Once we understand the “programming language” of the brain, do you think we would ever get to a point where we can just download information straight to our memories (i.e. The Matrix)?

100% of the time I get sleep paralysis is when I am sleeping on my back slightly propped up with my head straight (as in looking at the ceiling), but I don’t get paralysis 100% of the time I sleep this way? It has happened frequently enough to where if I need to sleep propped up I’ll turn my head to either side and lay in a way that’s in between being flat on my back and on either side.. For some reason it seems to have helped me so I just thought I’d share 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m normally a stomach sleeper but I found out that I prop myself up on my elbows and do the weird head banging thing (think sleepy teenager nodding off at their desk and jerking their head back up just before they do a full on face plant) for hours at a time and then wake up with an insane kink in my neck and a splitting headache…

Just also wanna throw out there that reoccurent sleep paralysis can be also be an indicator of an underlying sleep disorder such as Narcolepsy (especially if you have other symptoms such as daytime sleepiness, hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations etc.) Not a neuroscientist, just a girl diagnosed with Narcolepsy at 21 after ten years of sleep paralysis.

I love this video! Regarding the person claiming people with ADHD/ADD have shorter lifespans, as someone who was diagnosed with ADHD/ADD as an adult (28) and is autistic (high functional) no doctors, psychologist, nurses I have meet over the last two years have not mentioned anything about shorter lifespans. So with all do respect, fear mongering is not okay. Perhaps the person in question ment well but should have perhaps google it first…

🤣 Capgrass syndrome is like the cops using undercovers to pose as people a target fell out of touch with and look similarly as an in to their targets inner circle. I call this the “camp wakawaka” strategy. They used it in that Miley Cyrus undercover cop movie.

I’m sick of this psychological theory when it comes to syndromes like chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Not every person who has one of these syndromes will have a psychological component. Sometimes it is only environmental or physiological. Just because the medical field hasn’t come up with a specialized test to confirm diagnosis officially doesn’t mean they should throw out their theories as fact. If we are going to just go by opinions I’d say that anyone who has a history of depression that later comes down with CFS or FMS and is solely helped by say antidepressants probably had depression all along and it just advanced into a physical manifestation. People like me with no history of depression or anxiety with a diagnosis of CFS and FMS usually had an accident/injury of some kind. We don’t usually respond the same as the people with the same diagnosis that have a history of depression. Meanwhile, half the medical community still thinks there are no such disorders. That they are made up especially because it affects more women than men. Makes me want to break their knees and say well the pain is all in your head. I mean it technically is soooo no pain meds for you. Have some antidepressants for those broken knees.

Sheldon : Amy, you need to wrap it up quickly because we have to shoot another episode of ‘Fun with Flags’ which is much more interesting than you babbling about neuroscience.

Amy : Are you sure that neuroscience is babble and not Fun with Flags?

Sheldon: Oh Amy, I never babble. Whatever I say is pure gold and everyone should take my words and engrave them on every building in the world!

Mayim, is it possible that what we call deja vu is a glitch in memory storage that prints information in both short term and long term memory simultaneously, giving the impression that this has already been imput, therefore it must have been done before? Could it be an example of false memory? Yes, I do have way too much time on my hands… But it’s always now, right?

I think neurodiverse people are born as they are, and those psychiatric disorders have environmental factors to them, you only have genetic tendencies to develop them but the environment is the main factor to make it happen. To the contrary, neurodiverse people are born the way they are, environment plays no role to it despite changing their already existing behaviors,, so I think this could be a good classification.

For the sleep disorder one: ditching electronics an hour before bed also helps! Screens often use blue light which can mess with your sleep rhythm. So for an hour before going to sleep, do something like read or stretch or something else that doesn’t involve screens

Police lights can absolutely cause seizures in photosensitive Epilepsy. My daughter deals with it by covering one eye. Her neurologist suggested this. Its helps break up the light entering her eyes. So far it has been a great trick

I have several conditions that cause disturbed sleep & trouble getting to sleep and I recently got a weighted blanket & it’s really helped. My husband has a stressful job which affects his sleep & he’s found a weighted blanket has helped him too. You can get great ones for a reasonable price(like £25 instead of £100+) on eBay 🙂

Police lights do absolutely trigger seizures in photosensitive epileptics, being one myself. And to answer the question, how do we handle police lights? The answer is that we don’t lol. Its illegal to drive (in my state) with an untreated seizure disorder and my husband just says “flashy” so I can bury my face in my hands and avoid seizing during a car ride

How brave she is to tell the truth about science, rather than create clickbait answers. Most of neuroscience isn’t click-y, and most answers to solving neurological issues in humans isn’t either. I treat neurological disorders in children. No miracles for most of these kids (except SMA1 and some brain surgeries), just science-based treatment. Thanks Mayim!
