Does being diabetic really increase your carbon footprint by 3x? @8:30 It sounds like an audience member says “no” in response right afterwards. Needles and stuff are made of plastic but 3x does seem high to me.

      February 1, 2024 at 4:41 pm

Add other medical supports and transpiration, and that number is not unrealistic. I work in a diabetic support industry and the numbers are staggering and growing.

I think in part it is because delivery of healthcare is not hybrid and leads to a lot of pointless transport.

@@AlbertSchram great observation and that is actually the space I work in. Preventative, digital and remote patient monitoring. While the CFP of digitalization is not zero, it is significantly less.

If students use AI in colleges and universities, how can we be sure that they practice integrity?

    • @AlbertSchram

      February 1, 2024 at 5:29 pm

You need to review all assessment policies, not hunting down students but engaging with them and made AI work for all, ethically and productively.

    • @WeylandLabs

      February 1, 2024 at 5:50 pm

      That’s actually easy to answer.

Our Western way of teaching and education is flawed and has been flawed for a long time now.

I would say our education systems needs to be updated. It’s not how students can keep their integrity, it’s about how students can learn faster and more efficiently.

You might might not understand what I’m saying right now. But you will soon…

    • @Ribberflavenous

      February 1, 2024 at 7:09 pm

Universities are going to start teaching integrity again?! I thought they shut down all those lib arts classes like philosophy and humanities.

    • @Madillusionist

      February 1, 2024 at 8:47 pm

AI is just another tool like the calculator. You still need to give it the right input to give you the right answer.

    • @WeylandLabs

      February 1, 2024 at 9:32 pm

@Madillusionist  as I agree, it’s a bit more complex than that now. Ai is a tool right now, but has and will have the power to become more than we have ever asked for.

It will eventually have every answer in human history. It will eventually change the landscape of world governments. I’m an optimist, though I may be wrong, but I feel I’m not.

As the fourth Industrial Revolution, there will be sectors of the population that are left behind, the same sectors as the last couple IRs. Why must we accept the supremacy of these CEOs when they do nothing but pull up ladders behind themselves and leave out women, people of color etc. Forget Skynet, income inequality is the problem of our age and being ok with business as usual is less than our future deserves. Do better! We deserve better! It’s time to raise more boats!

  7. @nerd26373

    February 1, 2024 at 5:38 pm

Leadership has changed dramatically. With the use of AI, everything seems a lot more artificially manufactured.

  8. @WeylandLabs

    February 1, 2024 at 5:54 pm

It’s pretty funny how people still try to integrate ai into our flawed systems instead of having ai fix the systems that we can integrate with.

Look at it from another perspective.

  9. @Ribberflavenous

    February 1, 2024 at 7:05 pm

We will do things, make mistakes, learn, adjust, rinse, repeat. This has been the development cycle of every breakthrough. The concern I have is setting guardrails that protect against disaster without strangling exploration.

I remember the Toll Collectors… when the EZPass was created, people lost their minds cause they were going to lose that BORING 4SS Job!!! AI if created correctly and not weaponized to target us or lie to us or SkyNet us, then we should be fine.

The future is going to be alright.

  23. @diskycn

    February 2, 2024 at 3:19 pm

I think he just over simplified the possible threatens of AI as well as the minds of AI scientists and leader CEOs. It is inappropriate to compare AI to the concerns some people had about mobile phones at the time, it’s like comparing nuclear weapons to daggers. Even if humanity eventually manages to control the potential risks of AI effectively, current caution is extremely necessary.

    What’s the meaning of “TED”?

  32. @Nayura-yy5qu

    February 7, 2024 at 8:10 pm

I am Japanese and I am surprised at the fear many westerners have of AI.
To me, so far, AI is just a useful tool.
Some people are worried that it will take away their jobs.
I feel there is a difference in the concept of the word “work” between Westerners and Japanese.
If work is simply viewed as labor to earn money, and only tasks are performed as given, they will be replaced by AI.
However, work is first of all a service to others and a means of self-discipline.
    There is no right answer.
    Therefore, there is no end.
At the moment, AI cannot understand such an abstract concept, and it probably never will.
If and when technological innovation advances and AI becomes that capable, I will gracefully look up to AI as a master and learn from it.
If it makes my life richer, I have no problem at all.

I think I’ll need to watch it again, theres’ a lot of food for thoughts… but I feel that not enough has been said on the topic of the influence of AI on decision making
