.🍽

The same old RACIST anti Ch–>ina prop–>aganda….. “Ch–>ina is stealing our technology”.
When Ch–>ina is way ahead of USA in numbers of new high tech patents filed every year. It’s actually the US that is now trying to steal Ch–>ina’s technology.
And who files the most new patents in USA?….. the Ch–>inese Americans… by FAR. US high tech industry would collapse without those Ch–>inese and Asiian Ameriiiicans doing all the research.
