Why do insurance companies reimburse for Chiropractor treatments if it’s a “pseudoscience”?

    • @JetFuelSE

      June 12, 2024 at 2:16 pm

Ever heard of the “appeal to authority” fallacy?

    • @MrRizeAG

      June 12, 2024 at 3:09 pm

Ah yes, insurance corporations, famously good arbiters of what is and isn’t medically necessary.

Never listen to someone educated only in medicine (drugs) and especially someone against natural modalities. Chiros change and no doubt in some cases save lives, it can be that dramatic with 1 adjustment

    • @alpheendomination

      June 12, 2024 at 1:51 pm

Never listen to someone who knows more biology than you? Sounds like a superiority complex.

Chiropractors do not fix anything, nor do they adjust anything. She said that chiropractic techniques may help in conjunction with something like physical therapy, that does not mean that the chiropractors themselves are addressing any underlying issue, it is purely pain relief.

    • @chillzone1337

      June 12, 2024 at 3:24 pm

nah, it’s just wasting your money. Better off doing Yoga.

So, the chiropractor didn’t put my neck back into its correct position even though the X-rays showed different? And, the chiropractor didn’t fix my son’s scoliosis Even though the X-rays showed different? Gotcha. Next time I’ll just go straight to the pain meds.

Chiropractors, homeopaths, and ayurveda practitioners should not be called as doctors.

  5. @livingiant

    June 12, 2024 at 1:39 pm

A chiropractor can be a quicker routes to physical therapy especially when the issue is minor and the doctor refuses to refer you to physical therapy and insist on giving you muscle relaxers and a printout of various stretches that may help.

My whole family have been going to a trusted chiropractor for decades now and we can’t imagine our lives without him. Same with hundreds who live in the area where he works just to see him he’s that amazing.

    • @SadAss.

      June 12, 2024 at 7:51 pm

Wow decade?? Seems like they’ve worked their temporary magic on you. If your family had gone to a physical therapist, you wouldnt have needed to go for decades lol

  10. @silnimtao

    June 12, 2024 at 3:11 pm

I wonder if this woman has ever had a pinched nerve? To say that this practice is not science is alarming. The quality of the art of the practitioner always speaks for itself.. There are plenty of quack doctors out there. Also I wonder if this woman understands how muscle memory works. Chiropractors can definitely help with pain associated with nerves in the skeletal structure naturally. I wonder if her problem with these kind of doctors is that they don’t pedal drugs. You know now trained by the pharmaceutical companies.

    • @chillzone1337

      June 12, 2024 at 3:26 pm

My wife had a pinched nerve, went to the Chiropractor and they made it 50-70% worse! It was an awful experience.

    • @silnimtao

      June 12, 2024 at 3:33 pm

@@chillzone1337 Probably wasn’t a good practitioner. Like I said depends on the persons training.

    • @silnimtao

      June 12, 2024 at 3:36 pm

Anyways if it was anything to do with her nerves medicine can only mask the problem.

    • @SadAss.

      June 12, 2024 at 7:54 pm

So you’d rather follow something a ghost believer invented rather than going to a physical therapist

  11. @SpineGevity

    June 12, 2024 at 3:31 pm

Medical practice also had some pretty sketchy practices, including blood-letting and leaches

    • @Aktomik

      June 12, 2024 at 5:13 pm

If you have to go back to something the group you’re talking about did centuries ago to discredit them instead of what scientific evidence shows right now you’re probably on the wrong side. Chiropractors cause seizures and hurt kids, its a dangerous pseudo science with no evidence it works better than a much safer massage.

  13. @MarcAntonio444

  14. @misszsazsa6288

    June 12, 2024 at 4:26 pm

They’re quacks. I know people who go regularly for ‘treatments’ to maintain their health. Should I laugh or just roll my eyes? They claim it does marvelous things for them but I see it a ‘The Placebo Effect’, pure and simple.

  15. @cynthiavanteylingen7922

    June 12, 2024 at 4:28 pm

I liftes something to heavy for me. Couldnt walk and had to move like ivar the boneless through my house. They may not be real doctors. But with out them i wouldnt be able to walk anymore. Another tip for those with joint issues. Quit gluten food. That helped me out a lot too. Warm blankets when ur resting and ice packs when u have to go out driving. Those didnt fix but they did reduce the pain.

