Apple sleep tracking vs sleep++ differences. Is one better then the other? Using sleep++ now. Thanks if you test this CNET.

I could careless about the sleep tracking..I’m like you, I already know I don’t get enough sleep, don’t need another reminder..But I’m really excited for the Watch Face sharing..I hope there’s a share gallery in the app or something

This is how I think of the new sleep tracking: For those who mainly just want to get a good sleep duration, basic HR data, and a bedtime routine, all they need is Apple’s sleep app. For those who want comprehensive details and don’t need the bedtime routine features, use an app like AutoSleep or Pillow. For those who want both, they could use the bedtime/wind down features at the same time as using an app like AutoSleep. It will work you just have to change a setting or two in the Heath app to prioritize the third-party app

I don’t think will get a Apple Watch 6..if anything I bet will get a kids type watch..like a Apple Watch SE, where it’s a updated version of the series 3..better cpu chip or something like that

I am looking for more battery life so I can run a full marathon without turning any apps or cellular off. Also would be nice to have a running community like Strava or Garmin connect without giving out my phone number

Mate, just use Autosleep. It’s been around forever for the apple watch and it has all those details other smartwatches have. it was always possible to do that without the battery running out

I’m curious to see if they’re gonna do something similar to the iphone 11 and increase the battery capacity. I currently rock a galaxy watch active 2 and love the 2 day battery life, but I miss the added functionality and more refined interface of my old series 2 watch. Something that would even work would be a fast charge feature. I’d usually charge my watch when I take a shower and leave it on a bit after, and if the watch could get a boost from 35% at the end of the day to 100% within an hour, that would be awesome.

It is only basic sleep tracking without measuring of quality. I will still use Auto Sleep 💤 App

  14. Shawn Forsyth

    June 24, 2020 at 10:58 pm

Sleep tracking is very disappointing after using it for a couple days. AutoSleep blows it away.

  15. Gabriella

    June 24, 2020 at 11:06 pm

So…it will only track how many hours slept? But not how much of that time was spent in REM, light sleep, etc?

  16. MiracleWarriors

    June 24, 2020 at 11:10 pm

Lol to 30% battery to be able to use the watch for sleep tracking.
My two years old Samsung Galaxy Watch requires around 5% of battery to track my REM (turned on) sleep or it uses a bit less battery with REM tracking off.
The Apple watch using way too much battery for a simple feature … I guess they don’t own any patents on the matter and they need to go shopping…

    June 24, 2020 at 11:29 pm

I do own an apple watch 5 but i don’t need it to show me i long i sleep so iam not going to use it. 😊
If you really want a shorter battery life so go ahead and update.

Since when is sleep tracking so important? If I sleep through the night I had a good nights sleep, if I wake up a few times not so good sleep, it’s as simple as that 🤷‍♂️. I think Apple needs to empty out their suggestion box at the office and start fresh. 😂

  23. Paul Kovacs

    June 25, 2020 at 12:50 am

Wear watch all night, just charge in the morning while getting ready. Never think about having to charge my watch for over a year now. Use Autosleep app. Better looking than theirs for tracking, but their app with strong integration with the phone, will give them better advantage for pre-sleep activities, which is more beneficial than looking at your numbers in the morning…..

My Series 4 charges in about 90 minutes. So I put it on the charger before I shower in the evening & put the watch back on (using Auto Sleep) when I go to bed. I wake up with 90+% charge and Auto Sleep lets me know how the night went.

I’m definitely interested in doing a deep down of that feature once it’s launches… just may take a bit longer because I’m going to need to test it and interview a physician to interpret the data.

Gotta be honest, watch OS 7 has pretty much only one thing that interests me and that is the new XL watch faces. I am visually impaired so I use XL watch faces all the time so I am curious as to how much more customisation they will have. One thing I would like to know is can you turn off the auto-brightness yet? That is the biggest pain for me with the apple watch because I want it bright all the time no matter how dark it is as it is easier for me to see when it is on full brightness.

I’m a bit underwhelmed about the sleep monitoring function. I have been very focused on my sleep habits since my apnea diagnosis, and am currently using the free version of another sleep app to monitor it. Still, something is better than nothing. Now if they could just have some diabetes tools/apps to use for WatchOS 8 I’d be a happy camper!

Apple should just allow to remove the time complication altogether from a face. Sometimes I just don’t want to be reminded of the time when checking my apple watch, even if it’s the small complication in the top corner. It’s still valuable real state that could be used in a more relevant way to its user.

