In Western countries, they’re being arrested just to stop genocide. Is that democracy? Is that freedom of expression? The democracy the USA brought to countries forced upon them has sacrificed many innocent people. They turned their backs on ICE agents and were shot on the spot, losing their lives. Is that democracy? Western media, many affiliated with the Epstein regime’s elite, often conceals the truth and cannot be trusted. Is that democracy? Let’s first look at the Western world itself, where there are more double standards and lies. 168 children were killed at school on the first day of the Zionist attack, and have the US, the Western countries that claim to be democratic and have the best civil society in the world, condemned this heinous act?

Wired should put this man on retainer for the next few months at least. It’s almost impossible to find intelligent, rational analysis of this war without it being utterly soaked in the speaker’s own personal politics. It’s extremely refreshing to hear actual facts instead of slogans and chants.

He did not mention one important point. Yes, there are elections in Iran, but they are strictly supervised by the Guardian Council, which has 12 members. Half of them are appointed by the Supreme Leader, and the other half are appointed by the judiciary (whose head is also appointed by the Supreme Leader). To put it simply, they decide who is eligible to run as a candidate in presidential and parliamentary elections. Let’s not forget that, because of this system, elections have become effectively rigged—as seen during the 2009 Green Movement—and somewhat meaningless, since they do not influence the core policies of the Islamic Republic. These policies are ultimately determined by the Supreme Leader’s office and the IRGC.

A lot of what I hear about Iran reminds me of what we heard about Iraq prior to the 2003 war. You know, that all the people want is democracy, and that they are very pro-American and western and secular and all this. I’m not saying that’s not true, but all countries have conservatives too, and Iraq had a much larger religious conservative faction than I think was previously realized. I think even a fully democratic Iran would still have a powerful right-wing religious faction, and they would presumably get elected now and then.

its important to note that the irgc is the islamic revolutionary guard corps. The “i” in irgc does not stand for Iran. Even Tarek (in an overall excellent video) gets it a bit muddled at one point when he says the irgc is there to defend the Iranian regime. Nope. They are there to defend the islamic revolution. The terms seem like they ought be interchangeable, but that’d be mistake. The islamic revolution doesn’t much care about Iran — they aren’t big on the concept of nation states. They see themselves as the ones in charge of this worldwide revolution. The nation of Iran is largely unimportant to the islamic regime beyond how the revolution can exploit it.

Freedom for my people and every community living under oppression and brutality

  54. @alikh8775

    April 24, 2026 at 2:33 pm

Nope, no elective parts in the Iranian system, only parts that seem to be election based, the body that is responsible to review and approve the nominations of the elected bodies are 12 men 6 of which are directly selected by the supreme leader, the other 6 is selected by the head of judiciary which himself is appointed by the supreme leader, so the body overseeing the nomination approvals is controlled always by the supreme leader which in turn means he only allows his supporters to nominate, therefore people have to vote between nominees who have already been handpicked by the dictator himself. So no real elections.
    That’s a big difference.
The system is designed to fool outsiders and pose as a democracy.

  55. @sagor_sa

    April 24, 2026 at 2:40 pm

8:04 Speaking about AI and the information war was very important. I saw a video of an airport being attacked, and a lot of the baby strollers and suitcases were self-propelled for some reason. I had friends share AI propaganda and misinformation on social media. Also, don’t forget that downed F-35 the size of an A380.
The information war always existed, but was a skillful art before social media and AI blew up. Now, it’s mostly poorly educated people creating/sharing deranged propaganda. Again, goes to say, something this powerful shouldn’t be accessible to anyone.

    April 24, 2026 at 6:12 pm

Iran… 2 nations living in 1 country. They don’t think alike, don’t talk alike, and don’t dress alike. The real question is percentages. What percent of people currently in Iran, do you think no longer want the criminal regime of thief-ayatollahs?
What percentage does? All Islamic supporters are on the streets in Iran along with their Muslim brotherhood supporters. Please count them. At the same time 1.5 million Iranians outside Iran borders protested againt mass murder of 45,000 precious Iranians mass murderer by corrupt IRGC mafia in 2 days last January.

Your tech support info is old. Today, ayatollah means a thief, a liar and a tyrant. IRGC animals who beat, torture and our people are the most HATED in Iran. They mass murdered upwards of 45,000 precious Iranians in 2 days in January. Don’t try to whitewash them

  68. @michaelg8947

    April 24, 2026 at 7:30 pm

The focus on destroying the conventional armed forces of Iran, rather than destroying the IRGC and affiliated entities, diminishes the opportunities for internally initiated regime change (i.e. civil war). This underlines the lack of perception and foresight in certain governments.

