Dude uses this to edit content?! Of all the YouTubers who got this that’s the absolutely only person I’ve heard say they would use it for editing. That feels … less than believable.

It’s basically an iPad on your face. No one I’ve heard of is intentionally using an iPad to edit (when they have other options).

  4. @zero11010

    August 3, 2024 at 11:41 am

Still never heard anyone talk about using it for productivity because no one wants to wear it for more than an hour or two because it’s uncomfortable. Using it to write an email is fine. Using it to work for an 8 hour day? No one does that.

    • @user-sz8ce8lg4f

@@user-sz8ce8lg4f You’re saying you wear your vision pro for 8 hours a day? One person mentioned the generic word productivity with no other details. Another person said they would edit video on theirs (I’ve not heard of ANYONE intentionally doing this).

What kinds of software are even available on this to assist with your work? There’s no real computing power. So, you’re … what … using it for web browser interfaces for the software setups you use? I don’t want to pry, but I’m trying to get an idea for the kind of work you do and what kind of impact the hardware would have on you.

I’m a software engineer. The fundamental IDE I would need to write code doesn’t exist for them. I could … do web interface stuff for some of my work. Certainly email and slack. But, for real work this would just function as a $4,000 monitor set up for my macbook pro.

@@user-sz8ce8lg4f What do you do for work? One person vaguely said they “use it for productivity” but didn’t specify.

How many hours do you spend using this for work when you’re using it for work?

Literally every single video I’ve seen about it specifically says it’s uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour or two.

There also are minimal apps on it to actually get work done. So, the best use case for productivity is to use it as a $4,000 monitor for a separate macbook pro or whatever (which costs another 3k+).

The channel 6 Months Later just released a video on it today. They also said it’s not useful for productivity.

Not everyone is the same. Comfort levels are case by case and I’ve met people in VRchat who practically live there. The Vision Pro has its audience of power users I’m sure.
Me being a Quest 3 owner I can go without using it, or maybe a few hours at a time. Sometimes it’s nice to spend stormy/blizzard day with VR.

Thought it was dumb prior to release, in the early days, and still do. If you need a tethered battery pack at all times, why not offset some of the computing to the thing in your pocket rather than the thing you need to wear on your face? I really wish Apple went with like Xreal type glasses and computing being done elsewhere rather than going with putting everything on your face.

    • @smittyvanjagermanjenson182

      August 3, 2024 at 6:21 pm

Apples design philosophy dictates that all components are built as close together as possible, to mitigate latency. Off loading the processing into the battery pack would be the opposite.

    • @MrGelowe

      August 3, 2024 at 7:32 pm

@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 Unless it is adding latency and lowering audio quality to audio by removing moving a wire. Maybe Apple should try something new in VR segment, like not strapping a computer to the face. Might be too much to ask of Apple to fix the existing problem in VR space… you know create powerful hardware that actually can be used for long periods of time.

Have you tried one of these systems, AVP or A Meta Quest 3? They have multiple uses cases when it comes to entertainment value. The only off putting thing about them are the fact that both are quite large at this stage. Smart raybans with displays and interaction will be wildly popular wearables.

  19. @eyeDavid

    August 3, 2024 at 5:41 pm

  23. @MVIVN

For me, as someone who’s been using VR headsets for years, I liked the hype around it because I thought it would result in an explosion of new VR apps and experiences for ALL vr headsets, but it hasn’t had any noticeable impact at all. Meta and the Quest 3 still seems to be the epicentre of all things VR at the moment, no one even talks about the Vision Pro at all anymore. Plus, they’ve taken way too long to launch it in other countries so people around the world who were eagerly anticipating it have lost interest.

  29. @sashogs

Got one, love the vision os but I’m going to return the face brick!

It’s like a fancy looking brick on my face, vision os (Vision OS 2 even better) is great which is what these people are really talking about but I can’t get immersed or remain immersed because of the weight of a brick on my face unless I get a nerdier headstrap like a halo. So going to return it until we get a vision air or vision pro 2 without some of the gimmicky tech like the front lcd display and hopefully using lighter materials. The battery brick and it’s cable is annoying but I rather have an annoying brick in my pocket then on my head! So I’m ok with that surprisingly.

    • @joelface

      August 4, 2024 at 12:31 pm

I also like that you’ll be able to easily replace the battery several years down the line without having to do surgery on the headset as well. And they could easily release a high capacity battery at some point as well, etc. I get your complaint about the weight, but you should definitely consider a better headstrap first.

It’s such a shame you can’t choose and customize your persona to look exactly how you want it😡. Instead, it’s just based on your real face. HUGE dealbreaker for people who are ugly like me and want to use VR as a way too escape that. The Meta Quest 3 on the other hand, allows you to choose everything about your appearance. You can be as hot and pretty of a girl as you want, which is pretty much the main reason I even use the Quest in the first place, ngl. While the Meta avatars do look a bit too cartoonist in my opinion, I still MUCH prefer them over the restrictive personas on the AVP

I’ve had it on a plane and it was fantastic. Also took it on vacation on a cruise ship and it was fantastic there too. I’m also grown (cough…old…cough) enough to remember how people thought the early adopters of cell phones looked like morons from a dystopian future. Same went for the AirPods. This too shall pass.
