Electric motorcycles eliminate components like pistons, valves, air filters, spark plugs, clutches, and exhaust systems, they don’t need regular oil changes, top-end rebuilds, or complex engine servicing. As a result, riders simply don’t rely on frequent dealer service or large replacement parts networks in the same way traditional gas bikes do.

To be clear, I’m saying the fact that these huge install base exist currently means they aren’t going anywhere for anytime soon. Evie will be the minority stakeholder for some time to come. As opposed to this content with suggest Ev’s have already overtaken ice as a whole for dirt bikes

@CyberSamurai4Life You’re mixing up body repair logistics with powertrain maintenance. Waiting on a bumper after a crash is a supply chain issue, but it doesn’t change the fact that an electric bike has zero valves, pistons, oil filters, or clutches to service every 20–50 hours.
Nobody is saying ICE dirt bikes will disappearing tomorrow, the current install base is massive. But long-term, lower maintenance is one of the main reasons electric will keep taking market share.

@shiakas Charge port assemblies, ECUs, and related clips/wiring i’ll have long documented histories of taking months of leadtime. Go back and read the title of the video. Have we reached peak ice powered dirt bikes over last few years? Sure. That’s a reasonable defensible statement. Death? No, I disagree. It’s not only wrong. It’s completely hyperbolic and misleading.

Currently rocking a Husky 4 stroke. I went that route because of range, but as I spend more time on tracks and parks the more I can see myself on an electric. Especially as we go almost every weekend and Im getting tired of filter and oil changes, checking compression, worrying about the top end, etc.

4:40 Ebikes can battery swap, that’s faster than refueling.
5:00 If it takes hours to recharge is off a trickle charger, no upgraded electrical outlets needed.
5:10 You can charge off a portable battery, an EV or solar panels.

@junito1008 You certainly can, it depends on the race. I’ve seen swaps plenty of times for 2 hour races. However, refueling is still faster, although only slightly.

At my local dirtbike races, some people do swap batteries in the pits where most people refuel. It’s still a bit slower than gas refueling, but I’ve seen it as quick as 15 seconds.

Why – because it’s an option you don’t like? I’m 61 years old and grew up with dirt bikes and muscle cars. I love the fact that we now have EV options for different forms of transportation. If you don’t want an electric dirt bike, don’t buy one.

I’d argue that not needing service centers and dealerships that tack on fees for everything is a feature of EV, not a bug. At least that’s been my lived experience. Also, having owned 4 gas dirt bikes and 1 electric dirt bike, I strongly disagree that the electric is decades away from matching. My ultra bee is better at literally everything versus my old CRF 230, for example. Try it. Unless all you do is competitive MX, you probably won’t be disappointed.

This just means you’ve not looked into the E-Moto space. Every part you could ever ask for is available. Longer swingarms, motors, controllers, throttles, brakes, wheels, anything you could possibly ask for is ready to buy right now.

@MX5-XU The rate of improvement in energy density for lithium-ion has been about 5% per year, so roughly doubling every 15 years since 1990. There is plenty of potential left in new chemistries to keep that rate going for many decades to be at least 4x the current figures. They will also get a lot safer as chemistries change from li-ion.

@MX5-XU There are already early prototype 2x batteries being tested in small trials but that density won’t likely be available to the general public in large scale for about a decade. So they are a certainty but batteries take a while to go large scale because the testing and manufacturing ramp-up take a long time, similar to new drugs.

The batteries on high end electric dirtbikes match a standard dirt bike fuel tank and can be swapped in less than 30 seconds. And they have more power with way less maintenance.

Just like E-bikes. They are a fad right now . The motorcycle companies to include Harley Davidson tried and failed. I call them 2 wheeled golf carts. Bicycles used to be for fun and exercise. A mountain bike never runs out of fuel unless the rider does. I’ve been riding motorcycles off and on for 50 years. Planning around fuel stops is effortless. Motorcycles riders have to get an endorsement. This same rule needs to apply to E-bikes with more power than a moped. The laws are trying to adapt to this growing market. I think the real market is private recreational riding. Something you can do on a pedal bike but people are too lazy to do. Modern day Adventurer sport bikes are not loud. Those chainsaw bikes at the tracks are.

