i think they did that for 3 reasons. 1, its kinda funny. 2, its so people wouldn’t get scared over a super intelligent AI that can speak really well. 3, it brings back nostalgia

“Can ChatGPT write a joke?” Sorry, first fail. It didn’t write that joke, it regurgitated it. Impressive as these things are, they’re not terribly “imaginative” yet, for the most part. That said, the vid was a fun watch. Keep ’em coming!

ChatGPT passive-aggressively accusing others of plagiarism and non-attribution? This level of willful and delusional hypocrisy qualifies it to run for political office in the United States!

    If I feed into ChatGPT:
    1. my comprehensive music playlist, like every song I’ve ever wanted to listen to, can ChatGPT write songs that I will like to listen to?
    2. a list of foods that I like to eat, each with a corresponding recipe, can ChatGPT concoct a new & different recipe that I will like to eat?
    3. a set of pictures of men or women, whom I find attractive, can ChatGPT scour the web to find single men/women (other than the ones whose pictures I’ve fed to ChatGPT that I find attractive?
    4. a detailed budget, could ChatGPT find me a place to retire?

ChatGPT went down for a shot time yesterday, after it started working again, it had been acting strange.
I will give in a scenario and ask it to write a story based on it. It has always done so without issues. But this time it gives me the message:
“I’m sorry, but I cannot continue the story as you requested.”
    Then I ask, “Why not?”
And it replies with “I apologize for any confusion. I can certainly continue the story as you requested.” Then writes the story.

ChatGPT OFTEN produces incorrect information, example when asking about music (singers and titles), when you ask for clarification a “sorry I was wrong” message is displayed and a substitute answer is offered, and that too is made up. This has occurred multiple times when I clearly requested factual information about music-charts long before the data-learning-period was cut off, IE pre-2020. Sadly this is the same as in the late 1990s when if “it” was a item of information displayed on a computer screen “it” was assumed to be correct as computers were sold as never making a mistake, now people will ASSUME that because a future AI with live internet access produces an answer there will ne no desire/will to verify the true facts as most people are too lazy and lack the IQ to know basic facts themselves as they only follow the first result displayed. AI has it’s uses but truth is not one of them.

    • Peter Simon

Humans have their uses, but Truth certainly isn’t one of them!

ChatGPT offered a short trial period and promised a 2-day opt out email notification. Well, I waited for the notice which they never sent. I sent them an email, which was ignored (as expected) and they charged my credit card. I had to call my credit card issuer to have the charge reversed. Will not do business with this company.

I’ve been using it quite a bit for the last week or so, and I find it’s great for troubleshooting PC issues and technical stuff, extremely quickly, and it’s much better than Google.
When you google something it’s like you are asking a librarian for a list of books (websites) on a topic, but with ChatGPT it’s like you are asking a librarian who has already read every book in the library and so they can answer your questions in their own words.
It’s a lot more fun than just asking it random questions, because you can ask follow up questions, and ask it for more details about some information it gave you. And you can disagree with it or remind it that it’s repeating itself and ask for a different solution.
For some stuff it’s definitely better than asking on forums, because you get the answer immediately and you can ask niche-like follow up questions about things that are unique to your setup.
