This is the future of computing. If you look at what Varjo is doing in the enterprise and industrial metaverse, you will be able to the future of the consumer metaverse very clearly. It is only a matter of time. And yes, the headset has to have pass through capabilities, it must be invisible in a way that the physical and the digital world merge seamlessly together.

      May 29, 2023 at 12:40 pm

Why not just have a cover one can put on for VR and take off for AR rather than having cameras for pass-through?

    • Minhaj Malik

      May 29, 2023 at 1:37 pm

@Chukwudi Ezeukwu it’s not that easy, if the display is transparent or translucent it will lose brightness, colour and contrast. It will not look as good.

Most people don’t even realize that the economy is collapsing and there is an increasing rate of unemployment worldwide so take advantage and prepare while things are still on the shelf in the store

Which one should we get? The Apple headset. It’s a no brainer. The other headsets are borderline useless if you’re not into gaming. And honestly even gaming at this point is pretty mediocre on most headsets. I think Apple might actually win. Comfort, passthrough, and integration with our existing devices (phones and laptops) will be huge.

    • Gogo

      May 29, 2023 at 3:38 pm

Price is the issue for most when considering the Apple headset. $3,000

    • Phoenix Playground

      @Gogo is it confirmed? 🤔

    • OW

      May 29, 2023 at 4:53 pm

@Gogo not confirmed yet however when people were willing to pay $2000 for a phone (Z Fold) im sure $3000 isn’t the worst thing.

For me, the best AR glasses have similar feature like Nreal Air which portable virtual monitors but wireless connect via screen mirroring but the only problem right now is the batteries which effect the design or Apple can make it separately but user need to use powerbank instead of iPhone or IPad.

    May 29, 2023 at 11:29 am

I hope this encourages other companies to release hardware revisions. The PS VR2 could be improved in a number of small ways.

I’m very excited, but remember just how many dub dubs went by with me thinking “this is the year they do a watch”. And that was just a watch.

Still, I’m a slow learner, so here’s hoping they have super-inconspicuous Apple glasses for every day usage! 😅

I hope this crash fast so we can finally put an end to this crazy VR/AR fad, 7 years of hype that never end somewhere.

    • RelaxTake30

      May 29, 2023 at 1:52 pm

Sorry to break it to you, but it’s never going away. It is the future, and this headset is only the beginning

    • PED Garage

      May 29, 2023 at 1:58 pm

@RelaxTake30 it has been “the future” for the last 10 years, there are barely 10 apps worth using, maybe, the moltitude of headsets only make everthing worse, the metaverse is a joke and the apple headset will not change anything.

    • Vincent Pride

      May 29, 2023 at 6:07 pm

@PED Garage VR made a big leap in the last 10 years, but it’s still mostly held back by hardware and by Meta with its patent wars. Oculus was a little bit early back then, now it’s much better time to give VR / AR second breath – hardware is getting just right up to the task

    • RelaxTake30

      May 29, 2023 at 7:34 pm

@PED Garage vr/ar are in its infancy, major players have yet to even enter the market. Samsung, Google, etc. vr/ar are equivalent to computers in the 1980s. Technology takes time to progress, you just seem to lack patience.

    • joelface

      May 30, 2023 at 10:21 pm

@RelaxTake30 Agreed. The tech has a few inconvenient aspects that keep the average person from using it. Once those technical limitations are resolved, everyone will jump on board. But, I ALSO think that people need volumetric video capture devices as well as the headsets. It isn’t until people are CREATING their own VR content that they’ll really want to be using such a device to share and receive that content from friends and family.

  17. Jay Garcia

Either they’re extremely late to the party with this headset or it can resurrect VR 🤔

  18. Anjan Saha

Ya i’m really interested to see what apple does. But I’d rather have multi tasking on iPhone and a better Siri as the next update. That’s really needed

Whoever cracks the motion sickness problem wins.

  21. Tech&Science

    May 29, 2023 at 4:13 pm

It must be able to be used as multiple monitors, and it must look like as real one, in that case it is cheaper to pay $3.000 for 3 VR monitors that you can use it anywhere, in plane, nature..

    • Phoenix Playground

      May 29, 2023 at 5:27 pm

Continuity still need wifi along with bt. Are you suggesting sim card version of headset?

  22. Phoenix Playground

    May 29, 2023 at 4:53 pm

Apple has been building their patented technology towards this headset slowly over the year. Spatial Audio from Airpod, Lidar from iPhone, U1 (proximity awareness for gestures controller) from iPhone, Mac, Airtag, Airpod, Continuity (seamless integration with all other devices including MacOS, iOS) from Mac and iPhone, Facial recognition and Memoji for avatar profile, Arcade for gaming, geometric awareness from Watch, motion awareness from Watch and so on. It’s not like these techs are new, Apple has been laying the groundwork for sometimes. Let’s see how far they will improve these techs for their headset.

  24. stevensonrf

    May 29, 2023 at 8:32 pm

VR headsets are yesterday’s tech. They’re like 3-D TVs; here today; gone tomorrow. The VR headset ship has already sailed. VR headsets are just novelties not true innovation.

    • joelface

      May 30, 2023 at 10:17 pm

I disagree. 360-degree, fully immersive media is the future. But I think the tech just isn’t QUITE there yet.

    • stevensonrf

      May 30, 2023 at 10:30 pm

@joelface I think it’s like foldable phones; again, just a novelty; not true innovation. Even Brian Tong said that hasn’t used his VR headset in months.

    • joelface

      May 30, 2023 at 11:30 pm

@stevensonrf I really think that has to do with the lack of content though. I’ll give you one thing, VR headsets are isolating. I can’t quite imagine sitting down to watch a show with my wife, and then we both put headsets on instead of watching the TV together. And yet, it really does open up so many possibilities for immersive storytelling — not to mention how cool it would be to have fully 3D LIFE-SIZE videos of your vacation that you can walk around in and see from every angle. Surely that’s worth having, instead of sticking with a small 2D screen we look at from across the room, or from a tiny phone in our hand. Surely you want more than that.

Ya no. There is nothing fun to do in VR or AR. The games just are not there. Hopefully some day I can just ask an AI to make me a VR game I would actually fully enjoy. I am so sad at how feeble this VR stuff turned out. There is just no content. The bread is stale.

  33. Ty

  34. Mihai Popa

    May 30, 2023 at 7:11 pm

No matter how much it is rumored and expected, you cannot say “upcoming” if it’s not officially announced yet. The way you guys and many other media outlets keep reporting on this is quite weird and a bit annoying too 😅

  35. JoeyBoBoey

    May 30, 2023 at 9:27 pm

Most important thing will be the eye strain and motion/flicker nausea. Even if you have your VR legs, these can present issues with extended or repetitive use.
