Is world of warcraft or Lol not standard PC gaming for graphics?

You forgot to play Doom 😏
Seriously though, good review, but you needed to inform folks to use cheaper, but still very fast, Thunderbolt 4 external enclosures with inexpensive Gen 4 NVMe SSD’s. They are the key to avoiding the Apple Tax on storage. And 16GB of ram is plenty for all but the most power hungry users out there. You don’t have to spend a lot to get a lot. The base model I’m using is the most powerful Mini I’ve ever used, and I had the latest and greatest from that former lineup. Best Apple product of 2024, period.

Memory and SSd jumps are insane. In teh process of building a new PC and my 2TB PCIE 5.0 drive was $200. No one games on a Mac anyway.

The overpriced, non-user upgradable memory / storage upgrade options is a deal breaker for me. I would only consider getting the M4 Mini for someone who needs something simple to use to go on the web or work on some documents.

As a person who stays in a country where Apple products can be excessively expensive – there’s already signs that this mac mini with the value at such a low price (even locally compared to windows options at the price) that this is the ecosystem bait that will drive more device sales down the line

I have multiple Apple devices – Apple watch (3), air pods, phone (2), iPad (2), TV, and a Macbook Pro, however, IMO the $600 base Mac Mini 4 does not deserve the hype. It only has 256GB of storage which is what you would find in a 2005 computer. You can easily buy a MiniPC from multiple manufacturers with a comparable Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU, 1TB of storage and 32GB of memory for $650. Many MiniPC’s support Occulink, have a display port, a 2.5GB LAN, plus a few USB 3.2 ports.

Go check the YT benchmarks and real world tests, nome of them even come close to the mini, even the top of the line.
Besides, in 2005 no computer came with SSD, Apple included SSD with the second MacBook Air in 2008, and i remember buying my first 256GB SATA in 2010 and was damn expensive to the 3 x 2TB WD Black HDDs!
You can get away with 256Gzb + fast Thunderbolt NVME drive, or upgrade the SSD only to 512 and you still get better computer than the rest of garbage out there! Or go the Pro base model and beat almost all PCs including top of the line with 7-10years of great experience, reliability, performance and low power consumption while you can still get the best resale value of any other machine.
I got the pro and I’m blown away, it chews everything GFX, editing, programming, AI, design, everything. It’s totally underrated especially at this price point, tiny size, quietness and power efficiency and no temperature increase!
I dont game, i work, but there are plenty of options and workarounds to game on. Main gaming is a dedicated console, side gaming, this can chew even some AAA, and more AAA are coming in 2025 and with Apple Game porting Kit, the HW is more than impressive and capable.

If you are like me, and want a computer to last around 5 to 10 years. I would say it’s worth it to get the pro or the M4 with 24 gigs. Sharing my experience using the basic version Macs. I was happy using that version for about 2 years. After that, the computer did seem slow to do simple things. Now I recently bought the M2 pro. I expect it to last me a good for a long time.

Curious: I see you’re using a Studio Display. When you’re gaming at 1080p, where is the scaling to 5K being done? By the Mini before it leaves the device, or does the Display scale the 1080p image to 5K? Would gaming be improved if you used a monitor that matched the resolution set in-game?

I’m on my second M4Mini. I may just be unlucky, but they just wont load properly from a timemachine backup. Worse, the computer won’t even reinstall the OS properly after that failed attempt. My second machine has 24Megs memory and now 512Gigs storage. OK my TM backup is almost 1TB but you can select what you back up right? Well, to a degree. There is no option with the System dir – the one that holds all the setting you need. IT can’t be selectively transferred – even if it is gigantic – almost 256 Gb by itself in my case so a 512Gb replacement was got – within a day too. Brilliant support work there Apple. Less so from Tech Support who had never found a TM backup being attempted to a smaller SSD. Well, I can’t afford 1Tb for the M4 – I’m using an external SSD – but – the M4 won’t see it… I’ve taken hours to get nowhere. Wiping the disc and trying from scratch now – Install time 9hours it says. Been there, done that, it didn’t work last time – I accidentally hit the hidden OFF button at the wrong time. I ended up with a frozen blurred Sequoia BG image with the computer talking about VoiceOver setup commands – which by the way, also didn’t work. UNIMPRESSED !!!

I checked one out at the Apple Store last weekend. The employee said many of his peers are buying them even if they don’t need another device. Everyone is falling in love with the M4 Mini. 😍🥰

Wow what a short video ! The new Mac mini is such a big deal in the computer industry! The M4 Pro beats every windows Desktop even the highest end Treadripper and top shelf Intel CPU.
This tiny computer deserves more love!
