“If we can unlock the full potential of our cities, we can minimize the price the planet pays for hosting us in our growing numbers,” says Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol, UK, who understands deeply how cities can help (or hurt) the environment. Rees notes that while sustainable infrastructure already exists in many parts of the world — like electric buses in Colombia and freshwater reserves in Singapore — major investments could make similar innovations more far-reaching and successful. He highlights the pivotal role of city mayors in advocating for a “worldwide network of efficient decarbonized cities” that will bring the world closer to its climate goals.

Everyone does know that the “climate crisis” is nonsense right? They take their personal jets to these conventions, buy beach front property and tell you to buy electric cars tat cause more pollution than gas. It’s all about the haves and have nots and we are the have nots so they want us living in tiny homes eating bugs.

Since the carbon is already in the atmosphere and it is too late to stop climate change, my city is maximizing its economic output to build the wealth we will need to adapt to the new climate and eventually master it through safe and effective geoengineering.

Not just for us, but for all mankind!

Since life depends on that CO2 in the atmosphere, exactly what is the optimal concentration? It seems climate alarmists can never answer this question.

@FreeMktMonkey IDK what is the harm of more CO2 exactly? more glacier water that we need, and more warm weather. No downside.

“That’s why I say cities are one of the most effective tools we have at our disposal for leveraging efficiency into out relationships with land energy and waste.”

Promptly cancels an arena in the city centre next to the train station, many bus routes, and walking distance for half the population, and moves it to where you need a car to access it.

We didn’t get rid of the mayor as Marvin in the mayor for another two years. A small minority voted to get rid of the mayoral role and go back to decades ago. Racism and jealousy are the main reasons. But you can see his potential in TED talks. It is a shame we won’t have him in the future. His ideas take him to the UN I guess as we need someone like him

I would like to go one step further to discussion how the country tackle climate crisis instead of city so to achieve a more comprehensive view. Since each hectare of the land is important, desertification 🏜 may be a real issue and because of its high advancement speed, it is considered one of the main environmental problems in China. I’m talking about the Gobi Desert which extends until Mongolia and it is one of the driest deserts on earth. The naturally occurring phenomenon of desertification started a long ago because of reckless agriculture and logging activities. The Chinese 🇨🇳 government approved in 1978 the Tree North Shelter Forest Program, the biggest attempt of reforestation ever tried. The plan provides for wall of trees, with a width of 50 meters and length of about 4,500 kilometres, with an aim of increasing the forest’s coverage from 5% to 15%. Although the plan is not finished yet, because they must continue until 2060, but we already have the first result. The forest’s coverage in the north has effectively increased. Over the last few years, 13 million hectares of trees has been planted, working as a shelter from the wind, an area that is as big as Greece 🇬🇷 an doing so they could save a portion of the desert that is almost as extend as Italy 🇮🇹 It now seems that desertification is probably starting to stop, and forests are growing faster than the desert. Forward looking, China 🇨🇳 will plant 36,000 square kilometres of new forest a year until 2025 as a measure to combat climate change and better protect natural habitats:-
    1) China aims to plant trees across an area larger than Belgium each year to increase its forests 🌳
    2) The mass tree planting has been at the heart of China’s environmental effort for decades and is a major part of plans to bring carbon emissions down to net zero by 2060
    3) By the end of 2025, 24.1 percent of China’s land will be covered by forest 🌳

    May 24, 2022 at 7:58 pm

Why replace toilets, when beef cultivation (for example) consumes SO MUCH MORE water?

There are growing population because increasing populations are good for capitalist. There are industries that are driving environmental pollution, because meeting established demands are for capitalists. We are running into shortages of resources, because land exploitation is good for capitalists. We use inefficient, wasteful, and expensive transportation (ie. cars), because privatised transport is good for capitalists.

But too rarely are capitalists, held to account, nor the systems that enable them curtail their power.

Isnt climate crisis good? We want warmer weather and more CO2 will help us keep our climate hotter. Plus more water from melting glaciers. The good might outweigh the bad honestly. What is unsustainable about it?

    • Martin Poulter

      May 24, 2022 at 8:29 pm

    lower dependency on harmful corporations

You can make flour out of acorns

Animal horns are pliable when heated. It was what we used before plastic

You can make lenseless glasses by poking needle sized holes in basically anything. I’ve been using cut up egg carton bits

You can eat every part of a dandelion!

Some Lichen are antibacterial and antifungal

All you need is a jar with a lid, water, and a potato to make yeast for baking

In today’s world, religion and sin does not scare or tame the wild nature of human beings like the olden days. The powers of the world need something to control the minds of human race since the early civilization, and with so much advancement and sea of knowledge at our disposal at the click of button, climate change hoax is the best way to keep in fears the mind of human. When one is in fear, it makes easy for the powerful to control the population.

He obviously just wanted to have a holiday paid for out of taxes. He flew for 9 hours to give a short talk about climate change.

Eco campaigners are all the same. For example, climate researchers have been shown to fly more miles to ‘conferences’ than any other academics. They want you to stop flying because they claim it will destroy all of civilisation but it is fine for them to spend your taxes jetting all over the world. When they get to their destination they just spend a few hours talking about the damage flying does and then get on a plane to fly home (after spending a few days sightseeing at your expense if course).

When the Green Councillors proposed the Climate Emergency motion in Bristol, Marvin spoke against the motion, said it was pointless grandstanding and was unachievable and he didn’t believe in it!!

Since its been passed he has:
    – Campaigned for Bristol Airport expansion against the wishes of Bristol residents
    – Cancelled the Arena nr Temple Meads train station in favour of a car intensive out of town arena
    – Held up the introduction of a clean air zone in the city centre, after adopting a weekend option anyway!
    – Cut back cycle network provision that was promised during covid.
    – continually attacks local campaigners for clean air with the slurr of being ‘anti-car’ as if that’s the worst thing he can think of!

This person is holding Bristol back on climate change, not leading! He’s the last person who should have been invited to speak from Bristol. He just wants the pats on the back and the glory without meaning anything he’s saying!