Who gives AF if you’ve been around motorcycles for 50 years? I’ve been around them for 45 years, does that mean I too get to be ignorant and refuse to evolve? People said the same crap about horses 100 years ago…my horse will never let me down….blah blah. People who refuse to evolve are the most irritating people on the planet. EV is better in every possible way. And what you deniers fail to realize is that the tech right now is the Worst it will ever be. Go race a bike from the 50s or 60s against a modern bike…..SAME GD thing, Smarten up….FFS

The sell on green machines is hypocritical when the energy used to charge them is from fossil fuels. That’s the whole EV lie. Unless everyone charges them with solar panels they aren’t green. Check into how they operate in or around water. Again it’s called options , some ride a Harley Davidson and some drive a golf cart. More golf carts than HDs😂

@xHawgRyderxoright. Well I own a Nissan Leaf and a built 4Runner and I would much rather drive the EV to the store. As far as bikes go, I have an Aprilia Tuono 1000r,a Yamaha Tenere 700, and an old BMW R100S (I used to have a Road King). I just sold my ‘17 KTM 250SX (that’s a two stroke) and I am in the market for an electric dirt bike. I am busy with work and family and only get short breaks to ride so one that i don’t have to pull the carb off because of ethanol plugging the jets is appealing. Electric dirt bikes are definitely here to stay and will just keep getting better. Just like ev vehicles, if you ever owned one, you would understand…

I think e-motos have a lot to like, and a lot of improvement coming as well. I would push back on a couple of things though. 1) Weight. An e-moto that is roughly equivalent to an ICE bike in terms of performance is, right now, the same weight or heavier than a traditional gas bike. The Stark is a pig at 260+ lbs. Both of my gas bikes are less than 240 fully gassed and ready to go. 2) Maintenance. Most of the regular maintenance I do on my gas bikes has nothing to do with the engine, other than the air filter 😅. It’s adjusting the chain, replacing tires, and fixing the crap I broke from the multiple crashes while riding. All things I would still need to do on an e-moto. Other than that I am looking forward to the newcomers and what the e-moto market has in store for us!

The Ventus EVO is 150 pounds, the Artic Leopard is 170 ish. While the Varg is heavy, it’s a mistake to stereotype E-Moto’s in general as heavy, because they are not.

Electric is the future. If manufacturers haven’t figured out how to build an engine without having to do valve adjustments every 15-20 hours by now, they never will. E-motos are lighter, more powerful, cheaper, and way less maintenance. And once solid-state batteries hit the market, that will be the beginning of the end for ICE. I own a 2001 xr250 and love it. But myself, along with my friends who are all in their 50s, are getting back into riding because of e-motos. In the next 1-2 years we all plan on buying electric.

Having grown up on dirt riding, I do still appreciate the visceral feel of ICE bikes. But I’m seriously considering an e-moto for the reasons in this vid, they just make it less hassle and help you to focus on the ride and less on what you’re riding

Also, E-Moto’s range will far outlast your ability ride for that many hours. Range simply isn’t an issue unless your are going far out into the desert screaming at top speed the whole way or something.
Personally I can’t see anyone buying a gas bike from here on out. You can get the same powerful experience on an E-Moto for half the price of a gas bike. Check, Ventus, Artic Leopard, Vectra, E-Ride, Volt, Surron, Talaria, or the high dollar products like Stark or Bonnell. The Ventus Evo has a 75 HP motor installed! It’s insane! It’s detuned to 50 HP, but none the less. The bike only weighs 150 lbs. Why would you ever mess with gas again?

An electric dirt bike would be cool. I’d like to throw a leg over a Stark them seem to be the best electric dirtbike, I don’t think you can even remotely compare the Xaber to it however. The Xaber looks more like a play/pit bike, which is fine, depending on what you are going to do. So yeah, I’d probably want a Stark and a new 327 Kawi 2stroke. It’s okay to like both electric and ICE bikes I think, why not….?

I’m starting to see more and more guys out on trails with e-motos. It’s crazy, one guy just rolled up as I was at a trailhead (mixed use, hiking and motor) on my way out on a hike. I didn’t hear him until he was entering the parking lot. He just kind of picked up the bike and put it in the back of his small pickup truck. No fuel, no hot exhaust, no ramps. I don’t think range anxiety will even matter for many. The trail system he was on was maybe 10mi if he went down the different tracks. Maybe like 15-20 if he went on the forest service road around the whole loop, which would be cool, but pretty much riding on a dirt road.

it makes more sense for professional races for sure, the electric bikes can be designed with removable batteries and have bunch batteries standby for 5 sec swapping. Those new gen electric motors will keep going forever….with each battery can be recharged say 1500 times before degrading to unusable level, they probably last longer than you career…..

The stealth aspect means that you can get away riding where a combustion engine can not.
