It’s not that bad. The button along with being able to change the camera button on the Lock Screen makes it easier. Now I can set my action button to flashing and the new button for camera. Giving me the options to add two new actions for what’s on my lock screen.

Might be time to switch off of Apple and go back to something else because this just ain’t it the software sucks too. It’s worse and worse every year.

Steve, Jobs never would have allowed this to happen. Let’s just hope they make cases that covers up this stupid useless button

I have what they call piano fingers (long) and for me it’s super awkward, my thumb is too long and my fingers aren’t long enough.

    • @DifferentAverage

      September 27, 2024 at 8:20 pm

@@jaydanielstech In hindsight, I could see it being awkward for most people. Works for me since I’m 6’2 and have pretty large hands, but hopefully they can improve it for next year 🤞.

  20. @hitf5

    September 27, 2024 at 6:43 pm

The button is not great. It is nothing like a real camera. The slide functionality is very stuttering and clumsy. Getting to the different functions is not intuitive or easy. I frequently accidentally press the button when grabbing the phone. No one asked for this, but here we are. There is no comparison between this and the MacBook touch bar which at least had some functionality. This is just an extra thing that complicates and it is far easier to just use the touch screen. No we add to the fact most cases just have a hole for this button and it makes it even harder to use. I agree with BC – this thing is bad.

It seems more like you’re the only reviewer struggling… is it perfect? No… is it bad though?? Not at all… they’ve just added another way for the user to access/operate the camera. And it’s clearly designed for landscape use, in which I bet most Pro Users would shoot.

It’s the most useless feature ever and the silent – mute button is annoying because you press it by accident

  47. @Miguel-Del

    September 28, 2024 at 12:00 pm

You know what makes this issue even more comical? The touch-sensitivity stuttering issue for the new camera button is likely caused by Apple’s own shady iOS practices. How do I know? Anyone who’s tried using a non-Apple mouse or trackpad with iPadOS knows the polling rate is god awful. That’s to say, external devices not engineered by Apple suffer from horrible stuttering when scrolling in iPadOS. The issue in question is “Polling Rate.” Since we know iPadOS is a fork of iOS, and we know Apple intentionally neuters the polling rate of external touch sensitive peripherals, this is THE best explanation for why the touch sensitive camera button has a choppy polling rate. Now, the real question is, how could Apple ship a fully integrated touch sensitive button without ensuring iOS would process the feedback with the smooth polling rate all other Apple peripherals benefit from? It’s madness, and it’s the cherry on top of a disappointing bug that Apple intentionally maintains in order to sell more peripherals.

I just use it as a quick launch and capture. Change settings from that button is just a bad design but hey at least Apple gave users a choice for once. I’m an android guy primarily but I like it. Something different. Don’t complain if you have a choice. Just use the screen it’s up to you!!!
