There should have been at least one question on John Oliver’s segment on GWR and their rather unusual proclivity for humoring dictators.

  5. Étoine de Vries

    June 22, 2022 at 8:48 am

Except the connection with the drink question, this was a pretty boring video. It’s like 90% stating names of record holders. I understand why these things get googled but it doesn’t make for a very interesting video.

why do you give Guinness world records to dictators?

  41. Ke Th

    June 24, 2022 at 10:42 pm

GWR picked the two right personalities for this. I always figured the organization was kind of stuck up and “prestigious” but these two ladies showed it seems very down to earth and quite fun. Wouldn’t even mind working with the company if they were hiring. 😉

  45. D.B.

    June 26, 2022 at 10:08 am

Let’s be honest. About 95% of these “records” are just utter BS! And 90% of those are not even that entertaining. Some guy stacked M&Ms? And humanity is so proud of this we have a f* book for it.

Guinness World Records has no oversight and isn’t an authority on anything other than how to market themselves. Literally the way you get a record “verified” by them is by paying them. It’s not an honest organization, many of their “records” are completely fake. They are just about as trustworthy as Snopes, PolitiFact, Wikipedia every other modern business that operates in the purview of “fact-checking”. They’re all snakes and none of them actually care about the truth, they care about money and their agenda.

With all the new fee and safety rules, does the book still answer the original question of fastest gaming bird in Europe? Hunting a bird isn’t safe for the bird, and wild animals don’t have owners signing up with GWR.
A similar problem applies to all the other records about loosing or failing or dying. Like “most painful death” (with subcategories)?
