It’s the only $500 VR Headset.

I’m going with Apple 🍎. Mark has already lost 13.7 billion dollars and counting within last than two years. The required Facebook account was the nail in the coffin for oculist
Oh no wait I mean quest 😅. It was ambitious for sure, but the execution was horrible. Mark is out of touch with the normal person, in aspect of there daily lives. Especially now in these times with inflation, etc..
Metaverse is nowhere near where it needs to be to be a success. If mark wants the Metaverse to be the matrix, we do not have the technology yet, and that’s the truth. It is an absolute joke. For example VR chat 💬 that is a game! Performs extremely better! you can do basically everything you can do in the “ meta-verse” in VR Chat extremely better, than A Platform like the Metaverse!
Why do you think it’s failing? Because no one wants to be a part of it. Also, for context on I am software engineer, programmer, and game developer 👨🏻‍💻
    Enjoy your day.

You do know that the Apple Reality Pro will be 3000$ ?

      June 2, 2023 at 4:54 pm

You’re going with Apple instead of the cheapest viable headset because Zuckerberg is out of touch with inflation?

Is this really where tech is heading? Why not invest resources into developing ways where the layman can create apps and programs for their daily lives or even to make money from it.

    • Lucians_Sword

      June 2, 2023 at 3:28 pm

we already have that just go look its not hard to learn how to code online

    • ApeWithPants

      June 2, 2023 at 5:53 pm

You can do that now with mobile devices.

There will always br a bleeding edge of consumer tech that isn’t quite to a place that everyday people can develop on it. VR/AR is one of those spaces right now. The tooling is getting better and easier to use, but it’s still difficult to work with.

Hi everyone, i have a question?, do i need a PC to play Half Life Alyx in the new Meta Quest 3?, i have the Meta Quest 2 but i can not play Half Life Alyx because i do not have a PC. And maybe with the new Meta Quest 3 you do no need a PC to play it. Thank you.

    • Hayden Fox

      June 2, 2023 at 5:01 pm

This won’t be the case anytime soon, you’ll need a gaming pc if you want alyx

Ive been waiting for this for awhile. It’s not an incredible upgrade, but it is a step in the right direction in a lot of ways.

    • MasTommy

      June 2, 2023 at 6:49 pm

I think this is incredible. Pancake lens itself is an expensive upgrade, and made the headset feels lighter. Full color pass through opens a whole other dimension for MR apps.. Controller without the ring? No more broken rings.. Double gpu power? That’s the icing on the cake

Wow, they raised the price of Q2 in the 2nd half of last year just to revert it back now. Wtf Meta?!

  11. Amazing Day

Quest 3 is expensive but I’m still buying it. Because I want the mixed reality and pancake lenses. And that better performance

Yeah I return my quest 2 when I heard the 3 was coming out that and I hated the lens on the quest 2… I like the non tethered part but the lens blur and funky white smeared rays… Was a no go for me… Hopefully the quest 3 has better lens…

  13. cherubino95

    June 2, 2023 at 4:33 pm

As someone who owns a Quest 2 & Valve index. I can say this headset will be very good. It might even make me switch back to quest but I’ll wait for the reviews 1st. The Index still the best headset on the market overall its just made soo well . But the quest does have better colors & such with the lens . This will be very good for the price I can see that though. & Respect for Meta not giving up on the Quest 2! They are overclocking them with a update soon and making them better & cheaper so more people can get into VR!

    June 2, 2023 at 5:07 pm

Once you get your hands on it can you please do a quest 3 vs quest pro comparison? I understand the main difference but more interested in the color passthrough comparison and the processing power.

From that hands on with the q3 it was mentioned that texts could be read through the q3’s color passthrough. This isnt quite as possible on the pro. Very curious to know if the 3 is better than the pro in those regards. Thanks.

Actually, the Quest 2 was $300 dollars than increased to $400 so it wasn’t the original price as stated in this video. This headset is actually $200 more than what the Quest 2 was when it released.

      June 3, 2023 at 9:17 am

Quest 2 for $300 felt like I gain too much more than what I paid for. If you actually spend time playing good games on it and learn how vr really offer. You will realize flatscreen already reach its 100% limit decade ago while VR only showcase 1% of its true strength which is already decent right now. Never in my life that I have praised a technology and I’m super picky when it comes to new tech unless is really good.

