Is adult content more clearer? Asking for a friend… 🧐

    Great review Scott!!!
I wish the front panel was prettier… the camera holes are just not great looking!
A black /dark grey version would have been better (like the Original Quest).
I think it’s always the issue with Meta when they released a new Quest, their ecosystems or apps are not ready… Quest 2 was released with not much new apps / os features versus Quest 1 (aside being a better hardware) … When Quest Pro was released, it was the same… And now with Quest 3, same!
Maybe Meta should also promote or do like google or apple with the OS update… big releases! And have one tied with the new hardware too!

it’s true, the new iOS 17 release felt HUGE. Meta could learn from that, and generate a lot of excitement with new features, rather than just improved specs.

      October 9, 2023 at 4:21 pm

@joelface I agree… we barely hear from the Quest OS updates… The new Quest 3 should have been released with many features from the OS tied to the headset… Like the iPhone 15 is tied to iOS 17.

I’m excited to see what updates will it get down the road.

Meta should consider bone conduction for hearing the sound of virtual world.

I would like to see Cnet do a livestream with the Virtual Reality play a few games give people some taste of what it is like.

Mixed reality is not of much use to me. I want to ESCAPE reality for a while when I put my headset on. I would guess most people are the same. Mixed games may be fun for a few minutes, but putting the camera money into eye tracking or a better display would be preferred.
Also, Zenni is offering prescription lenses for this for 50 bucks US.

Yup, given the choice between colour paasthrough or an OLED screen, I’d take the latter in a heartbeat. Pretty sure the vast majority would.

How does the image compare to the X-real AR glasses? My primary use case would be watching TV shows and movies in it (along with Walkabout mini golf and Demeo). I’m wondering if I should upgrade.

Ive been a vr guy since the q1 and i gladly got a quest 2. However i haven’t seen vr grow enough have and i dont see big problems like motion sickness being solved. At $500 im passing.

Motion sickness can’t be solved sadly

    • Some Knucklehead

      October 9, 2023 at 4:59 pm

Motion sickness can be reduced the more accurate it gets, but anything causing motion sickness in real life will be replicated.
If motion can be replicated by moving your body with motion rigs & treadmills, it will reduce the mismatch between body & brain.

Since Facebook bought Oculus, it all went downhill and this just proves it. This device shouldnt represent what VR is all about.. wich for Meta seems to be selling a product in parts and without any effort put into it.

      October 9, 2023 at 5:54 pm

Hate to break it to you, but Facebook saved Oculus. Without Facebook, Oculus would have likely run out of money and followed Magic Leap’s fate.

If it wasn’t limited to the PS5, for the price, the PSVR2 is prolly still the best/

    • joelface

      October 9, 2023 at 4:13 pm

PSVR2 has a huge advantage in that it can be a lot like a PC VR headset, and the eye tracking further boosts its abilities. It’s FAR more powerful than the Quest 3 as a result. BUT, it is also a much more limited experience, not only because of the tether, but also because it can only play games specifically made for it and approved and sold by Sony. If Sony had a lot of big 1st party games coming out for it, OR if most new games were forced to have a VR mode, then I’d definitely buy it. But as I feared, a lot of the new games don’t really jump out at me, and my non-gaming VR interests are completely ignored. The first party support from Sony is pretty absent, and the big name game Half-Life Alyx hasn’t been announced… makes you wonder JUST how seriously Sony is taking the PSVR2’s success. Quest feels a lot more wide-open, I think, though I’d really like it to be even MORE wide-open.

    • SpiderLuke

      October 9, 2023 at 5:31 pm

I have PSVR2 and while I like it, it’s very easy to slip into blurriness unless you mod the head strap to hold the sweet spot. Still, nothing beats pancake lenses clarity. That said I opted for some of the larger experiences and I’m taking a gamble that Sony might have some unique stuff, though I’m a little worried there. I do want a meta quest though eventually for some of the smaller experiences wire free and crisp clear, as well as for PC VR and playing with other friends that have Meta Quests.

My complaints are the price and the battery life. Would be nice if price was closer to $300 and battery life was an hour or two longer

      October 9, 2023 at 2:45 pm

It’s already one of the cheapest headset right now and also the greatest and you want it cheaper? 500 is more than enough

    • Kyle Klmondwa

      October 9, 2023 at 3:23 pm

$70 USD for a strap that cost $5 USD in materials LMAO…Well done Zuck, you’re taking the fleecing to APPLE tier limits.

    • Some Knucklehead

      October 9, 2023 at 4:27 pm

@Kyle KlmondwaWell I agree the accessory pricing is right out of Apple’s playbook.
      🫰🤑💰
Fortunately most reviewers are saying the headstrap it comes with is comfortable & the charging dock is unnecessary.

yeah the software is what makes me pause. I can play COD, Doom Eternal, Bioshock, Borderlands on a switch, ps4, Xbox one X, but not a Quest 3? Where are the real AAA games that are 20 years old? Assassin’s Creed is a decent start but they’re just waaaay behind there. If it can run that Assassin’s Creed game at the fidelity we’re seeing, that means most any AAA game is possible. They’re just not committed to it.