    June 25, 2020 at 11:19 pm

I’m really glad sleep tracking is now native in watchOS 7, but I’m little bit disappointed that it does not measure the quality of your sleep. I used to sleep with my Fitbit on my wrist and I really liked the detailed sleep analysis it gave me. I’ve also used third party sleep tracking Apple Watch apps such as Sleep++ and there I get analysis on when I was restful during the night. I hope Apple will improve this feature before watchOS 7 goes to the public or at least in future updates of watchOS 7.

  50. Video Biker

    June 26, 2020 at 12:25 am

As I said in my other comments on this subject, the sleep function is very important to me. I currently use a third-party sleep app on my watch and it it is helping me tremendously. I just changed work schedules and the watch helped me to fix my sleep schedule to adapt to my new work schedule. I’ll be more than willing to check out the new sleep app, but if it’s not as thorough as the one I’m currently using I will probably stick to what I have.
The feature that I’m really waiting to see on the watch itself will be the ability to measure my blood oxygen levels. I Work in a group home and ability to know what my blood oxygen level is at a glance would be very helpful to me.

AutoSleep app works great, just remember to put the screen in Theater mode. The bigger text feature is a welcome one. The biggest need to address on Apple watches is battery life.

  56. Xavier Breath

    June 26, 2020 at 1:45 pm

Sleep tracking? Who cares, the Apple Watch has been able to do this for YEARS, due to the efforts of app developers writing apps for the watch. Personally, I’m far more interested in Apple adding features that don’t already exist such as opening it up for developers to make watch faces, the ability to name watch faces and change them using Siri, a blood oxygen meter, a temperature gauge (for taking the body temperature of the wearer), blood pressure gauge, and useful features such as notifications when the watch and my iPhone are separated.

  58. Xavier Delgado

    June 26, 2020 at 2:00 pm

So it works but you need to figure out how to plug it to a 5000mah power bank at night for it to work because there is no way you will have 30% before you go to sleep.

Let me buy a Xiaomi mi watch which now has received an English update and it will last 3 days with way better sleep monitoring.

Sleep tracking is lacking….. big time. I am getting more details from a 3rd party app than I would be with apple.

  65. Yossi Starz

    June 26, 2020 at 6:14 pm

I usually use my watch to wake up at the best time possible, so because my watch knows when I am at a lite sleep and not on rem or deep sleep, it can wake me up at the closest time to the original alarm time. It is disappointing to see that Apple just adding sleep tracking now, and that it will be so partial feature as all of the past two years fitbit devices are already doing it fully and even my ticwatch which is wear os device can do it fully and last for more time than that, and it only requires up to ~16% to do that.

  66. Andrew Keys

    June 26, 2020 at 6:43 pm

i’m wearing my apple watch all day long and when i go to sleep all i want is to be wrist-free so i can rest well without waking up during the night thinking that i might’ve hit the watch on the headboard which will give me anxiety.

  67. Stephen Brown

    June 26, 2020 at 7:03 pm

I have been using a 3rd party sleep tacking app for about a year and I like it. finding out how much deep sleep that I get has been instructive.
I am using sutosleep but the watch heart rate and motion sensors are required to get it to work.

My Apple Watch is charged before I sleep and lasts practically 24/7 🥴 I put cinematic mode on to stop my watch motion turning the face on… it takes about 1-1.5 hours for mine to charge as it’s usually on 33-40% 😌☺️

I agree with u. I used to use Fitbit or other app on Apple Watch for sleep analyzing. But it really doesn’t give u much real life changing. Coz u most already know ur sleep from ur body and mind next day and u also likely know what caused bad sleep already. I get it’s fun and excited to see data graph and.more especially to some ppl who r data junkies (is there such a. Word ?)

They need the ability in the workout app to count your steps accurately while mowing your grass. I have a large yard and I use a push mower vs a riding mower. Takes me about 3 hours walking vs 1 riding. It’s great exercise and not boring like just walking. Would be nice to be able to track this especially since I mow my lawn 3 times a week most weeks.

2 things. Under the best circumstances sleep tracking is difficult and very inaccurate. Apple will likely be worse than everyone else. Second; I find the Apple Watch 5 as a WORTHLESS exercise tracker. I have an ebike, all kinds of sensors. I did a couple of fast rides of over 40-50 min. Each time the dumb watch gave me credit for 6 minutes of exercises it detected. Abysmal success. So, sticking with vest strap and Strava. Don’t buy this watch for exercise

I’ve tried a couple of sleep “trackers” and they never met my expectations, but then again, what is my expectation of sleep tracking? I need to work that out first… hoping this sleep tracking update “shows me the way”. By the way, a hand washing reminder???!!! Seriously? Come on Apple.

I’ll believe in Apple’s customer commitment when they make the repair or replacement of the Apple Watch face available instead of the current choice which is “zero”.

So it sounds like they’re confirming the battery life of the new Apple Watch 6 still sucks compared to the Fitbit
