IP ratings cost money. I bet they segmented the phones to save on money while everyone knows the phones are the same and will perform the same in water resistance. No phones with IP rating are protected on a warranty. It really doesn’t change anything other than your perception.

My 1+ 8 pro dropped on cement with the case off about 3 weeks ago. Still works but the case is shattered on one side. Had to go back to Samsung as this 1 plus was not available.

Hey CNET team, I know you have bunch of people to test the different gadgets and variety of other things. But my suggestion are,

Why you guys DON’T ever talk about the how’s the cellular Call quality 📞 and network reception📶 of LTE or 5G in any of smartphone review videos in whichever places you are testing ?

Its such a basic function of any smartphones. Only fewer times Lexy and Patrick talks about it in a video or written review.

You guys just speak about looks and design, display & its refresh rate, performance, cameras, User interface (UI), Updates, charging & price. That’s it, nothing else.

Here are the some other basics you guys need to cover more in future smartphone review videos,

    1) NOBODY talks or mention about about the how’s the speaker quality ? Whether is it a mono or stereo speaker and presence of dolby Atmos or not ? If its a stereo, nobody will tell you how’s the stereo separation when listen to music and dialogues.

    2) If you’re a media consumption type of a person, again there is NO talks or pointing out about the Digital Rights management (DRM) whether the smartphone chip supports HDR videos or not in video streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video & manymore. Only lord knows 😒😂

    3) NO mention of Detailed display screen, whether is it good IPS LCD or AMOLED screen ? If AMOLED Display, again NO pointing out is it good or bad.

    4) No mention of how’s haptic feedback (vibration motor) while typing or gaming, if you enabled it.

    5) No mention of How’s the RAM management. Whether the apps you use more often stays in the memory for longtime or not.

    6) NO mention of Screen on time (i.e, SOT) on a single charge. All they say is all-day battery life or slightly extended to next day.
It is just same as the smartphone OEMs claims in their presentation or keynote during the launch of that smartphone.

    7) instead of wasting time in testing few things, tell them about the useful and proper practical features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi calling, presence of NFC or not for the wireless payment, smart features like controlling your home devices, etc.

Please add all the above pointers in your written review as well.

    Thank you.

well said harshad . mobile phone reviews have drawn a parallel to the new car reviews like exteriors, interiors and audio leaving out vitals like handling, ride quality, AC performance on a hot day, G-effect while cornering, vehicle response and driving style required to squeeze the last mile out of each gallon of fuel .. everything has become superficial or peripheral or ornamental .. whichever way you call it .. applies same to smartphone reviews as well .. .. sic .

No it’s not a great Samsung alternative 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
They ruined the software, the cameras offer nothing special… Others are mentioning about OxygenOS and how this phone is just another iteration in its downfall IDK what people who made this video are Timonium thinking.

9 Pro has IP rating this one doesn’t have it and costs a lot again instead is costing lesser like 7T Pro did.

    • richiepaidsotv

@Dragos Pahontu you missed the whole point. Ofcourse it costs money but it a device that’s half the price can afford to have it, what’s Oneplus 10 pro’s excuse?

    • Dragos Pahontu

      April 1, 2022 at 3:48 pm

@richiepaidsotv they want to only spend money where it is necessary. Any OnePlus phone is water resistant. Unless you go swimming underwater for extended periods of time.

@CNET Hi, great video. Am I correct to assume the phone shown in this video is the global variant of OnePlus 10 Pro ? May I please know what the model number is and what region it is ? Is it NE2213 ?

I read somewhere that Op10Pro’s global variant has an extra microphone on the camera bump making it total of 3 microphones compared to 2 microphones on the Chinese variant. The device you have doesn’t show a microphone hole on the camera bump but I am confused as review videos of global variant of op10pro from some other reviewers have this extra microphone on the camera bump. Your thoughts please ?

What are the model numbers of Global Variant of Op10pro ? Where can I find more info on the various model nos of global variant and their differences in band support ?

all this rubbish talk about their software update being terrible is BS, I almost bought it these bunch of losers. Its absolutely fine and in fact I find it interesting and it is still fluid. Its less boring and organized. battery life has been great. Im from oneplus 9r and find it better than the old Oxygen OS. I’ll be switching to 10 pro when the prices drop end of the year.

Just because it doesn’t have the IP68 certification doesn’t mean it doesn’t have the requisite sealing that provides the water protection. Getting the certification requires costly machinery to perform the test and the manufacturer must pay a fee for every phone sold to be able to claim the certification. A cost conscious manufacturer might just install the sealing on the phone, which costs pennies, and forgo the certification. This is likely what OnePlus has done with the 10 Pro. T-Mobile has apparently requested that phones sold through their channels have the certification. It’s doubtful that OnePlus is making a different phone for T-Mobile and more likely that they are merely paying the certification fee for any phones sold through T-Mobile.
