As reality gets more and more virtual, we cry out for the experience of meeting something in the flesh, says Pico Iyer. We long to meet our global neighbors in person, down the street and maybe even across the ocean. Drawing on more than four decades of experience as a global traveler, Pico explains how you can shed preconceived notions of a place and, perhaps more importantly, see your own place in the world with utterly fresh and appreciative eyes.

Your climate change hysteria is a religion. And it hurts you.

@freesk8 The same with your problems but it is felt more widely by many others.
So now you are calling the truth a rekigion?

@Peter Weller If you can question it, it is a science. If you can not question it, it is a religion.

@freesk8 You are either well paid or more likely insane. Science explains religion rationalizes.

Can you get there on a bike? Because transportation is currently the largest single source of CO2 emissions, which is in itself transformative… but not in a good way.

May seem silly, a favorite way to *travel* for me are the many many many live videos of folks walking through their cities. Often do not speak. Folks headed to work, out to shop, maybe dinner. Particularly enjoy Asian cities! Very quickly realize these folks are US! No need to fear, hate, commit war against them. Cities are often more advanced, cleaner, people friendly.

As a student of science, I know that it takes a trillion (10^12) Pico Iyers to make one full Iyer.