    June 2, 2023 at 9:53 pm

@$1000, the Pro is better than the $500 Q3 because of face/eye tracking alone…

    • ilikestuff

      June 3, 2023 at 5:14 am

no, Quest Pro has a weaker chipset XR2 Gen 1+ while Quest 3 has XR2 Gen 2.
The reason Pro is $1500 is because it’s a dev kit, an enterprise headset, not made for you and me but for other companies so it’s not sold at loss.

    • Jdb

      June 3, 2023 at 11:12 am

Pro has weaker chipset as well as lower resolution lenses. If your main VR interest is gaming then the Quest 3 is probably the better choice, regardless of price.

The Pro is obviously better for other use cases though

  30. SecretOfMonkeyIsland

    June 3, 2023 at 4:48 am

The Quest 2 was successfull originally due to its 2020 £300 price point, it was so cheap it was low risk to give it a try £500 not so much. Quest 2 graphics now look very dated, so id be requiring some degree of improvement here on the new model.

  31. Supersymmetry

    June 3, 2023 at 6:31 am

Even Apple just repackage the components used in the iPhone like 120Hz display and triple lens HDR camera systems, etc, into a XR headset which can easily out perform Quest 3. If Apple headset can match PSVR 2 features, the position of Quest 3 will be something like what Nintendo Switch currently occupied. However, with Apple Watch Ultra emphasis outdoor use, Apple might position the headset as the ultimate action camera powered by Apple Maps instead of focusing on indoors use like the current VR headsets. The key question next would be how to power such feature rich but power hungry device.

  32. Tom Gillotti

    June 3, 2023 at 7:40 am

When I bought the original Vive headset in 2016 I said we were another 5-10 years from being where VR needed to be for mass market adoption and to achieve all of the things that would make it desirable for more users. I still think we’re closer to achieving that within the next 2-3 years, but I’m happy to see that VR has continued to grow and evolve. I look forward to seeing where it is 5+ years from now.

Quest 2 is the best $300 ever that nothing came close of what it offered for such price range. Quest 3 for $500 of the same features like Quest 3 with some upgrades seems like no much different

I already made my PSVR 2 purchase. But I do like that the Quest 3 is fully compatible with Quest 2 software. I might consider buying it because I like that it doesn’t require a beefy PC setup or a console.

    • Jdb

      June 3, 2023 at 11:09 am

I thought I’d be able to cope with the chord on the PSVR2 but the reality is it’s a big nuisance for me. I always notice it. I don’t have the space or circumstances to set up any sort of pulley system so I’ll probably sell my PSVR2 for the Quest 3 when it launches

What games do that to you?

    • J

      June 3, 2023 at 12:07 pm

@Johnny K The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners and Red Matters 2. But also games in the Metaverse and RecRoom where I’m floating instead of point and click movements.

    • Elijah

      June 3, 2023 at 10:48 pm

ofc its going yo make you nauseous you just have to train your “vr legs”

    • Johnny K

      June 3, 2023 at 11:21 pm

@J Yup, that will happen and used to happen to me all the time too. But eventually you will get over it. Games where you’re standing stationary in RL but moving in VR can really mess with your mind and result in nausea. But if that happens, take a break for 15 or so mins or until you’re feeling fine and try it again. I read somewhere that trying to force yourself to keep going despite the nausea can actually be a really bad idea because after a while you can start associating VR with nausea, and you definitely don’t want that. Take it easy, take your time, and eventually you’ll grow your VR legs like Elijah wrote above.

Why am I not surprised that CNET did not even complain about the 500 price even once? PSVR2 that is offering several times better performance and features for almost the same price and was severely critiqued for being so expensive!!

  55. Emeka Adibe

    June 4, 2023 at 5:25 pm

    Well put together. Well said.
I still believe that for good graphics, in other words, for full graphics capabilities, it will still require to have a machine behind it like a gaming PC which some of us are already doing with the Quest 2 using a link cable. I just don’t see Quest 3 being much different from the Quest 2 other than the fact that its sharper and clearer and has faster processing power. It’s still a stand alone device so it’s going to need that machine like a gaming PC to get the best out of it just like PSVR2 needs the PS5 to even work.
On these stand alone devices, the graphics cards, the processors, and the memory on the gaming PCs make a world of difference. I honestly feel like if I end up not upgrading to the Quest 3, I might not be missing anything because of PCVR on my Quest 2.