  16. @rebecca5343

    June 12, 2024 at 5:02 pm

A chiropractor was the only thing that helped with my mother’s back pain after a car crash. But that was also one of the ones more on the side of physiotherapy, leaning more towards using tools/massage to help loosen your muscles and improve range of motion

  17. @eas2252

    June 12, 2024 at 6:42 pm

My wife is a physical therapist. Her take on PT vs Chiropractic.
PTs goal is to evaluate you, come up with a treatment plan, treat you for a few weeks to a few months and never see you again.
Chiropractic- “We’ll see you once or twice a week for the rest of your life.”

  26. @chrismomo32

    June 13, 2024 at 12:19 pm

If your bones are out of place it affects blood flow and the nerves. Yeah some chiros are quacks, but in general- putting your bones back where they belong is beneficial to health. It’s not a pseudo science. It’s real science. They are offering it now as “bone manipulation” in medical offices. It’s the same thing under a different name. I needed a shoulder surgery according to a medical doctor. I had subluxated my shoulder ligaments. It’s was fixed in 10 minutes when I received the correct adjustment. Been 5 years- no more issues. So for some things chiros can really help. It’s not science even as much as common sense.

We had a guy come give his testimony at our church who was also coincidentally a chiropractor. He had a slide show which also gave pricing and alleged benefits of his services. He ended up sounding alot like a cult leader and really gave me the creeps.

Are there back doctors that aren’t chiropractors?

  32. @snowysadventures3698

Well heres the thing. I had cheonic neck pain for a long time. And guess what, my ribcage was misaligned.

Way to theow the shadiest of shade to a profession where the outcome is relief. Yeah i go back eventually just as i go to a physio eventually. I dont live the healthiest life but i do my best but a chiro helps a lot.

  48. @j4rey989

    June 13, 2024 at 8:53 pm

There are pahalwans(wrestlers) in North India, and as wrestling goes, it’s fairly often, you’d get something dislocated or sprain something. Some pahalwans are really good at setting it back.

I have never seen a general physician sitting back in dislocated joints or fixing sprains. Doctors would just bandage it up and then advise warm compression.

I thought a chiropractor is a field and study where these pahalwans naturally learned through pass down knowledge.

Had a weird sneeze. When my neck got strained I couldn’t move my left should it was like pinched up. Got to a chiropractor and was able to move. I’m not old by any means but they fixed the problem right than and there.

  58. @Voodoofairy88

    June 14, 2024 at 9:00 pm

I can’t hear the word “chiropractor” without getting the giggles.
I have a cyst in the center of my spinal cord. Way back when chiropractors were the latest new craze & they’d get call lists & just randomly call people to come in for a “free evaluation.”
I took advantage of a few just to see their reaction. It’s amazing how quickly they decide they can’t help you when you actually know why you have that pain & can’t blow smoke at you. They know if they touch you & anything at all goes wrong, you will own the rest of their lives.
    🤭🤭

  59. @DanielGalland

Chiropractic is a scam for everyone who hasn’t had a life altering adjustment. Not that it CANT be a scam but to say it’s a full blown pseudoscience is shortsighted at best.

Propaganda. My back waw fked after an accident when I was 16, could not walk. The doctors said they couldn’t do anything and gave me some painkillers. I then went to the chiropractor and he fixed me there and then. Never had a problem since, and I’m 29 now. They need to study for 10 years, just like doctors do. They are…in fact…legit.

  97. @johncocksmith2693

    June 15, 2024 at 9:08 pm

There’s a ton of misinformation here.
Probably the most egregious is conflating DO with DC.
DC is a chiropractor, while a DO is an alternative in the US to MD (medical doctor). DO’s have essentially the same scope of practice as an MD.

If you’re surprised that chiropractors aren’t “real doctors”, wait till you hear about optometrists, dentists, podiatrists, veterinarians, pharmacists, and psychologists. You’re going to be in for a real shock.

I can’t speak for chiropractors in the US, but here in Canada, where the profession is a lot more tightly regulated, basically zero of the actually practice the type of practice that Palmer advocated for. They are essentially the equivalent to a DPT.
On that note, did you know that around the same time as Palmer (late 1800s), real doctors prescribed cocaine, heroine, radium water, as well as a million other whacky things.

I’ve been going to a chiropractor for a couple years to help with my neck and back pain and has actually helped somewhat. Is it a permanent solution, no, but I have been having a hard time finding a doctor to help me in my area, so it is a temporary solution the alleviates the pain.