  69. @pedramtavadze5467

    April 24, 2026 at 7:31 pm

You did not mention a very important part of that makes turns the facade of democracy into a full on dictatorship and that’s the “Guardian” Council. The members of this council are directly selected by the “leader”. They control which candidate can run for any office and they disqualify candidates if they’re not considered a good puppet. Moreover, any bill that is passed by the parliament has to be reviewed by this council for it to become law. So it is a closed system controlled by the leader. The leader selects the council, the council selects the candidates who run for presidency, the parliament, and most importantly the “Assembly of Experts of Leadership” who select the leader.

God bless Iran. I will never forget how your people showed us love after 9/11. I am sorry our leaders have made us into enemies. You have a beautiful history and culture, and you have been making great contributions to the world for millennia. I hope and pray we can find peace together someday. Please know that there are Americans who have great respect for your people and want to see you free–truly free, not as a pawn for anyone, but as a dignified and sovereign people among the nations. Many of us have been brainwashed by our government and media into thinking that all Iranians are extremists and terrorists. But we do not all believe it.

1-khamenaei before his death said multiple times that he doesnt wanna his son to become the next supreme leader to not be thought as heridatary dictatorship (altho it happened due to political reasons)

2-altho people will always protest, in this war alot of the old protestors are standing with the gov, not because they like it, but because their children got killed and theyre trying to destroy their country which they are OBSESSED & PROUD with their history and cultrue(and they should)

Unfortunately, this is what happens when Religion and Politics are allowed to mix…. The power hungry use religion to control the rest of us, and we allow these nut cases to control us, not just in Iran but in many other places in the world. Shaking off the IRGC -and- the religion based leadership at the top will require a lot of effort and sacrifice. Let’s keep in mind that this current crop of nutcases came to the top because another nutcase hijacked religion to get to the top, and I am not forgetting the Shah and the U.S.’ role in this boondoggle. Sad situation!

Just like with China, Americans have ZERO knowledge of Iranian culture and society, other than what is being told through propaganda to promote a narrative. Few Americans know the difference between Arabs, Persian, Afghans.. let alone more details about cultures. There is ZERO reporting to inform Americans on ANYTHING outside of the US.. so it’s easy to convince citizens of need to kill others.

  98. @wyskass861

    April 25, 2026 at 8:33 pm

Another interesting thing, is that Iran is a Presidential Republic, much like the US, South America, Syria, Belarus, and much of Africa. And most have gone dictatorial at some point because it gives too much power to president. Healthy democracies are Parliamentary where NO SINGLE person is able to make decisions without structural consultation. Presidential systems are the oldest and most outdated democracies still existing, and have a bad record of success.

Try to threaten, impoverish, and crush a society and hardliners will always be in control. Allow a country to flourish on it’s own, the moderates always win out. The more the US and the west try to crush Iran, the stronger they make the IRGC. Leave Iran be, let them show their brilliance on their own cultural terms, let them find their own way. F*ck US empire

A question I would have liked to see is how the Iran war has changed the dynamic in the Middle East between the Arab Sunni states and Shia Iran. As what has come out of officials for SA, the UAE, Kuwait, and so on indicates it won’t be the same state of relations as it was before the war (in that they’ll be an openly hostile bloc to Iran’s meddling instead of one seeking to placate them).

I’m sorry but I think that the speaker is pretty biased and may I say hypocritical concerning this topic.

Yes he is clearly well informed and has a nice degree to go with it. But he fails to insist on the origin of this hole current war. Which is the USA’s and Isreal’s current (but not new) politics : Expansionnisme and Imposing their vision of “democracy” to other countries.

Yes there are a lot of problems in Iran, and yes the people of Iran should not be repressed, but the US/Israel have no right to intervene in their internal politics

By doing so, they only worsen the problem anyways

We have to differentiate between global and internal affairs

And also, as a general rule, stop considering other countries/cultures as inferior/wrong because they don’t align with your vison of politics

Should I keep going? Tell me – what government has absolutely no human beings protesting against it? Do you think that if you are the most authoritarian vicious cruel terrible government in the planet that all humans will be afraid to protest against it? Is there such a thing as a most idyllic perfect government that all humans on the planet love with Open hearts and believe is the absolutely perfect government?

Right at the beginning when I saw the two flags, I knew it is going to be biased and unprofessional. First, you have to use the official and UN recognized flags. Second, the Supreme leader is elected by the assembly of experts that’s members are directly elected by the Iranian people. So he is as much of a dictator as the British prime minister and the German chancellor. You have to wake up, people don’t need your confirmation for their government system.

