Ghost in the Shell has a lot of subplots that revolve around recorded images from cybernetic eyes. For instance there’s a terrorist called The Laughing Man who hacks the eyes of the people around him to scramble his face so noone can see him when he commits crimes. I think your eyes getting hacked is more terrifying than the idea of camcorder eyes on it’s own 😱

1:21 “Sight, is the most…”
No, that is a misconception. Your sense of smell is the most primal sense, and is the most personal and powerful. Go ahead and name the smells that move you. Try to do it by naming the smell instead of the object that gives off the smell. I will wait.
We don’t have names for smells, no words to describe the scent independent of the source of the scent. That is why you don’t often consciously think of the importance of the sense of smell. Its easy to name what you see, that is why you think of sight. But your sense of smell recalls memory more strongly, impacts your emotions more strongly and is the first and most important sense chronologically speaking as far as evolution goes.
Snoop
March 17, 2021 at 4:46 pm
Smell can be important and overall all senses are as imoortant as the other as far as our revolution goes…otherwise we wouldnt have it. But the sense of a healthy person is definitely not smell. Just ask yourself the questions which sense you would remove. Maybe you have a strong emotional connection to smell but sight is kinda unbeatable for most people. You will never smell some things like clouds ever in your life but see them every day.
Thikosan
March 17, 2021 at 5:39 pm
Of course smell is the most primal of the senses, which was needed especially to warn ourselves about poisonous food, but our way to communicate and live life in general has drastically changed.
You will remember more often a scene you really liked of a movie, you’ll remember more often a certain sound that reminds you of a certain music, you’ll remember more often the taste of a certain food and not even think about how it smelled.
The smell memory connection still works better than our other senses, but it happens less and less often nowadays.
We’re leading in a society sight-based and odorelss, we do everything with our sight and try to correct it with glasses if it doesn’t work properly. We ain’t trying to correct our smell, because we don’t need it anymore.
Just think about when you’re going to work everyday or doing some other activity: you don’t care about smells and in fact most of the time you spend your time in odorless places.
If I had any kind of smell problem, I wouldn’t even bother trying to correct it somehow, compared to other senses and I also don’t have many strong memories bound to certain kind of smells.

Technology can be an amazing tool for amputees and these stories are very inspiring, but robots are robots. They are not humans, so I find it really weird to brush up on robots that replicate human faces IMO, that’s trans-humanism, which is far different then devices for amputees.

‘ A cyborg manifesto’ by Haraway, brings great a theory about humans and machines, and how we have integrated technology in us in so many ways. Our phones for example, is a technological extension of us, and it will be fascinating to see how our brains will have adapted centuries down the line.

I mean, look at society. People have their phones, their cars, their televisions, their lawn mowers, etc.. it’d just be more efficient to integrate it fully w/ the body. Imagine, a phone/watch downloaded into, say, your forearm. You’d never lose it!
Dedu Tedy
March 19, 2021 at 6:26 am
@Daniel Baylis dude… Modifying yourself to be integrated with your fridge or phone is not the point… You won’t be using those anymore, they will just stick an antenna up your…and you’re good to go 😅

This empathy towards the inanimate objects will give rise to skynet.
And they will not have robots that are devoid of expressions,
actually the opposite,
they will have them take advantage of this human bias.
