Understand that this research is extremely important with increasing robot speeds sooner rather than later so that the first terminator version, T-1000 I believe, will be more realistically faster in killing Sarah Conner the first time rather than continuing to try many movies later! lol

    Like every new technology.
Students and hobbyists are free to build it, then it is taken, locked down and controlled by governments.

The next step will be putting some form of weapon on it because of a lucrative U.S. military contract worth BILLIONS. The step after that is for the mass production of these machine so that they are included into ground troops standard field kits. Next, upgrading all computerized weapons and military satellites with the Mini Cheetah data processing programs (because it’s efficient). Then, connecting the machines to a network set up with a AI to help process info, because it’s just too much for the ground grunts to coordinate. Next, the machines become self aware. Lastly, humans become an endangered species.

I think the reason why this type of running looks unnatural to us is because animals evolutionarily optimized running so that their heads stay stable for better vision and balance, and preventing the brain from constantly shaking, none of which apply to the Cheetah robot.
