It’s super heavy and has no provisions to carry a GoPro. Practically all cinewhoops carry a GoPro as they can use a program called ReelSteady to fully stabilize the footage. The difference in the footage smoothness is huge.

I think DJI is trtying to make a quick buck with the Avata… it is really really not impressive and very very expensive.

I just want to know how do you find it if you crash with goggles on, it’s not like a regular drone that you have a general idea of were it went down.

      August 25, 2022 at 6:35 pm

TO FIND DRONE: Tether phone to googles (phone cable+USBC to USB from DJI) I attach TILE Bluetooth trackers to drones to get local proximity (<100 feet) and audio location (beeping) as well as crowd location tracking when stolen.

      August 25, 2022 at 9:21 pm

There is video playback on the goggles too so can replay the moments before you went down along with the GPS. You should always know the proximate area where you are flying. FPV pilots normally just go off video playback and a beeper.

Isn’t DJI considered a danger by the US government?

I would have to pack a few barf bags with it before heading out.

Maybe I missed it on the video, but I see that there is a price for just the drone and then the drone with the controller and goggles…so can you just buy the drone with a traditional controller. Also, it would be cool if they had a way to track the location of the drone if it goes down some distance away in brush, for example, or at least maybe a way to trigger a light or a beeping sound on the drone so that you can home in on where it’s at if you didn’t see its exact location when it crashes.

    • Steve Slater

      August 25, 2022 at 5:56 pm

Looks like it uses DJI’s GEO 2.0 geofencing system so the drone must know where it is, but I’ve not seen anything stating the pilot can track it if it goes down (in a similar manner to the Mavic). Would be useful to have a phone link so we can home in on it.

I’m an old FPV drone hobbyist and tired of futzing with soldering wires, Betaflight, monitoring lipos, and flying via fuzzy analog FPV. I still have a boring old Mavic pro, but I might just have to finally splurge on this prebuilt cinewhoop!

  16. Steve Slater

    August 25, 2022 at 6:06 pm

Bugger! Just received the email on the Avata from DJI. Took a while to convince my wife of the essential requirement for the Mavic Pro (and VR headset!) a couple of years back. I can see that I need the Avata as an absolute requirement to function effectively in the modern world, but it’s not going to be an easy sell. (the goggles ARE a lot cooler than the original VR though (for when she’s standing next to me as spotter)) . . . . . . .

    • YorkyPoo

      August 25, 2022 at 9:22 pm

Yeah, I am trying to decide if I need it too or if I want to build a drone with a single-axis gimbal. They are just goggles BTW not VR

Defraudado totalmente con un producto en el que obligan a comprar un controlador inservible para la mayoría de los usuarios, unas gafas no compatibles con el resto de productos Fpv, no entrar en el juego de venta de dji 👎

  20. Todd P

There is no previous model of the Avata.. The FPV drone is completely different and still the latest drone in that category.. The market for these two drones are completely different

Yea the FPV drone is a totally different category and it does not dominate in that category. The Avata does appeared to be up there in the does seem to be up there in the cinewhoop market.

Is this replacing DJI FPV or there will be a DJI FPV 2? This drone kind of looks in a different category from DJI FPV, specially with this controller.

    • J4cobo

      August 26, 2022 at 10:35 am

DJI FPV have the same controllers

  24. Gabriel Velasco

    August 25, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Those “covers” or “protectors” around the propellers are not primarily for protecting the propellers. That is what is called a “ducted propeller” design. Ducted propellers have certain aerodynamic advantages because of the way that they suck air through the “duct.” Ducts can make a propeller more efficient which is good for drones to improve lift and extend flying time.

Another drone from dji to get people into fpv who probably shouldn’t do fpv. 😒 just stay away from this overpriced cheater drone. Fly the mavic if your intimidating by fpv.

Now, unless I have missed something, the new goggles would be great if they paired with my Mini 2.

  36. SteveandLizDonaldson

    August 26, 2022 at 4:58 pm

I sure hope there is a “Find my drone” section of the app. Even more useful if it’s a phone app, since I wouldn’t want to be slogging cross-country on foot wearing an fpv headset.