I am highly disappointed, but not surprised that they completely omitted the history of our CIA which orchestrated the coup that topple, elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh in 1953. Known as operation Ajax, the mission removed the democratically elected leader to intall the rule of Mohammad Reza which became a ruthless dictator. The hypocrisy of the Prof. here with all the respect is that he is talking about how democracy will be beneficial to the Iranian people and the world while completely ignoring that they had a viable democracy that we screwed😊

  137. @lostcasel

    April 27, 2026 at 1:48 pm

Everybody getting elected is pre-selected/pre-approved candidates by the regime. There are no truly independent candidates. Also, the ‘civilian institutions’ are often headed by IRGC generals, case in point, the current Speaker of the parliament and head of judiciary are both ex-generals. A parliament and a Judiciary headed by Generals. Let that sink in. The whole religious-military-civilian institutions facade is just multiple faces of the same single incestuous organism headed by a dead in soul Ayotollah.
Iranian people are intelligent, talented, civilized and truly progressive people much in line with many european nations, they didn’t deserve this body cancer of regime hollowing a civilizational nation with their rotten, rabid theocracy.
The Iranians and the Iranian Nation deserves their true place in the comity of nation. God Bless.

As an Iranian I think this video addresses most of the story fairly accurately. I would also add that the uprisings start with one major pressing issue like financial, but there is many other issue with it that causes the outburst… people don’t have proper jobs, income is low and expenses are high, people hardly have any freedom (the hijab os one of them that people can show but the regime involves in people’s most basic decisions such as selecting a name for their kids…)
Please do more of these with some more focus on human rights topic in Iran and how the IRGC and world powers making life difficult for people in the region. And sadly around the world.

    April 27, 2026 at 6:55 pm

How many election interferences and coups have they partaken in? the US has no right to call them out on anything.

  148. @AylarOnJourney

    April 28, 2026 at 3:20 am

When we Iranians are supporting Reza Pahlavi, the son of latest Shah of Iran, others criticize us for wanting a monarchy. But no one talks about how Iran is now basically being governed like an authoritarian monarchy where the leader is basically a dictator king. Now that Khamenei is dead as well as many other leaders, it makes you understand that Iran has been governed by IRGC for as long as it was created. The IRGC was made to protect the regime against Iranians. It’s funny how it’s called revolutionary corp but it actually is there to suppress any protests and potential revolution. If the IRGC falls, the whole system crumbles into itself and people can be finally free. Any country including the US and Israel that targets and kills the IRGC members, is doing Iranians a big favor.

Not so long ago much of Europe used to be Theocratic and even less democratic than Iran is today. European countries grew out of this, not as a result of external pressure, but other factors. It seems to me that isolating Iran with sanctions and the like for decades along with persistent external threats has solidified the authoritarian core of the Iranian state, because more people are dependent upon that core. However removing sanctions provides alternative opportunities which would diminish the significance of the authoritarian core and enable political reform. Obviously agents of other countries running around assassinating people is going to prevent reform.

Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi was thought to have succeeded Ayatollah Ali Khamenei until his likely assassination near the Azerbaijani-Iranian border. His son wasn’t initially thought by many inside to succeed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei until the unfortunate death of Ibrahim Raisi.

As an iranian none of these information is true. The protests only started after american sanctions did put our peaple under economic pressure. Our voting percentage was always higher than 80% before sanctions. The main villain here is the american government who started a war against iranian peaple and god things has gooten much worse since that…

    As an Iranian
I don’t want america export it’s “democracy” to my country. we can get our contry back. we don’t need an enemy attack us, threat to destory our water and electric infrustructure and take our resources and oil to give us someone that “might” give us a little democracy!

It seems you have no idea what’s the system like in Iran or you are shy to say.
There two system in Iran . one system which looks as if it’s democratic for it’s face value .
pretend as if there is an election and people are elected by people and have power but they are not elected and they have no power or just e littile power. They can fraud as much as they can and become morphia of tea, rice , tobacco, land and anything you can imagine but not running the country . The other system. Runs the country..
The elections are fraud , even choosing the president. The system chooses 4 or two people and people should vote for them which is usually choosing between bad and worse. Sadly even that is not honest. They system takes the one they want out of the bulletin point. That why nothing has changed for 47 years, it just gets worse. .

Thank you so much for talking about Iran in an intelligent, honest manner. We Iranians outside of Iran feel passionately about bringing democracy to Iran and lately when we talk about what is truley happening in the country, filtered through brief conversations with friends and family due to internet blackout that is going on its 60+ days, we are met with cruelty. Iranians are knowledge loving, accepting people as a civilization and we just want a chance to live normal, productive lives where we can thrive. Unfortunately Islamic regime is power hungry and want to keep Iran under oppression for as long as possible no matter how many lives are taken. The regime knows that Iran is a stronghold and will do anything to keep its people oppressed to achieve global theocracy.
