Hopefully it will have haptic feedback and 4k resolution to beat the competition – PSVR2

    • Ross

      September 27, 2022 at 4:02 pm

They’re aimed at different markets. However the quest 3 will need to get close to psvr2. Still psvr2 will need ps5 and quest will be stand alone.

“The Oculus”was 500 times cooler of a name than meta quest I will never understand why they changed it so stupid

    • Cautious X0

      September 27, 2022 at 8:00 pm

Because they somehow think a name change will somehow make the public forget all the dogshit FB has done over the years. Unifying the brand under Meta isn’t surprising since they viewed Oculus as the future

    • The Gadget Guru

      September 27, 2022 at 8:09 pm

@Cautious X0 right that’s actually how the name meta came about

      September 27, 2022 at 11:51 pm

@Llamu It is not a separate company. Oculus was bought by meta and is now integerated into the meta corporation. They can call it whatever they want. If meta wants to it might change the name of whatsapp into something line “metachat” as well.

I’ll stick to the psvr 2 to play real games rather than a bunch of crappy shovelware

As long as “Meta” Facebook is behind those headsets its future is gloom , they have amazing people working on developing their hardware but the software is always going to be about tracking the users and extracting as much information they can like information vampires no thank you.

VR needs an HDR panel. Well, it needs a lot more things but I’m surprised no one has made a headset with HDR.

    • Michael Sondag

      September 27, 2022 at 7:42 pm

PSVR2 that is coming out early 2023 has HDR.

    • Ren

      September 27, 2022 at 8:25 pm

simple most companies are moving towards standalone headsets. HDR takes way more battery to run that’s likely a large factor. Which is why the PSVR2 which is a wired headset and thus it has HDR.

    • Rockovissi

      September 28, 2022 at 11:12 am

@Ren Really? HDR takes up more battery life? I can’t imagine that would drain the battery faster. How about a wireless headset that only does wireless video processing? Problem solved.

    • Rockovissi

      September 28, 2022 at 11:13 am

@Michael Sondag Leave it to Sony.

    • Ren

      September 28, 2022 at 3:54 pm

@Rockovissi That’s not how it works the headset still has to do all the tracking processing of the headset and controllers. Headsets that have a pc do all the processing and then stream it to the headset already exist. The Quest can do that that doesn’t change the fact that the screens take battery to run. And still the headset needs to decode the video stream and send tracking data to the pc in real time. And HRD takes more battery bc Pushing the extra brightness on the screens takes more power.

    • Rockovissi

      September 28, 2022 at 5:40 pm

@Ren Yeah I know how it works. I thought that was assumed as part of a VR headset. I have a Rift CV1. I get it. HDR isn’t going to drain the battery that much more than what’s already going on. An OLED panel with HDR would work. Have the option to plug it into a PC.

Prices aren’t ramping up they’ve always been high the index is 1k. Pimax is expensive first gen Vr was expensive. What happened is quest dropped the price for entry. Not the other way around.

If it’s still called a headset, it’s not gonna become mainstream.
It should be as light as wearing glasses

  17. Mason Dixon Piper

    September 27, 2022 at 9:31 pm

My question as a developer, will Quest Pro allow outdoor use? AR integration with the real world could open up possibilities of AI and ML to identify trees, leaves, mushrooms and more. I really hope it’s something worth dev’n on.

    • david park

      September 27, 2022 at 10:42 pm

I mean I’m sure you could but I don’t think many people are walking down the street wearing that

    • The Gadget Guru

      September 28, 2022 at 3:27 am

@david park agreed well put I mean unless they’re similar to smart glasses or Google glass then yeah

      September 28, 2022 at 10:40 pm

I know the quest 2 shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight as it will wreck the lens, not sure if the pro will be the same story. But like others mentioned I rather not use it in a public setting haha

    • The Gadget Guru

      September 28, 2022 at 11:29 pm

@Phu Phillip Trinh yup agreed I think the pro will be the same way I’d imagine but with pancake lenses

I’m going to wait and see what Apple comes out with, I would like to upgrade my vr headset and don’t want to buy an expensive computer just to upgrade it and don’t like using wires. It would be nice to drop Facebook/meta all together

    • Dusty Goodz

      September 28, 2022 at 12:42 pm

      Completely agree with you

    • Kazy

      September 28, 2022 at 4:43 pm

Apple’s *is* going to be an expensive computer. Though I’m interested if they’ll make it a head-mounted macbook, with the M1/M2.

  20. Arien Van Stralen

    September 27, 2022 at 10:37 pm

Yeah it’s ridiculous how you can change the name of a product after it’s been released. But…I see how they’re trying to put everything under this one brand.

  21. Matthew

Why am I reminded of Lt. Barclay’s bout with “holo-diction” every time I hear about VR?

  22. MadPropzBaller

    September 28, 2022 at 12:15 am

What I want to know is if Quest Pro will have an uncompressed wired solution for PCVR, that would make me buy it day one.

    • Tommy Panigale

      September 28, 2022 at 6:21 pm

      Doubtful

    • MadPropzBaller

      September 28, 2022 at 6:46 pm

@Tommy Panigale considering the high price it would be kinda wild if it’s not implemented.

  23. David Tully

    September 28, 2022 at 3:06 am

Why would anyone want this? Like, give me a lo-res rendering of a business meeting? Whyyyyy?

  24. Kyle R

    September 28, 2022 at 4:53 am

No matter how good these are, the truth is that VR won’t become mainstream until Apple releases their VR headset.

    • Dusty Goodz

      September 28, 2022 at 12:46 pm

@T K Apple will be releasing their headset next year and glasses in the next few years or sooner. I truly think Apple’s VR headset will be a game changer for years to come.

the ability to see your eye and face tracking when you see advertisements is a game changer, they will want that data so bad

    • Antony

      September 28, 2022 at 5:52 pm

This is the real reason they’re pushing this tech. Perhaps not even just when you see ads, but anything. Being able to analyse your emotional responses to stimulation with such precision is a data company’s wet dream.

The eye contact and improved social presenceis just a Trojan horse.
