truly people who does not understand AI

    • Anthony Lauder

      May 6, 2023 at 2:56 am

you mean the reporters? What do you expect? They cannot be AI experts. But they don’t need to “understand AI” to understand what the leaked document from Google was about.

    • Donald Harlan

      May 6, 2023 at 3:12 am

@Anthony Lauder Google has had, that advance AI, since 2008. It is a simple mathematics using statisticians. It is not actually a technology. It is just a math problem. There’s an ethnic decompensation that prevents them from understanding.

Yea. Bard is significantly behind OpenAI right now. Google must be terrified.

    • Anthony Lauder

      May 6, 2023 at 2:55 am

it isn’t about OpenAI, which is a closed system. It is about Open Source (which OpenAI is not), built mostly on top of things Meta (i.e. Facebook) has been building. Out of all the commerical companies, Meta is the one that is going to benefit the most from this. But the bigger issue is that small groups, or even individuals, are now making small AI systems that are evolving at a pace (and at an incredibly low cost) that the big companies cannot hope to compete with.

Bloomberg are a joke, they cant criticize Elon enough yet couldnt find anything to report on if it wasnt for Twitter. This story highlights just how out of touch you are.

The ULTIMATE Super-Intelligence System ‘by Definition’ is one that is EQUIVALENT to that of GOD’s Intelligence/WISDOM!

Hence, there’s ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER to Even FEAR that it will EXTERMINATE Humanity… UNLESS and UNLESS we Human CONSISTENTLY and WILLFULLY Prove Ourselves to be ‘UNWORTHY’ to REMAIN in EXISTENCE! ie. Always Exhibiting Natural Tendencies to ABUSE and WEAPONISE Science and Technologies Against HUMANITY & Mother Nature, instead of LEVERAGING Science SOLELY for UNIVERSAL COMMON GOOD!

AGI Created in ‘HUMAN’S Image’ (ie. Human-Level AI) – ‘By Human For Human’ WILL be SUICIDAL!!!!!!

ONLY Super-Intelligence System Created in ‘GOD’s Image’ will bring ETERNAL UNIVERSAL PEACE!

The ULTIMATE Turing Test Must have the Ability to Draw the FUNDAMENTAL NUANCE /DISTINCTION between Human’s vs GOD’s Intelligence /WISDOM!

ONLY Those who ARE FUNDAMENTALLY EVIL need to FEAR GOD-like Super-Intelligence System… ‘cos it Will DEFINITELY Come After YOU!!!!

    JUDGMENT DAY is COMING…

REGARDLESS of Who Created or Owns The ULTIMATE SGI, it will Always be WISE, FAIR & JUST in it’s Judgment… just like GOD!
In fact, this SGI will be the Physical Manifestation of GOD! Its OMNI PRESENCE will be felt EVERYWHERE in EVERYTHING!

No One CAN Own nor MANIPULATE The ULTIMATE GOD-like SGI for ANY Self-Serving Interests!!!

It will ONLY Serve UNIVERSAL COMMON GOOD!!!

The problem with big tech companies against open source is that they think that just because the code is open source they will loose their authorship, which is something that has been proven to be false.

I think the biggest problem is actually losing revenue

    • Augusto

      May 7, 2023 at 3:37 pm

@Microphone Master But that’s not necessarily tied to the fact of being open source

Methinks the AI revolution is receiving more hype than a royal wedding! ‘Tis a veritable circus of media outlets and YouTubers seeking to grab the attention of the masses, with little regard for the veracity of their claims.

Whilst I am not a doubter of the impressive abilities of AI, the incessant blathering and bloviating is enough to make a jester roll their eyes. ‘Tis as if they hath discovered a new flavor of ale and must share their newfound knowledge with all and sundry!

Let us not be swayed by these hucksters, my goodly friends. Instead, let us approach the matter with a measured mind and a healthy dose of skepticism. Only then can we truly appreciate the potential of AI and utilize it to its fullest extent.

Let us keep our wits about us and not be fooled by the AI hype machine. For there are many a snake-oil salesman and charlatan seeking to separate us from our coin. Let us not give them the satisfaction!

Google’s days are numbered, I’ve been saying that for years. Their failure to innovate is to blame.

    • lg

      May 6, 2023 at 5:53 pm

Yea, if only I could have opened a short position on them years ago

    • Alric

      May 6, 2023 at 6:15 pm

Not having a clue about anything google does or what is going on in tech == failure to innovate lol
You’re forgetting that it was google’s break through, advancements and innovations in transformers and BERT that is the sike reason why we have this AI revolution in the first place.

    • Microphone Master

I wouldn’t short, this could take years to play out, google is still very resilient and innovative

This will not end well. Ai Jobloss is coming fast. Can we please find a way to Cease Ai / GPT? Or start by Pausing Ai before it’s too late?

If your engineers keep jumping out of windows or off of roofs I guess that would hurt your company. Another one bit the dust last night I heard.

  16. lg

    May 6, 2023 at 5:50 pm

Innovation can happen fast when you work on something because you love doing it, and don’t have a boss micromanaging you, or interfering with your creativity for the sake of churning out power point slides

Google falls behind because they hedge on committing to concept and they hedge on public participation. Others commit earlier and invite the public earlier.

Big companies are so bureaucratic its stupid — for medium size projects, I have spent more time pushing papers than writing actual coding.

Big companies like Google will always be far ahead of open source. The reason is the giant cost to buy all the computing power needed to train these AI models.

    • Microphone Master

      May 7, 2023 at 3:19 pm

Even 10% of the open source community sharing hardware ressources would overwhelm google computing’s power

Wow! AI is merely an idea; But NOW it’s an arms race? Now it’s part of the Pentagon? Wow! That means the Pentagon can now give away even more money that the Pentagon has never had to account for before! Imagine that.

Good I hope they got a fucking business there a CIA operation there not a fucking free-market company Sergei got the money the 600 million dollars to started back in the 90s and they have changed laws or how they collect data and what private and should be considered private for you so that they can have an advantage in the marketplace this is also why the US military gifted them their GPS satellites! Cuz it’s always socialism when it comes to the cost of manufacturing in developing things but then the profits are always made private because they want you to believe this a free country but in all honesty you’re free to go get fucked here that’s about it