I go to a chiropractor once in a while, because they can generally crack the few things I can’t, and it definitely does feel really good for a while, but long term it’s so nothing.

What I will say is that if someone is suffering because of a problem, and chiropractic stuff makes them feel better to the point that they can now change whatever happened in their life that made them suffer, then it’s good. Chiropracty is not a treatment, or a solution to pain, but for some it’s a temporary stopgap that can make them capable of proper change and treatment.

    June 17, 2024 at 8:16 pm

I know they’re not real doctors but they did help my mom a lot when she threw her back out (I think that’s the saying). One day about 8 years ago she sat down and couldn’t get up after, could barely move her back or neck. My dad had to support her as she walked. She’d always had lower back problems but it was never really this bad, so my dad took her to the chiropractor to see if they could fix her. She was there for an hour or two, I can’t remember exactly, but she came out perfectly fine as if nothing had even happened. No recovery time was needed beyond that. Compare that to a more recent event where she laid down on the couch and her back seized up, the first time this happened since the previous event, and we couldn’t get her anywhere appointment until 3 days later. The pain didn’t go away that whole time, and she had to stay in her room because walking down the stairs was too painful. However, once we got her an appointment and she went, she felt immediately so much better when she got back, and she could walk without my dad’s support. A couple hours of sleep later, she was good as new and could hold my baby brother again. Chiropractors may not be real doctors, but I’m really grateful for how they helped my mom.

My chiropractor has helped alleviate back pain, addressed serious menstrual issues, assisted in managing head aches and sleep concerns and over all been a part of a better quality of life. This being said, it’s couple with PT, weekly massage, and I see my chiropractor one a week. It’s not instant and it sometimes requires changes to your life style. Seriously though, massage and chiropractics have done far more than a doctor throwing medication at me does.

  157. @Sophie-kd8nq

    June 18, 2024 at 6:05 am

So I had daily headaches which put me into bed every evening for at least 5 hours despite NSAIDs and I went to the gp, had creams and injections and medicated bandaids, went to multiple physios, went to TCM out of despair and nothing was helping noticeably. As a girl of Science I was getting more and more desparate to rid myself of it, yet the evidence based treatments were not working. I went to a reiki healer (BS) and lastly to a chiropractor. This was after 8 months of suffering. I didn’t expect much honestly. After the first time, I felt better, I thought it was just my hope deluding me. After the second time I had no pain for 3 days. I was shocked. After the third time, I didn’t have pain till my fourth appointment 2 weeks later. I had another adjustment and even at the follow up 8 weeks later I only had a headache once! I was crying as I talked to this man. Half a year later I had another episode and instantly went to him again. Gone. I haven’t had that form of suffering in the last 8 years. Whatever happened there, sheer luck or skill or timing or whatever it was. I’m so greatful, even if the science is whack. Apparently he was also quite famous as being one of the two that are good in my part of the country.
I’ve also heard terrible stories of people ending up in horrible situations, suddenly wheelchair bound. It can definitely go wrong. So I’m not sure in general if it makes any sense, but personally, I can’t say anything exept it gave me my life back. As a 16 year old I couldn’t have imagined living with that pain for the rest of my life.

A chiropractor literally fixed my friend’s back (who children used to bully by calling him quasimodo) in 3 month and at this point he has a better posture than i do. Also, no one in this country gets called a doctor unless they actually are a Medical Doctor. So, therapists, psychologists and all other professions related to medicine are never doctors. If they did their Phd they can say they have a PhD in xyz but they are never referred to as doctors

Chiropractors are doctors. They just aren’t MEDICAL doctors (usually). Psychologists technically aren’t ‘doctors’ by some standards, but that isn’t

My parents went to doctors with practices which were focused on pain management, and rehab. Both of them went to the chiropractor as an alternative to using pain medication. My mom has Post-Polio syndrome, and my dad was dealing with the longterm effects of a back injury.

  187. @SinoMaticPayne

    June 19, 2024 at 5:01 pm

There are definitely benefits to chiropractics if it’s coupled with physical therapy to fix imbalances. I injured my leg when I was young. Started walking easy on it to avoid pain. Before you know it I’ve walked with a slight limp for 10 years. My hips weren’t aligned, my spine, and my knees were all out of wack. Went to 3 chiropractic adjustments, coupled with physical Therapy to basically relearn to walk and run, and stand correctly. And I’ve been keeping those habits. And my pain is gone. Chiropractic is never the answer but there is definitely data that shows it can be a beneficial supplement to the answer.

