Aug.18 — Apple Inc. threatened to remove Epic Games Inc.’s developer account, cut off its developer tools and limit its ability to supply key graphics technology to other apps in the latest skirmish in a battle over app store fees. The iPhone maker’s plans were disclosed in a court filing by Epic on Monday. The developer has asked a California federal court to block Apple’s removal of the popular Epic game Fortnite from the App Store. Epic sued Apple last week over the move. Bloomberg Opinion columnist Alex Webb has the details on “Bloomberg Surveillance.” The views expressed are his own.

For trying to stand up to Apple. Apple has an army of lawyers that vet their licenses, policies and agreements, so they probably were expecting certain companies would launch sneaky anti-trust violations and against Apple, and they kept tabs on them. Apple claims it has “recently found” violations related to the unreal engine, and will indeed terminate Epic’s Apple-developer privileges.

Because fortnite is losing money while apple gobbles 30% of company’s that are on the App Store. Fortnite is suing because apple allows companies that they bow down to do whatever they want

dandagod official You can think of it this way, which is sort of true, but Epic has no problem with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo taking the exact 30% rate off of in-app purchases. All of these companies have a fair point of view which is they built the platform and made substantial investment in software development and they expect to get it back through services like Developer Kits and the App Store. Think of it as going to the County Fair, or a Mall, to setup shop and sell your product, such institutions have to charge you so they can make money and continue making the mall/county fair better by providing security, shelves, and a payment processing system. If you don’t want that, you can setup shop outside of their area (Sideloading) and pay city fees yourself, and Epic tried doing that on Android, but the customers didn’t want to side load Fortnite because most users didn’t know how.

@gin No they don’t. Tencent has around 40% of the company, but Tim Sweeney has more than 50%, effectively giving him complete control over Epic.
