Dang, seeing Jared on a WIRED video was definitely not on my 2026 Bingo list!

If only all mechanics are this friendly and patient 😭🙏

He’s a blessing in the sea of hyper-masc “ask a question and you’ve offended 3 of their generations” mechanics out there

Its hard to be patient in customer service industries. Especially when the average customer has no idea how the product works

7:40 i’m surprised he didn’t point out. The fact that diesel pumps have a wider nozzle than regular gas and it won’t even fit in your gas hole. (Huh huh huh gas hole) So it’s very difficult to physically pump diesel gas in a regular gasoline vehicle.

You’d be shocked to learn how stupid some people are lol.

Just because it doesn’t fit won’t mean they won’t just hold it….

With modern direct-inject diesel engines it shouldn’t be such a catastrophic mistake to fill in gasoline: because fuel is injected just at the point, when combustion is desired, it should not matter that much that gasoline ignites much easier than diesel. To be honest I’ve got no practical experience in the matter, but in theory it should not matter with a direct inject engine (in this case its probably even worse the other way round: because diesel has a higher viscosity and direct inject valves are extremely narrow the diesel might clog a gasoline injector…)

bmw dealership: oh, the 10 dollar electric motor for the electronic steering wheel position adjustment is seized? that’ll be a 4K job parts + labor to replace the whole steering rack 🌈

and when still in the warranty period they do indeed replace the whole steering rack when this happens. then they wonder why chinese brands are cheaper omg.

on reliability of new vs old cars, i think we perfected reliability in the mid 2000’s. lately, i’m seeing a lot of failed headgaskets across different makes and models. the smaller engines are made of thinner castings and they are not as robust. car manufacturers are pressured by the EPA to get lower emissions. that has become their new focus instead of reliability.

One of the best things I’ve ever bought was an air compressor that plugs into a cigarette lighter and reads tire pressure. I think it was like $40. When the tire pressure light comes on, I just bust it out and top up all my tires and I’m ready to go

putting dirt on mid 2000s Mercedes name! thats okay, makes parts cheaper for my 08 c300. thankfully just after the balance shaft issue. they earned their reputation. get yourself a good one and keep it maintained, and it will keep a smile on your face.

I drove a diesel in highschool (isuzu I-mark), i remember once filling it up and thinking ‘hmm, i do like the smell of gasoline… WAIT A MINUTE’ luckily me catching that saved my car, got it towed to the mechanics who chuckled at me and noted it was very good i didn’t try to start it

listening to the long list of fluid changes makes me glad i bought an EV. no transmission, no engine, breaks last for EVER cause you rarely use them, tires last 60k+ miles, handles better, is safer, and catches fire less than gas cars.
I’ll never go back to an ICE vehicle.

As someone who sells trans transmission parts, please change your transmission fluid every 60k miles! those valve body filters fill up quick, especially on silverados. And if you change it and it seemed clogged, change the torque converter bc its probably shaving metal!!!!

Yellow wrench can mean a lot of different things lol. On some newer Fords, that’s a transmission fault, for example, not an oil change lol.

12:04 this is so funny to me. One time a customer drove into the service drive and I just happened to be there when my advisor was checking it in. He said “Yeah i think my exhaust fell off.” Car sounded quiet at first. I asked him to rev it a bit and heard an intake leak. Popped the hood and the airbox was not secured. Fixed it immediately and he was pretty shocked 😂
