I love this discussion! Both of them are amazing people! you can see them and you feel them and your heart warms and your eyes tear up when they talk and show their feeling. They both should be in power and in charge of their nations! Why we don’t vote and support them to run their nations? Why we don’t give them more platforms? Why we only hear from them on TED? Thank God! we at least we have TED. share this with everyone, if you love peace and both nations. share it.

Facts verify: Since 1948 Arabs have refused every peace deal offered which includes any Jews living from “river to sea”.
They officially demand to create a new apartheid Islamic state at UN since.
No more two state solutions..
Enough!
Nonsense!

It’s a pity they have absolutely no policy influence. Both sides want total destruction and are just as bad as each other. They’ve both completely lost sight of all humanity.

I have now watched several conversations like this one. Ali and Ami should both run for Office in their respective parts. You both are amazing, the ideas are right, your arguments are exact. I hope that this way of thinking can succeed, because it is the only way that ultimately be successful. Any other way, other than described by both of you, will only be a continuance of what was.
Brilliant conversation. Thank you!
And I was in tears as you were at the end. Stay safe, both of you.

I can see some sign of Israeli people to hope ending the war against Hamas in Gaza happening now, demonstrating the majority of them wish resignation of Netanyahu and early election. it can be hope even if it doesn’t mean permanent peace between Israel and Gaza, but we still have hope… and to implement permanent peace we have to figure out why Hamas was born and what the West have done to Gaza, Palestinian. We have to fix things right to Gaza, what Britain, US, etc. have done to them. That’s the only way

I would never want a peace built on Palestinian graves, either. Thank you both for doing this work and believing that our peoples do not have to perpetuate this cycle of violence forever. Palestinian children are taught about the holocaust. Maybe it was different back when Ali was a child. But UNRWA schools do teach about the holocaust & so much more. They also teach about human rights & international law. I know this because I watched an interview with the former head of UNRWA & I’ve also watched interviews with all sorts of Palestinian academics & lawyers who were taught in UNRWA schools, & they’ve said the same thing as well. By the way, why is it that Ali was the only one who talked about non-violence in this interview?

It’s not just like that. The palestinians were living next to israel in gaza and also among the israelis as citizens. But the basic tenent of islam, doing away with the non believers in islam is always presennt. For the palestinians stabbed shot,or ran the person over with a car and then the killer was paid a life stipend by abass . According to the islamic political doctrines like the quran, sharia and sunna that was the right thing to do. So no, living to gether is impossible not even a 2nd state. No one can expect to live like that, with the way israel lived with death around the corner.

Almost All what you said is good on theoretical level, only if we aren’t talking about a state that uses an occupied land as weapons labs, who doesn’t offer birth right to people who are completely disconnected from that land. We are talking about state that went far and beyond in children rights. The whole foundation of this what so called state is not acceptable.
Saying so of course it’s not acceptable to build a Palestinian nation on the bodies of innocent people. Nor deny anyone’s right to have a dignified life. But it’s hard really to imagine that the state of Israel will be held back by non violence resistance.
In all history, people tried to raise their voice but they couldn’t bare a chance against a loby that worked for decades.

This is the most nuanced, intelligent and humane conversation on this heartbreaking situation that I’ve, so far, heard. It’s been particularly heartwarming for me to listen to this, coming on the heels of being told in a Facebook Jewish Community Group to which I belong (being Jewish myself), that I am an idiot and should be placed on an antisemitism watchlist, for expressing similar views to the men in this video.
I’ve now posted this video to that group

I think there’s a lot of truth that’s said here. Both sides need to deal with their extremists.
However, there’s a big difference to a country which has an organized military system, backed by the United States, and a country that, out of desperation, literally committed an act of horrible terror in some crazy circumstances.
I mean these people literally flew into a party in Israel with self-made crappy helicopters and machine guns… which ironically were probably also supplied by the US.

“Rule over the occupied territories would have social repercussions. After a few years there would be no Jewish workers or Jewish farmers. The Arabs would be the working people and the Jews the administrators, inspectors, officials, and police—mainly secret police. A state ruling a hostile population of 1.5 to 2 million foreigners would necessarily become a secret-police state, with all that this implies for education, free speech, and democratic institutions. The corruption characteristic of every colonial regime would also prevail in the state of Israel. The administration would have to suppress Arab insurgency on the one hand and acquire Arab Quislings on the other. There is also good reason to fear that the Israel Defense Force, which has been until now a people’s army, would, as a result of being transformed into an army of occupation, degenerate, and its commanders, who will have become military governors, resemble their colleagues in other nations.Out of concern for the Jewish people and its state we have no choice but to withdraw from the territories and their population of one and a half million Arabs.” — Yeshayahu Leibowitz “The Territories” (1968)

THANK YOU! Amazing, wonderful, inspiring – And how refreshing that the focus isn’t on “two states, one state, three states, confederation” etc … but about the foundation for creating solutions that will give both peoples self-determination and peace.
– A few highlights for me:
What a beautiful observation by Ali: “The world doesn’t like Jews; the Arabs don’t like Palestinians – so all we have is each other!” Wow! This reminds me of former Pres. Rivlin’s observation that Arabs and Jews in this area are destined – not doomed – to live together. Ami was also very clear about this.
One little “criticism” of Ali’s understanding of what Jews fear: The world of Jew hatred is/was not limited to the European/Western hatred of Jews – including the Holocaust. Jews have also been persecuted and thrown out of many countries in the Middle East…
I love how Ali talked of the importance of Palestinians learning to LOVE themselves – and how he does not assume that religious beliefs about the land require wanting to kick The Others out. And how he refuses to let anyone take away his humanity by pushing him into hatred and violence – no matter what.
Finally: If third parties can contribute to solutions and incentives – great. But it is absolute not ok for third parties to pick sides, spread the conflict to their own countries, and expect that pressure is going to help the Israelis and Palestinians to find their peace and self-determination.
