I recommend Sacvenger’s Reign (Netflix/MAX) as a great imagination of what an alien world could look like that’s completely absent the logic of earth. It’s very well done and is perhaps the most alien world I’ve seen imagined.

Are we supposed to believe that this guy actually knows or if he did would actually tell us what Area 51 is used for? It’s generally common knowledge that it’s a hyper top secret aerial craft and warfare development site, but there’s absolutely way more going on there than just that.

First time on the channel, great watch, will be back.
If I look at the Drake equation, 30 years back at uni when I first learned about it. We knew about star formation, we knew about the likelihood of planets and the rest was a guess pretty much. Compared to now, stars check, planets check, habitability check, right chemistry very probable. Next step is life.

The concept of habitable is an interesting one. We base the standard for life on other planets on the question if what’s found on Earth can survive elsewhere. But we’re also biased in assuming other life forms would need the same parameters to survive.

My guess is there is zero chance we are the only planet in the universe with some kind of life. I can’t prove it scientifically.

While I’ve never seen extraterrestrial life, that I know of, I have seen an unidentified flying object that simply cannot be explained by known technology, especially back in the mid-80s, and it’s something I saw with my own eyes in an environment and situation there was no chance of any optical illusion.

  80. @blammela

    July 25, 2025 at 2:02 am

The likelihood of us seeing technosignatures would be so slim since we aren’t seeing them how they are but how they were based on how far the light has had to travel (which will never nit blow my mind) and the likelihood of us intercepting a communication frequency or laser or… os also so so so low. We just have no intuition for how wildly huge the universe is.

  90. @bundyb5343

    July 25, 2025 at 2:18 pm

Why is all life on earth related? Biogenesis only happened once on earth in 4.5 billion years. I think that may be an indication that life is extremely rare. If just having the conditions for life meant that life would exist, then every geothermal vent and every primordial puddle would have been an idle place for biogenesis on ancient Earth. However, all life we have ever found on earth has a single common ancestor. I think that instead of trying to find life elsewhere scientists should focus on finding an unrelated microbe here on earth. Some extremophiles in some inhospitable place here on earth. If they can prove biogenesis happened more than once here on Earth, then surely it has happened elsewhere.

I also find it quite arrogant to think that, if other forms of life exist outside of Earth, they are outhere sending signals like us to get found. I imagine life is like seeding. Throw tons and tons of difficult to grow seeds in tons of different places and hopefully some of them take

Claiming something you see is a UFO or aliens is kinda like ancient people claiming things they didn’t understand were the works of gods

  115. @donaldesmith1

    July 28, 2025 at 1:32 am

I hate that teacup analogy, because if you scoop a cup of out the ocean you would definitely find life. So the fact that we looked at that much and haven’t found life yet could indicate that life IS rare.
Or, what he said beforehand, that we haven’t looked very thoroughly. We just don’t have the tech. For example we’re just now planning trips to Europa and we’re not even going to land on it let alone explore its oceans.

  118. @Phlucious

    July 28, 2025 at 2:23 pm

18:50 Why are we interested in whether there IS life on Europa? Isn’t the more interesting question whether or not it can support human life?

Only a matter of time now before we get definitive proof that other life exists out there in the universe.

  121. @Saoirse-x6t

    July 28, 2025 at 6:29 pm

I think we are alone. That’s the whole point. We are never supposed to be able to know or fathom anything else that exists, that would be in another universe, not this one. We can try so hard to find others for billions of years and we never will.

I wish these guys would do their science communicating in places other than Wired.
Great as it is for these fun YouTube videos, the people who actually need to hear these guys talk at length are never going to click on this.
They need to be on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Talking to the Paul Guys/Adin Ross’s of the world. They need to be countering this wave of absolute stupidity crashing over this nation.

30 bn planets potentially harbouring life is great. And Drake’s equation/fermi paradox tells us it is possible but perhaps improbable since we haven’t come across it yet.

“habitable” planets rely on our understanding of habitable. Mimicking conditions similar to early earth on ocean surfaces for spontaneous biochemistry to evolve. But who’s to say that’s the only way “life” can come about? Certainly, in our world it is. We may just be looking for the wrong signs.

  126. @sullychow4123

    July 29, 2025 at 5:38 am

This guy takes the miracle of life here and our solar system for granted. Thats what happens when you keep looking out.

    • @alilarhdiri9666

      July 30, 2025 at 3:28 am

Why does he take it for granted? Also looking out is what made humans so advanced. People like you used to burn women because they had red hair

I am always hearing this “habitable zone” which is kinda funny considering we think the best chances for life in our system are in the moon of planets outside the habitable zone. Considering that for each planet there are several moons, the numbers are actually way bigger

  129. @vicxbottaro

  131. @NoMeBruh

    July 29, 2025 at 2:40 pm

21:48 .. And that’s exactly why humanity is doomed to extinction — because we don’t think or act as one. Instead of working together to evolve, we divide ourselves over everything: race, beliefs, politics, personal interests. We judge, we compete, we fight. The truth is, the more we focus on what separates us instead of what unites us, the less chance we have to move forward. As long as we keep putting ego and conflict above cooperation, we’ll stay stuck — until we eventually destroy ourselves.

  132. @jakewelch3559

    July 29, 2025 at 5:11 pm

Even if only 1% of 1% of habitable planets had life, there would still be hundreds of thousands of habitable planets with life.

  133. @OrojinMusic

    July 29, 2025 at 5:25 pm

Why is this guy the first person I’ve ever heard saying that the conditions on other planets make them “habitable” by nature? Like earth isn’t special?

  134. @pamelalapier9633

    July 29, 2025 at 5:47 pm

I agree there’s likely other intelligent life out there, but if they came here, they’d leave immediately. We’re still too savage to want to get to know. Hopefully, it won’t we like Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. 😂❤

I wonder how hindered we are by our observable world and what we define as life. It is entirely possible that we are just looking for something like us, but are going to miss “life” because it isn’t something we can even comprehend yet.

Just wow, scientist that just takes wild guesses. Drake equation does not mean ”there’s probably lots of life in our galaxy”. We have no way of telling how suitable for life planets are, what is the probability of abiogenesis, multicellural life, intelligent life, technological life…
