They’re claiming 2x relative performance, but on what metric. I’ll wait until these claims are validated by trustworthy sources.

I just want the 3080 thats all. its basically double the 2080 to performance and that is what i always wanted. And it will be waaaaay cheaper than 2080 Ti
I am still not quit sure about that since i never used 2080 Ti and stayed with my 1080 ti. But i will be upgrading any way to 3080 soon.

heres the truth(for ome reason it traslates pound to dollar in uk as we get stiffed with vat, import tax and extra charges from nvidia. britexti vote didnt help either with exchange rate. but it doesnt explain the high costs in 2020.

    2014-2015
    GeForce 900 (9xx) series
    Model Launch Launch price (USD)
    GeForce GTX 970 September 18, 2014 $329
    GeForce GTX 980 $549
    GeForce GTX 980 Ti June 2, 2015 $649

    2016-2017 (1 year later)
    GeForce 10 (10xx) series
    Model Launch Launch MSRP (USD)
    Founders Edition
    GeForce GTX 1070 June 10, 2016 $449
    GeForce GTX 1070 Ti November 2, 2017
    GeForce GTX 1080 May 27, 2016 $699

    2018-2019 (2 years later lol)
    Model Launch Launch MSRP (USD)
    Standard
    GeForce RTX 2080 September 20, 2018 $699+
    GeForce RTX 2080 Super July 23, 2019 $699
    GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Septemb
    GeForce RTX 2070 2018 499

    2020(1 year later)

model launch price dollar us/or pound
    3070 2020 499 (just say 500 more likely 550)
    3080 2020 699 (more like 700)
3090 2020 1400 (doesnt mater only special people buy this)

    so
    2015-2020
    70 series from $320 to $500 (5 years)
    80 series from $550 to $700(or 699)
90 series doesnt mater cause most people wont get it.

Do we all really accept a 70 series gpu being 60% more expensive today than 5 years ago and thats compareing a g1 gamer with a cherry picked gpu to a bog standard nvidia with no aftermarket cooling. personally i think nvidia put prices too high on the 20series and i dont feel they have gone down enough here.

am i justn a tight git and everyone else isnt or has nvidia mangaged to make the mid ranged gpu go up so so much and gopt people thking them in the process?

2018: RTX 2080TI runs everything SO FINE!!!

    2020: 2080TI ??? man it cant even game at 4k 60fps, GO FOR 3090!!!

2023: 3090 ?? man r u kidding me, this cant run super mario bros.

2050: 34990TI ?? man this is so cute, upgrade to 35090TI NOW!!!

we will never get something awsome, u always need to upgrade to get the same experience as radeon HD 3000s in 2005s, the technologys is just evolving backwards.

The 3080 does not actually double the performance of the 2080 TI or the 2080. That’s a misnomer and a trick they did with dlss. That dlss upscaling brought the card from a 50% increase in a Cherry picked game to 1.9 times increase. So what we’re really looking at is a 1.5 times increase in a Cherry picked game which more than likely means overall that the 3080 will be 25 to 35% faster than the 2080. And that is the same generational increase we see with every release. Plus or minus 5%. So while this is a huge improvement over the 1,000 series it is the standard generational increase over the 2000 series.

One of the most significant moves Nvidia has made in this 3,000 series release is redormalizing their prices back to industry standards and typical gamer expectations. So the equivalent of the 1080 ti, 2080 TI which according to Nvidia is the 3080 without the ti signifier, is back on track for the $800 SRP. Instead of the $1,400 ridiculousness they tagged onto the 2080 TI. So that part is good news but the rest of this is just pretty standard increases. The other aspect that is at play in this press release is like I say the dlss. But dlss is only important if you’re trying to run 4K monitors with graphically demanding games. And the percentage of people currently doing that is in the single digits as far as percentage is concerned. So again Nvidia AKA Ngreedia, is wildly overhyping these cards and there’s no way the average user is going to see the 1.9 times increase their claiming.

Sad that they’ve been ripping people off despite being capable of reducing their prices so much. God knows how long they’d have done it had AMD not upped game
