A tiny replica of the Mona Lisa, smaller than the top of a matchstick? Check. A realistic replica of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury standing on the head of a pin? Yes. What else? The rest has to be seen to be believed.

I think he’s missing the point about the surgeons- they’re operating on real humans, if they make a mistake they don’t “get knocked down then get back up” their patient gets injured or dies, the stakes are just so much higher. There’s no trial and error, the planning stage takes so many possibilities into account, surgeons will practice the operation repeatedly modelling the outcome, doing multiple scans, consulting with other specialties. Yes the operation itself is intricate, but their job is so much more than the physical manoeuvres on an operating table. They’re also on a time crunch, the patient can’t stay on the table indefinitely, and sometimes they need to stagger ops for healing/meds to take effect, there’s just so much more in the job than steady hands.

Like this is really impressive, and the steady hands are really impressive and he probably will have much steadier hands than a surgeon, but it’s ignoring a huge aspect of what surgery is to boil it down to steady hands and ignore the knowledge, the planning and care that goes into any operation and say what he does is more complex is fairly arrogant.

  32. JG

    November 8, 2022 at 8:59 am

I’ve seen these artworks before, and always assumed that they were made using a micromanipulator, a machine that scientists use to manipulate very small things like cells. I can’t even imagine how far above average his fine motor control must be. Even a steady hand looks shaky under a microscope.

  33. nick paz

    November 8, 2022 at 9:26 am

Quite disappointing that we don’t actually get to see him working material under the microscope. Might as well be fake and lies unless I actually get to see some thing being made. The process in itself to me would be more interesting than the actual end result of art.

Notice how he never shows how he does it. Or he never shows himself doing it. In a Timelapse. I’ve tried doing this and realized the secret. He thinks he is clever and he says it takes him weeks or months to finish each 😂. He inspired me, but he also frustrated me with his exaggerations. He knows if he shows his true process, he will be ignored because of simplicity and literal tracing that he does. He’s gotten himself another interview I guess. Only a few this decade
