@kartcopter
February 27, 2025 at 5:27 pm
The collect of data (even if switched off) can be far more than in case of collision only :
In the legal policy, it is written “when occurs a safety event (e.g. collision, airbag deployment or emergency braking)”.
All is beyond what they want to put in “safety event”, as the “e.g.” is subjective.
For example, they could consider that, based on your statistics of emergency braking, your whole driving is risky and BTW is a “safety event”.
Or that while you do not have fixed an issue alarm (such as a light that need to be changed), your drive is under “safety event”.
@kartcopter
February 27, 2025 at 5:35 pm
Or… even when one of the camera detects a pedestrian or another car too close : it can be considered as a safety event.
Events are both issues and risks of issues.
And Tesla needs to collect data in order to improve the autopilot and develop the full AI driven car, able to make decisions between a collision with a kid or 2 old persons.

“Others are also doing it” does not make it OK.
Tesla have obtained a status of leader of innovation in the car market, they are taking the harshest criticism like Apple for phones or John Deere for farming equipments.
They are a leader in the field and setting a bad example.
If they are forced to change course, others will quietly follow.
@AlenMop

Extend this idea a touch. Soon, if the Muskrat gets his way, but even other companies, there’ll be robots in a lot of households. Every one of them will have cameras and microphones running constantly. I guess a Tesla is basically a robot. Point is, the level of surveillance we are moving in to will break everyone’s brain if they think about it. And will AI on the rise, and being quite good at segmentation i.e. knowing what it is looking at, processing this vast amount of data will become possible. Do an article on that Wired. Cheers.

@le_th_
April 17, 2025 at 5:33 pm
I’ve repeatedly told people that this isn’t a car. It’s a data collection device disguised as an electric car.
The Muskkkrat is a covert narcissist with a hero-complex, and all anyone needs to do to effectively manipulate him is stroke his ego, tell him he’s awesome, and he’ll give them whatever data they want about anyone.
The Muskkkrat is a pathological liar, so you can’t trust him to ever tell the truth.
The real concern is Teslas are collecting data and footage of all of us as they drive by. Every time a tesla drives by a school, a playground, to a child’s sporting event they are parked near.
…and don’t get me started on the Google cars. I’ve been filmed by FOUR DIFFERENT GOOGLE CARS this week of April 15th, 2025…alone…In Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and Alameda California. Each time I turned around, there was ANOTHER Google car with the camera strapped to the top of the cars.
