The name might be a mouthful of Os, but Googlebooks might be the perfect premium laptops to take on Apple and Microsoft.

Damn finally, I only have one leg in the grave before they decide to do this, and I’m 65 😂.

we have a show called Gogglebox here in the UK, I wonder if anyone at Google was aware of this

Perfect couldn’t be better that’s what everyone needs only happy customers from now on, Except… AI is a scam, sure it will fire like a machine gun bullet’s of code and text summaries but if you trust that… well, get ready to suffer either by overpaying or by overworking the simplest things. AI is mediocre at best, so are most of us humans but we have our moments right?
@jacobortega3424
May 12, 2026 at 5:04 pm
No one is going to be buying googlebooks unless they compete with macbook neos or airs.
@keithframe3489
May 12, 2026 at 9:13 pm
the main problem is, neo and air are full fledge desktop OS, whereas googlebook is just an android – neo/air are far more capable
@turnright1131

The name is terrible
@georgewashington3012

Sounds like a perfect storm of OS Slop with AI shoved in everywhere just because.
@MrMonkey0016

MacBook nah bro Googlebook — yeah I’d liked it if it was called Gbook much cooler!!
@destructodisk9074
May 12, 2026 at 5:57 pm
Alright Google has the market figured out! Just in time when everyone was looking for higher priced laptops, with AI slapped all over it. And just what everyone wants on their expensive laptops, mobile apps! With a mix of x86 thrown in, I am sure the software compatibility will be amazing.
You go Google, don’t stick to anything, just keep throwing spaghetti at the wall, that is how you build up a customer base.
@DariusRoland
May 12, 2026 at 5:58 pm
I hate the awful AI infestation. It would be a different thing if AI actually offered some tangible benefit to users, but too often it’s wrong, slow, and Google is going to tie it down with a subscription model (which is ALWAYS terrible) as soon as people have no choice but to use it.

Face it, this MacBook, sorry, GoogleBook is gonna be another Google laptop headed to the Google graveyard of failed cancelled products next year. 😂

AI slop of a laptop. Who wants this?
@lapiswolf2780
May 12, 2026 at 6:52 pm
I can already see the wiggle gesture opening Gemini being a constant point of annoyance when Gemini tried to do something with your programme when you’re just moving the cursor or trying to decide what you’re going to do next.

“Googlebooks” is a silly name for a silly product made by a silly company fully of silly people making other silly products – or not.

May 12, 2026 at 8:17 pm
This is nothing but an AI slop re-brand for chromebooks.
@neilfordan
May 12, 2026 at 8:30 pm
If this still have compatibility issues with current most used apps it will not go anywhere. Ai slop won’t be able to save it. Windows really need a serious alternative. Not just a glorified browser.
@janmdsdks
May 12, 2026 at 8:33 pm
Apple should make an Applebook to compete lol
@keithframe3489
May 12, 2026 at 9:07 pm
they already have macbook neo – it can run ios app.
@ImperfectStorm
May 12, 2026 at 8:39 pm
made to gather your data and help you create slop. better call it slopbook.
@neilfordan
May 12, 2026 at 8:40 pm
Not really looking forward to this especially with the heavy emphasis on ai slop. I just want a normal laptop that doesn’t get in your way. Doesn’t fight you. Can run your apps so you can do your work properly. I think google is missing a real opportunity here. They should emphasize on app compatibility, and reliability.

May 12, 2026 at 9:04 pm
This could be a huge success, or fail.
If you use an Android phone, thinking about the ecosystem is quite exciting.
Premium, I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing.
Pricing might be an important factor as well, provided the MacBooks exist (from the Neo to the Pro) that are used by pretty much everyone, video editors, programmers, students, etc. Are Googlebooks going to do all that?
The name, not cool bro 😂
@keithframe3489
May 12, 2026 at 9:04 pm
Windows 11 getting trashed for forcing AI, and now Google create a laptop with AI OS. Are they really paying attention? No one wants this.

You can tell who hasn’t read or watched anything by those who are suggesting pixelbook branding
They obviously haven’t realised other OEMs will be making Googlebooks
There’s a reason Microsoft doesn’t allow other OEMs to use their Surface branding
@xklusiveofficial
May 13, 2026 at 4:51 am
I think it should be called DroidBook or PixelBook

The name is too long and it doesn’t have the ring to it like MacBook does. Their marketing/creative team should be fired for coming with something so clunky.
@maboteshaun
May 13, 2026 at 6:49 am
Google has a service called “Google books” now this computer/device is also called a “Google book”. This is what happens when you do too much
@joe22-m6d
May 13, 2026 at 7:10 am
I would name it: Google Laptop Computer…. GLC for short. then GC for shorter. Then I’d ditch all of those and call it GoogleBook. Sure it will be about useful as a book…. except to do anything with it you will need an internet connection.
@baronealbert
May 13, 2026 at 7:15 am
To be clear, Google DID NOT create a laptop, at this point we have – at best – a preview of a new OS. This is pretty annoying
@argacc20417
May 13, 2026 at 8:34 am
If they can’t provide desktop apps, it’s will not sell
@InnerFire6213

so it’s like a pixel tab with cursors and built in touchpad and keyboard? so a.. pixelbook
@SamMerchant-vn4or

I love my pixelbook, but prob with chromebooks Claude Code doesn’t work properly on them and a lot of apps were not optimised for chromebooks

GoogleBook is a stupid name, and the logo is stupid too. They should have named it PixelBook and used a different logo instead.
@badam1814
May 13, 2026 at 12:52 pm
They are going to have to seriously beef up Gemini on Android to make this a viable solution. Claude Cowork is going to be a must have on any computer going forward, and if its not available – Gemini is going to have to fill its shoes.
@alanchrishughes
May 13, 2026 at 1:45 pm
They’re going backwards. The appeal of Chromebooks was that it was “just” a browser without any bs bloat. Now it will be all Google bloat and even more of their half assed projects they never actually complete.
@SeshDroid

can’t i just use a phone connected to a KVM setup – as it should be. Small light mobile — and when sitting down / layovers / vacation use the TV / Monitor to do big screen things. Focus on that Google.
@meraj205

So just a “premium” (word gets tossed around quite a lot these days, so whatever that word means) Chromebook? Eh, I’m not convinced. This thing is supposed to last? As a former Samsung Android user for many years, when has Android ever lasted? When has a Chromebook ever lasted? Not to dog on Android, but seriously, just get a Neo. Or a Macbook Air. Quality achieved; Premium achieved; Will last quite a while, achieved.
@McGrueber

There was a Chromebook, a Pixelbook, and now a Googlebook. They replaced Nexus with Pixel. They’re planning to change Fitbit’s name. I’m so endlessly irritated by Google’s idiotic practice of juggling names, cutting off and discarding brands, services, and ideas.

May 14, 2026 at 5:58 pm
Hopefully Google puts in a little more effort and loyalty into their new laptops than they have in their tablets….hopefully they start putting more effort into their tablets! My trust in Google’s loyalty to its product lines has waned over the last few years as they either lag behind their competitors or reduce resources toward supporting its product lines. If I can’t expect continued support for a product line, why should I invest into buying it.
