You’re about to hear the sounds of several different creatures — from the voice of one single musician. In a spellbinding talk and performance, singer Snow Raven mimics the hoot of an owl, the grumble of a bear, the howl of a wolf and more. (Recorded at TEDNext 2024 on October 22, 2024)

Probably the most interesting thing I’ve seen on TED since Ken Robinson’s Do Schools Kill Creativity, and The Science Delusion by Rupert Sheldrake; the latter being, quite regrettably, banned.

It is hard to believe she is recreating some of the sounds she does.
She encapsulates the “E” and “D” in the TED mission.
And she gives us a part of the world we have never seen. Before it is gone.

Wtf happened to Ted? I guess you just need to pay for the logo and small fee in order to get into Ted talks nowadays. Ted is becoming what it was promised to not associate, and the idea of speading good ideas is dead. RIP the OG TED.

If you can free your thought this much and reapproach what makes us human in the first place, like Snow Raven does, you are certainly brighter than many recent people.

Understanding the reason behind things really allows you to appreciate them. I don’t think I’d enjoy her performance as much if she didn’t explain the emotions and reasons associated with these creatures cries.

Yes, Russians are very talented people. By the way, did she say that she is from Russia? Maybe I missed it. Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is the largest republic of Russia, located in the Russian Far East, along the Arctic Ocean, with a population of one million.
@sataneisen
November 29, 2024 at 7:05 am
She is from Yakutia and as far as I know majority of Yakutia people identify themselves as Yakutia people. Would we call Americans Chinese if USA is occupied by China?
@shalimov2006
November 29, 2024 at 8:21 am
@@sataneisen Where have I mentioned HER nationality?? There are 190 nationalities there. For me people who have American passport are Americans, aren’t they?
@sataneisen
November 29, 2024 at 12:07 pm
@@shalimov2006 “Russians are very talented people… did she say she is from Russia?” – Yakutian is a nationality where is Russian is a citizenship, due to Yakutia being colonized by Russians in 17th century. Nationality (which she did mention as Yakutian) is about belonging to a group of people, ethnicity is about culture/language/traditions which is demonstrated in this video and citizenship is about state and legal status which has nothing to do with the personality and talent.
@shalimov2006
November 29, 2024 at 9:46 pm
@@sataneisen I didn’t know, she had left Russia about five years ago after her graduation from the University and resides in LA now. That’s why she modestly keeps silent about which country she is from

November 29, 2024 at 2:58 am
I’m not sure I understand the point- She’s clearly talented, but a lot of it just feels condescending- like the lesson is out of place. This feels like something you might show elementary school kids, teaching them about the power of listening and imagination; not something that warrants being on TED

‘I greet the universe in your person’, I find similar to Namaste, meaning the light in me honours the light in you.
Amazingly beautiful to hear her say ‘To drop into silence, and listen.’ To learn to listen to nature and to ourselves in the noisy world we have created.

I personally enjoyed this. I didn’t watch her, I closed my eyes after her greeting and focused on her voice, the sounds of nature she created and let my mind block out everything else which made me feel quite free and humbled, especially with how my life is constantly bombarded with the bustle of the city.
