Its hilarious that CNET sent the one guy who needs glasses and refuses to put on contacts to go and demo the vr headsets. These “hands on” videos are terrible.

January 6, 2023 at 9:57 pm
VR is light years away from being “great”. Everything we get year over year is pure trash.
I imagine the future in VR taking over gaming consoles along with PC, but this is “deep” into the future.
We haven’t come far from when I first tried VR about 25yrs ago.
It’s for sure better and easy to get, but it’s no where close to where it “needs” to be in order for it to become a part of your daily life.
The same goes for AR, but that at least seems more feasible in the near future.
I’d say somewhere around 2040+ will we be using VR like it was always intended to.
Until then, it’s just paper weight.

This has to be comment bait, have you tried any high end VR? Or even a Quest?
Fluorine, Uranium, Carbon, Potassium
January 6, 2023 at 10:41 pm
@Desharr Saddler it is bait, home VR today is leaps and bounds ahead of commercial VR that I tried 15 years ago. No one would ever make a comment like that unless they are trolling.

January 6, 2023 at 10:53 pm
@JPer Trolling around today ?
In my opinion the VR industry made huge progress in the last 5 years and todays high-end products deliver absolutely fantastic experiences.
Newest VR headset screens and lenses offer great picture quality and deliver pictures as clear and crisp as monitors on your desktop… so what exactly are you talking of ?
Probably the HTC Vive ( 1st generation ) was your last VR Headset experience.
Try to get hands on the newest Pimax Crystal and you will change your opinion the second you put it on your head.
There is soo much real good VR content too, games, education, travel, creative art … it´s not comparable to software from 25 years ago…. Mr. Dinosaur !

January 6, 2023 at 10:17 pm
1920×1920 isn’t low res. 90Hz is industry standard.
Let's Go Brandon
January 6, 2023 at 10:25 pm
@VerseGen2 1920 isnt low res for ppl with bad vision
even cheappo Quest2 has 120hz, Index is 144hz, upcoming Crystal is 165hz, MeganeX is 120hz
you’ll see sales numbers. hope HTC will recover from this

Sucks that it’s just outside your prescription. But I think the adjustable dials are a great idea and the way to go for more expensive headsets. That way if I’m sharing with another nearsighted person, they can adjust the dial and still use it without glasses for max immersion

I feel like unless you want what premium features it has to offer, you just can’t beat the Quest 2. It’s even got the same chip powering the Vive XR. As much as I hate the Meta name and crap, they do have some great software on their platform and performance no different to others. If anything now they got a Quest Pro with a newer chip, Meta will likely take the lead.

Yes, but other will start to close in. Like psvr 2 for example. It will be a much tighter race and that’s good.

Had VR in 2018 gave me a headache got rid of it the same week I prefer 3d headset which is not all around me like VR is headset which is one big hdtv screen that’s all it is with 3d capabilities for movies & games that support 3d while everything else 2D also feel no different from sitting in a movie theater playing game on a theater size screen or watching a movie on a theater size screen

There’s an absolutely HUGE percentage of people that need vision correction. I don’t know why companies have largely ignored this. I’m glad I was able to get prescription inserts for the Quest 2 though.

VR is like 3D movies, just keep pushing it down our throat… but it will never be big. Just a small niche in the corner.

Prescription inserts are the best option. Once they are in you never have to mess with them again. You just take off your glasses and put your headset on.

I dont understand the hype whats the fov? Those small lenses dont look impressive i dont care what other tech it has if it doesnt have the basic things for a good experience as good or better than other headsets ill pass just like i did when the flow was released. This really seems not much better than the flow to me
Joe Baron
January 8, 2023 at 1:02 am
I know VR is still in a relatively primitive state to its potential, but I would say it’s strongly in the interest of any VR hardware maker to cater for as wider prescription range as they possibly can given how much people’s eyesight varies … even without glasses! After all, the eyes are the main window as to how immersive this stuff can feel to the brain.

“Fix this i don’t want to wear contacts”
🤷🏼♂️ there is a solution available you don’t want to use it, too bad.