When i had severe nerve pain in my leg and lower back i went to this chiropractor who was pretty honest about it only being a temporary “fix” for the pain. He then sent me to physical therapy. Just got to get a good one who doesn’t try and scam you.

My chiropractor in high school was a neurologist. Thanks to him, it fixed my neck not having enough curve in it, which was causing constant migraines. The doctors I was seeing said only spinal surgery would fix it. I will always be thankful for him.

Quacks, is the word to describe these fake non-healers. I know several dummies who have visited chiropractor’s for 20 years. If they were real doctors they would have fixed their problem years ago but instead you make their Mercedes Benz payments for these clowns.

I’m ok with my chiropractor performing adjustment for a minor issue. Every once in a while, I’ll sleep in the wrong side of the bed and my neck becomes so stiff that it becomes very painful to turn my head. My chiropractor will adjust my neck and I’ll absolutely get the relief i need. I wouldn’t trust him for other issues.

Palmer believed that the body has an infinite supply of power to heal itself, and that any illness or pain was caused by the nervous system being disjointed. Palmer though that by simply re-alligning the nerves the power can be transmitted and cure whatever ailments a patient may have.

My question is why the smear campaign against Chiropractors. Feels like 10 years ago nobody talked about them even if you knew they werent “real” doctors.

Nowadays I see videos and articles constantly reminding us they aren’t real doctors. Never even used one in my life so I have no real opinion on them, only saying what I noticed.

Chiropractors are not MD’s, it’s not a pseudoscience; Hippocrates was a chiropractor. That’s long before DD Palmer.

  229. @therealwilldone

    June 21, 2024 at 12:07 pm

See, just dismissing it is not wise either. One visit to a decent bone cracker and you have immediate relief, now that painkillers are hard to get, even a small amount of relief is worth it, more when you are getting bounced between doctors who just pass the buck. Yeah it is not magic and some think it cures all, but also sometimes you just need something to pop and the pain is gone.

  233. @shades_of_cool7178

    June 21, 2024 at 2:39 pm

Have a family friend who keeps having to get back surgery to fix the last mistake made on him. All in all with life everyone’s just giving an educated guess that’s why we have malpractice laws.

  234. @murtaghmorzansson

    June 21, 2024 at 3:04 pm

It’s definitely helps some people, but I’m honestly too scared of being hurt by a bad chiropractor to ever go see one. Just too much risk for me.

  235. @ashley1358

oh they are a huge industry much like all healthcare is in the US, here in Canada we have conservative idiots trying to make our healthcare like the US.

  237. @AdemirZX

    June 21, 2024 at 4:30 pm

I think of chiropractors as “fancy masseurs”

  238. @HelenFire420

    June 21, 2024 at 4:41 pm

Until someone links me a triple blind peer reviewed study on how chiropractors significantly improved anything, then they are still quacks to me. Also, if your “evidence” is facebook posts or anecdotal it doesn’t count. “You just have to take my/our word” is meaningless.

    June 21, 2024 at 6:21 pm

    That’s why I use DO’s

  243. @turbomustang84

    June 21, 2024 at 6:48 pm

Why ? Because you are not very knowledgeable I’m guessing
but I personally know several chiropractors .

and there are patients that swear by them and the fact they are not medical doctors doesn’t diminish their skill or training.

I personally have not been treated by them with a positive result but others do so I won’t judge

    • @lespaul5734

      June 21, 2024 at 6:57 pm

Some people swear by homeopathy, exorcisms, chakra allignment, etc… Anecdotes of success aren’t proof that it works, especially since confirmation bias is a thing.

What matters is what the evidence and science shows. Studies are conducted all the time on the validity of different therapies, chiropractic therapies too. For every person you know that swears by it, you are ignoring countless more that have not seen any positive results at the medium to long term.

  244. @dabirdalton

    June 21, 2024 at 7:11 pm

If it weren’t for a chiropactor I would be a cripple today due to medical malpractice.

  245. @ioannispaxinos5171

    June 21, 2024 at 7:45 pm

I thought it was just another word for physical therapist. I didn’t realize it was closer to reiki than physical therapy. Gosh… is there any field for which Americans haven’t invented a fraudulant alternative?

  246. @jcartist5881

    June 21, 2024 at 7:58 pm

Still didnt answer the question Miss
