Not the best explanation for variable aperture. It’s more likely to be used to let in less light when needed because the aperture will be bigger. So, if there’s too much light, it closes, but at night it opens.

I’m so done with non-photographers saying the mechanical aperture will “let it more light.” It will not. What it will do, is allow LESS light without increasing shutter speed and create a deeper depth of field.
