I get the initial skepticism around Google’s track record here, but all the pieces are actually falling into place for this to work out long-term—it just needs time to marinade.
If Google fully backs Google Book OS and eventually expands partnerships to Samsung, Chinese OEMs, and established mobile brands (we already see what Honor and Huawei are capable of in PC design), it could push hardware variety and healthy market competition to its absolute peak.
The Software Gap & AI Solves:
The primary hurdle right now is clearly the lack of a mature, desktop-grade software library. But that organically irons itself out as adoption grows. What’s interesting is how Google anticipated this gap: by integrating AI-assisted development tools (vibe coding), they’re lowering the barrier for developers and power users to spin up personal, lightweight software solutions on demand without relying solely on legacy software giants.
The Next Evolutionary Step:
Android’s natural evolution requires feature enrichment that only larger screens and desktop-class windowing can provide. Combined with Google’s lead in on-device AI integration, this gives them a platform to deliver something far more distinct than the standard macOS/Windows offerings. The sky’s the limit once optimization kicks in.

I personally think all competitors have lost it to the MacBook Neo in the US. HP & Dell will only be left with their vendor locked in enterprise sales.

So, Windows 11 sucks on PC and on laptops & now you want people to use a not-so-proven OS. Good luck with that. I’ll stay on my MacBook Pro. Apple gave you all a blueprint, and yet no one uses it. macOS is not perfect, but I have far fewer issues and solid battery life using it. Siri AI is so good now & I love Gemini as an AI; I use it all the time. $899.99 for a non-power user LMAooo… Just get an iPad for less if you are a non-power user.

I need a multi-profile browser support, full stop!. This is a big issue for me on Chromebooks, and it’s extremely frustrating to learn that the new Googlebook OS still won’t support standard browser profiles. Google needs to hear that this is a core feature many of us rely on for daily productivity.
On my current setup, I have a bunch of OS user logins created and have to log into all of them each time just in case I need to flip to another profile. I do work for multiple related companies and also have a personal account, and navigating between them is painful.
It also creates a major issue with WhatsApp. I need it set up on each of these accounts, but WhatsApp only allows 4 linked devices. This single laptop has now used up 3 of them. This wouldn’t be an issue at all if I could just flip the bloody Chrome browser profile instead of setting up a separate OS environment for each account. If Googlebook OS is meant for serious work, forcing us to use clunky OS-level workarounds instead of proper Chrome profiles is a huge letdown.

Okay I’m trying to be excited but the problem is to me they just made a very powerful Android tablet think about it Samsung tablets have ecosystems that do similar to the same thing might not have as much of a powerful processor but come on until you can tell me these things can replace a Windows or an Apple device i don’t understand and also let’s be honest some of the Chromebooks that are more expensive can do some of these things as well

Honestly, I can see people getting the 900$ version and dual booting it. Its good hardware for the price considering the current situation. With barely any native app support, I dont see anyone seriously getting this over a tablet or a smartphone

why get a googlebook instead of an android tablet and roll with the regular windows laptop with all the files and usage abilities and 3rd party software coverage?!

Never asked for this. What I am asking for Google to bring back Steam for Chrome OS which it inexplicably mothballed. Was getting 40fps on Skyrim Special Edition and then Google one day just turned off that functionality. Thanks
